Dr. Nishio claimed my symptoms stemmed from a psychiatric disorder, called me "crazy", and sent me on my way. She thereby deterred my diagnosis and treatment for years. According to my University of Rochester accredited Rheumatologist, I have: 1) Hashimoto's 2) Mixed Connective Tissue Disease 3) Fibromyalgia I'm sure Dr. Nishio is qualified to treat someone. Women with auto immune diseases are chronically disbelieved, face years of inconclusive tests and doctors who believe we are malingering or lazy. That's true statistically, given that women take an average of two years just to be diagnosed with an auto immune disease, and an average of ten years to be diagnosed with lupus, which my current doctor suspects I have. Nonetheless, it is incredibly demoralizing to be told nothing is wrong with you when the reality is very much otherwise. This is why women refuse to go to the doctor when we are blatantly ill, and this is why people die for lack of treatment. I deserved better. And so do all of you. read more

Updated review on 7/11/18. I've revised my rating and am updating my comments. I am so happy to now give 5 stars to Muir Rheumatology. It appears, to me, that since their relocation to the Treat Blvd. location, procedures have solidified and training has been completed. Two thumbs up to all. Calls are answered immediately, efficiently, and all services are delivered in a pleasant, friendly, and timely manner. Kudos to all. I'm one happy camper ... er... I mean patient. How unfortunate. I don't know where the much improved previous staff went, but the Muir replacement is in great need of customer service training. What a dreary, droll person Nicole is. Goodness, she must really dislike her job. Scratchy music plays endlessly, then a disconnect. This happened 3xs on one call. When the call was finally answered, I was met by grumpy Nicole. Thank You to Dr. Nishio - she has been so helpful in easing my pain through a difficult time these last two months. I appreciate her knowledge in so many areas, and her skill at discerning the right locations for trigger point injections. She seems to be one of the rare hold-outs against cookie-cutter evidence-based mind-numbing medical practice in her ability to think outside of the box and make a difference for people. I saw Dr Nishio twice for extreme inflation and pain in my neck and shoulders. She is supposed to be a specialist in arthritic conditions. After the second visit and seeing me in extreme pain in my extremities, she told me that there was no arthritis in my body and the inflation was untreatable. I then went to two other Neurologists... both whom have diagnosed me with extreme arthritis. When I met Dr Nishio she did not seem to have any interest in my condition, she in fact, told me that I had to pay up front and then she would get me my Medicare money. Love the Doctor. Can't stand the way the office is run. If you are fortunate enough to see Dr. Nishio you will recognize that she is amazing Rheumatologist. But you will need to wait anywhere from 4-5 months to get an appt (not as a new patient that can take up to 8 months). Recommend taking your prescriptions with you as you walk out of the office. If you leave it to the staff you will wait months to get a Rx sent to your pharmacy. If fact I'm still waiting for one since July. If you need the medication do not leave it to the staff to make sure that your prescription will be sent. Same goes for lab work. I called the office trying to see about getting the lab work done in preparation for my appt in December. I was told that I had a standing lab slip in but when I went to the lab was told that they have nothing on file so no lab work could be done. Now I will have to go to the appt, then go do the lab and then try to schedule another appt to come back. I do agree that if you can deal with the office, you will meet a truly knowledgeable doctor. read more

I was referred to Dr. Nishio Midori by my family doctor for Lupus, I called her office two times left messages, no one called me back. I was in extreme pain, so I called again and again finally got someone from her office who didn't introduce herself on the phone, I was told that She Would not accept New patients, I asked if she could give me appointment with the other doctors in that office, she said the person who makes the appointment Only Calls patients on Fridays, I gave her my name and contact information, waited all day Friday, no one called me! Again I was in pain so I called few days later, same story, as of now still waiting for the phone call!!!! I don't care if She is the best doctor in the area, this is unprofessional and unacceptable, if they ever call me I would tell them what they should do with the appointment, specially after reading the honest reviews in this page. read more

I was referred to Dr. Nishio by my orthopedic Dr who I won't mention his hame. I saw Dr. Nishio 2 times. The first time wasn't bad as I did not know her. The second visit i waited 1 hour and finally say her. The third visit i arrived on time, and waited 1 hour then was told by her nice receptionist that the dr was running 1 hour behind and that I could either wait or reschedule. I was at this time livid after leaving work losing pay, arriving to the Dr's office on time, and having to sit and wait and wait and wait. I told the staff I did not blame them for it was not their fault but that I would reschedule but I refused to see Dr. Nishio ever again. I made an appt with her colleague to which I ended up cancelling as my issue resolved itself. Dr. Nishio is constantly late, makes you wait for at least 1 hour then has you wait another 30 minutes to see her as you sit in the patient room. I have been things to do with my valuable time. I raised a stink about this entire problem to her staff and told them that Dr's have rules that if you cancel within 24 hours or less you will be charged for an office visit. So I told them that I was charging her for my lost time/pay. A week later I was contacted by her office staff only to be told that the Dr does not pay people back (to which I knew she wouldn't) but it was the fact of the matter that she makes her patients wait and wait and wait. She even told me that I should wait until I retire which is at least 10 to 12 years down the road before even considering having knee replacement surgery. Are you kidding me? Are you serious? I will never go and see her or her associates ever again. If anyone is smart they would not chose her or her colleagues as your physicians. read more

I, too, waited several weeks before getting a "new patient" appt. with Dr. Nishio. I also waited a long time while in the office before she saw me. IT WAS WELL WORTH THE WAIT! After a couple of years of experiencing severe body pain and exhaustion, while no other medical professional could get to the bottom of it, Dr. Nishio delved deeper and questioned one of my lab results that "everyone else overlooked". She is a marvelous diagnostician! She prescribed further lab tests and the results are showing the possibility of an inclination towards, or the existence of, a blood cancer. I will know shortly and even if I have the disease, will at least be able to start treatment. If I had not seen Dr. Nishio, the disease probably would not have been detected until much too late, if ever. read more

I must say I haven't gotten to the doctor yet. I think I am going to cancel because the administrative staff is completely unprofessional. I tried to get an earlier appointment and they said I needed a referral. Since my doctor is the one who told me to go to her, he was more than happy to fax them 28 pages of documentation. I called to see if I could now get an earlier appointment, due to horrible pain. The woman, who answered the phone said, " what's wrong with you?" I tried to explain. She said she never got the fax. I called my doctor back and asked him to refax the referral. He was so unhappy, to say the least. I called back to the office and told the woman that he was upset because he had sent 28 pages the day before. She said, just a minute. When she came back in 30 seconds she said it was stuck in the machine. Really? Then she said the doctor would not be in till Monday. When it becomes a full time job to get an appointment, it's time to go elsewhere! Oh, I was not called back for a week and a half with a much later appointment. Really? read more
