My garden salad with blackened fish was delicious, just a little pricey but it seems like everything on Washington island is expensive so it's nothing against this place. The service was okay, we had a big group so I know that is hard and it slowed things down a lot and our checks weren't right either but I can understand how different checks are tricky in that instance. I would come back!

It definitely feels like you're heading out into the middle of nowhere -- but keep going! It's worth it. This is such a cute, casual, family-owned spot right near Jackson Harbor. You order inside at the counter and then grab a table either inside or outside. We chose to sit outside, and with the beautiful view of the harbor, it was the perfect place to enjoy our soup and sandwiches. We relaxed over lunch while watching the ferries travel back and forth between Washington Island and Rock Island State Park. Kids can play, you can wander along the water, and everything just feels peaceful and unhurried -- exactly how lunch on an island should feel. If you're looking for something fancy, this isn't it. But if you want good food, fresh air, beautiful scenery and a peaceful little slice of Washington Island, Jackson Harbor Soup is absolutely worth the drive!

We selected this place for my birthday breakfast because of the vegan and gluten free menu options available. Upon arrival however, we're quite disappointed to find out the menu online was not what they had available. Thus there was only one option available that was safe for my son. What we did end up ordering was great and fresh. We made adaptations to accommodate our dietary needs and it was still delicious. My final complaint is that our waitress was off putting. It felt like we were doing everything wrong (made reservations that don't matter apparently, looked at the wrong menu online, clarified that a menu item was dairy free, etc.). She was condescending and it was quite uncomfortable to relax and enjoy. Food gets a 4 (would have been a 5 if their menu was more inclusive), service gets a 2. Landing at a 3.

Finally, on our last trip, the stars aligned and we made it in. It was soooo worth it. We had a bit of a wait, as they don't take reservations, and it is a VERY popular place. We sat at the bar and enjoyed drinks until our time came to be seated. The bar area has ample seating at the bar and there are several tables, as well. On one end of the room is a small bump out where they have a few items for sale (shirts, et). On the other end is a huge stone fireplace that actually sits in the middle of the building and separates the bar from the dining room. There are animal mounts everywhere, but not overly so. I ordered Hunherschnitzel (chicken) and my husband ordered Jagerschnitzel. Both came with sides of sauerkraut and red cabbage. For dessert, I got a slice of cheesecake. Everything was so delicious! We love German food and were hoping for the best. We got it! I see that they are closed till 2026....I hope it's to expand or remodel and not to close, because I definitely will be coming here again! 9/2025

Both were very good, and the emmentaler that came with the pretzel made it even better. For the main course I ordered the hühnerschnitzel. I ordered it with the hunter gravy on the side, but they forgot to do so--luckily, although there are mushrooms in it, it wasn't overpowering and it wasn't bad. The meal was pleasant, as was the setting. Our server was very good, attentive, and knowledgeable. We went earlier in the evening and it was not too busy. I think I'd visit again if I was looking for a place to eat in Door County.

Slow service & unapologetic staff. Skip it…read more Was seated 15+ minutes after our reservation, even though there seemed to be adequate staffing and many open tables. Food was good, bartender (ahead of being seated) was great, atmosphere was good. Service was SLOW and inattentive. There were multiple times where we waited 10-20 minutes with no food or drink in front of us. No one ever followed up for additional drink orders outside of the first. After about 1 hour & 10 minutes, I flagged down a bus boy and asked them to find out why we still hadn't gotten the main course. They said we were behind a big table and it should be about 5 minutes. 5 minutes later I flagged down my waiter and asked what was up. I was told that it was my fault for asking for our focaccia, appetizer, and main course to be spaced out. (the only options that were given were to have all items at once or spaced out) At this point I asked for a manager. The manager (owner) came out hot, acting like the soup guy from Seinfeld. He had the waiter repeat what she told to me earlier and when I tried to interject, told me to stop and listen to her. I reiterated that at this point we'd been there for over an hour after being seated (late) (also at this point it was almost and hour and a half since being seated) and that it was unacceptable to still not have been served the main course, whatever their excuse was. There were at least 3 servers, and not over 20 tables in the entire place. Instead of offering anything at all to make up for it, acknowledging any of the issues, or least of all apologizing, the owner told the waiter to "get us out of here". The waiter wound up bringing the entree in a bag and the check (including the entree) to us. I had to demand I wasn't, at all, paying for the entree in order to get it removed from the bill. (I left it on the table) The bottom line is that, the entree could've been the tastiest dish in the world, but this place doesn't deserve your patronage.
