Great service, great work, fair price. Quickly diagnosed and repaired my dryer. Will definitely use again.

I called Midlands Appliance Service on 12/10/2024 regarding and issue with my Whirlpool Dryer. I had previously called Sears Appliance Repair (Sears Home Services) to come out and fix my Whirlpool dryer. It would not rotate or start after you hit the power and start button. Sears was very easy to schedule a call and I was surprised when you go on the internet that they were available the very next day. All seemed great. They showed up ant the technician opened the top of the dryer, hit the power/start button and hear a click from the control board. Dryer wouldn't rotate. He immediately said "The board is bad". He looked up the part and said "We don't carry the board and can't get it". My wife said "So what are you saying, we have to get a new dryer?" He just shrugged and said we could probably find it on Amazon. So we looked up the part and he said that it would work. I have an electronics background so I told him I'd order the board and put it in. I said if it didn't work I would call them back. I got the board three days later, put it in and it had the same problem. So I called them and got their voicemail..said I needed them to return. I get a voicemail response that they would be out the next day. They never showed. This went on for a whole week, one day after another...with them telling me they'd be out and then not showing. Finally after four days of this I called Midlands Appliance Service to see if they could come out. I spoke with Steven Woodlief and he said if I'd called him 3 hours earlier he could've stopped out then. I told him the problem with the dryer and he said it was crazy that they didn't check out the thermal relay or switches or anything prior to jumping on the board being bad. He explained where the thermal relay was located and told me of a YouTube video that would show me where it was. I took the front of the dryer off, found the thermal fuse and checked it for continuity. It was open. I went out and ordered the fuse the next morning for $8.16 and replaced the fuse. It's been working great ever since. So no, I did not have to use Midlands for an actual service call, but the help Steve gave me was above and beyond the call of duty. This is what a good service organization should be like. I have gone to Better Business Bureau, Comsumer Protection Agency and my bank in order to try and refund the $129 bad diagnosis and service Sears Appliance Repair gave me. They do not have a live person and no matter what you call you can only get a voicemail routine that sends you back to the beginning. They do not have a phone number, and their address is listed as Sears in the now defunct Sears building in Columbia Mall. Take heed. Never use Sears Appliance Repair, but take your business to Midalnds Appliance Service instead read more

Did not use them but customer service was excellent when I called. Helped me decide which refrigerator would be a good replacement and what the could, would and wouldn't fix. I would recommend them based on their customer interaction. read more

Our Amana French Door refrigerator was not cooling. I called Steve and he immediately answered my phone. He told me he was in the middle of an oven repair and would call me back in a hour. To my surprise, he indeed called me back and gathered all information from me. He was extremely honest and told me that it sounded like the problem that he was not specialized on (the main control board was broken). He told me that he would ask one of his competitors but also a specialists to such kind of problem. He called me back in a few hours and told me that a few things I could do it myself. And he told me if those steps could not save the refrigerator, it would not worth the money and efforts to try repairing it. I followed his suggestions and did my own diagnosis, and decided to buy a new one. I was very grateful of Steve's honesties. I know it is a very busy season for an appliance specialist. Yet Steve didn't mind to spend a lot of time to discuss with me and call others to help me - it just made me feel heartwarming. Steven responded quickly to our washing machine issue and gave us honest feedback on the cost of a potential fix without trying to make money on something he knew would only be temporary. Just got off the phone with Steven. I was assessing if my washer was busted and he was extremely helpful. I was able to send pictures and with all my info he assessed that it would need to be replaced. He was courteous and helpful saving me the cost of an assessment in person which would have been $89. He even suggested places to go to buy a new one, which brands are the best and which ones to avoid. If you don't want to be ripped off and treated right I 100% recommend them. read more

I wouldn't know about his service...I requested a service call after trying to install a broken belt on my dryer..I'm 64, widow not helpless but this proved difficult by myself..in the middle of my sentence he says he'll pass..excuse me? I don't touch anything that's been worked on..I thought he was a repairman...he fixed broke stuff..I intended to pay him for his labor and service...I merely requested a service call...I understand he can pick and choose what work he wants to do..but, I'd suggest moving on pass this one..it's a waste of time cuz who knows what other excuses he has.... read more

I recently contacted Midlands Appliance Service after my tenant said the refrigerator wasn't working at my rental property. Being several states away, I wanted to find someone in Columbia who is reputable, yet affordable and could respond quickly. I am so glad I found them on Yelp! I actually called another business and got a voicemail, but no return call. Another repair service couldn't get to it for another week. Steve at Midlands was very responsive and understood the urgency in that my tenant was going without a working refrigerator. He was able to look at it that same day and I was thrilled to hear that the fridge didn't need any major repair, or replacement. Knowing that I was out of state and unable to assess the situation in-person, a less than honest repairman could've sold me something I didn't actually need. I needed help for my college student with a dryer who is in a rental house. Steven called me back and explained to me what was going on with breaker and voltage. He even documented on the receipt stating what the issue was with the voltage for my son to pass on to the homeowner. First, my refrigerator was initially diagnosed with a bad motherboard which was apparently going to cost $250 plus labor so lets just round that to $400-$500. When we informed Steven that we replaced the motherboard the previous day....Steven then looked further and determined it was the compressor overload. At this point Steven lost all credibility because I was almost charged $400-$500 for something that wasn't actually the problem. Steven then informed us that he no longer work on compressors at all. When I called him before the visit I told him I thought it as the start relay on the compressor, if he didn't work on compressors....he should have told me this. I feel like I was cheated out of $79. If I wouldn't have done my research and looked up prices I could have been cheated out of more. Keep in mind that in this day in age we have access to Sears parts website and repairclinic website that list that parts and prices with the model number of the fridge. Other customers may not do as much research as I did, but I feel like Steven didn't know what he was doing and that I was cheated for $79. read more
