I knocked door to door and ran sales teams for 10 years. My gut is pretty good at telling me when sales people are being slippery, leaving shit out etc.. After hearing how the workers here tried to humiliate my girlfriend by saying things like "I don't know if it's your financial situation or what that's making you say no but this is what work needs to be done" in front of customers Then trying to scare her by telling her that she can't drive away with her brakes like this. After she said no to their quote that was 300$ or so in labor.. The thing is that the old waste a customers whole day so they are so invested they have to say yes strategy might work but eventually someone is gonna take it to consumer affairs and it's not gonna be good for ya. I'd have to say there is some real shady shit going on here. The manager was decent but his employee got mad at my girlfriend when she said no to their quote and he tried humiliating and using fear tactics I described above. We ended up going to a different Midas and getting cheaper labor but wouldn't have if you guys would t have tried to be predatory. So yes, you guys lost our business because you were trying to take advantage of us. read more

Avoid this place like the plague! Had to bring my car back multiple times because they kept messing up different parts of the engine. They wasted so much of my time that I should be charging them. There is a sense of apathy here that is palpable. This probably comes from an absentee or careless owner. There are so many mechanics in San Diego, so pick anyone else. Go elsewhere for any significant repair. I highly recommend Joe Jr on Morena Blvd. I was only here for convenience, and I regret it. I feel like this establishment is dishonest at the operational level. I was misled throughout my car's three days at Midas multiple times and totally unnecessarily. I feel like when people mislead you as part of the culture and natural way of communication, it's probably going to extend to the quality of work and value. I was misled by both Olaf and Abraham, and when I spoke with the owner, I found him to be childish in his passing blame and arguing with me. The owner is new to American business culture, so possibly he is to be forgiven for that, but all the same there are good quality, honest operations in town, so no need to take the chance here. read more

Very happy here! Needed work done on my car asap. Applied for credit online, got approved and called for an appointment. Explained that I had just been approved and did not have my card yet. He said that was no problem. Got the work done and am very pleased with it. Everyone was kind and professional. When I went to get the car Sam and Jen were so awesome! Ringing up the charge without the charge card proved to be a bit challenging. They spent quite some time figuring it out but they did! A big Thank You to them for all they did. read more

I don't take my car anywhere else for repairs. Their prices are average from what I can tell, but they are up front and honest about all expenses, and they let you know what things are priority and what can wait so you don't break the bank all in one visit. I took my car in to get my power windows fixed. They discounted my diagnostic fee since I have been there a few times before, and they didn't end up charging anything else because it ended up being such an easy fix! Other repair shops might swindle you and still charge a labor fee, but these are good guys. read more

Took my car through the car wash recently I had to roll down the drivers side window in order to get the payment to go through. When I did that the window would not roll back up. Long story short I ended up taking it to Safelite to get the window replaced because my driver side window will not roll up. They explained to me that the window is missing screws... Avoid at all costs. It is years later and I am still paying the cost of choosing this "mechanic." read more

I just left Midas. I know nothing about cars and I was vocal about that (which usually places like this will take advantage of especially with women who don't know any better). I get anxiety even going to auto shops because I don't know what's going on and I don't want to get ripped off. HOWEVER Abraham and Daniel were super nice and helpful and they seriously made my day!!!! I could cry. If you're reading this and you're like me and never know where to take your car, go here!! I've previously been here before because I liked the Staff name " Abraham" he's really nice and honest but when I visited here 2 weeks ago I didn't see Abraham I believed he already quit, The person helped me her name is " SAM" I asked her how much to change my front brake pads when she checked it out in the computer she told me $699! I don't trust her so I left I know that Lady trying to ripped me off! My friend told me it's only $99 cost to change front brake pads in Pacific Beach area! Today I traded cars with my wife so that she could take my car to get a simple oil change and headlight replacement while I was at work. I told her that if she got there when they opened it would go very quickly. I will list the reasons why I will never go back to this place again even though I have been a loyal customer for over 5 years. 1. She was the very first person there and it took them almost an hour just to do the oil change. 2. They told her it was going to cost $70 to change the headlight. WTF! She texted me and told me what they quoted. I called the store and the guy told me that he would charge $25 to change the headlight. That is sexist and unethical. 3. They wanted to charge my wife $30 per wiper blade to change them. WTF! I called the place and told them to look up how much they charged to change the blades last time and they said $10 per blade. He then proceeded to tell me that the price had gone up...300% ? Insane. Their foolish antics just lost them a loyal 5 year customer and I hope my review strays you away from their nonsense as well. I've taken my car there a few times, and they are always fair with me and make it a point to show me that they care about their customers and repeat business. Seriously? Either the previous reviewers weren't at the same Midas i was at, or this is another classic example of how men and women are treated differently at mechanics. I had a coupon for an oil change and tire rotation for this place. I was willing to overlook the fact that it is damned difficult to pull into this place, and it is literally surrounded by nudie bars. SURROUNDED. Nudie bars that are decorated to look like oil change places. Ok ok, not Midas' fault. I pull in and am greeted by the attendant who seemed nice enough at first. I hand over my coupon, which says, in huge letters, "OIL CHANGE, TIRE ROTATION AND BRAKE INSPECTION - $19.99". Then the guy proceeds to argue with me for 5 minutes about how I don't need a tire rotation and seemed more interested in chatting me up than getting my car taken care of. Dude, I get that you'd like to do as little work as possible but rotate my damned tires and stop being skeezy. After making this position clear, I headed inside to wait. The coffee in the coffee pot was ice cold. When I mentioned this, I got a blank stare. Ooooookay. After about 30 minutes, I was informed that my car was all ready. Luckily, the waiting area has a full glass wall out to the garage, where I had watched my tires NOT be rotated. I had to have the manager go out and make the attendant rotate my tires. Like he'd promised to do in the first place. Like the coupon said I got for my $19.99. Lazy. Also a bit offensive - do you really think that I know so little about my car that even though I can completely see it and you, I won't notice if you don't remove my tires from the car? I mean, really. The manager/front desk guy was really apologetic and nice, but I won't be returning to this location. read more

Wonderful people here. They actually care the right oil and fluids for a Volkswagen TDI. I usually change my own but hadn't had time & came across this place on Yelp with the best reviews of any oil place in San Diego I had found. Staff friendly & helpful. They eased my paranoia by assuring for me they use the actual proper fluid for my car after telling them horror stories of having to flush my coolant system twice in a year. Will definitely recommend anyone in San Diego to come here & I will return as well. Thanks guys. read more

This experience was flat out terrible. My husband, who reviewed this pit, I mean, establishment, in 2010, asked me to take his car in for an oil change. No problem. So today I went in about 15 minutes after the store opened. I was the only customer there. One of the employees came out to greet me. I showed him the sign for the oil change and tire rotation, making my request. The man said no problem for the oil change, but he could not rotate the tires because they were "old" and "bad." Fine, I said, knowing that we needed new tires anyway. I mentioned that we needed a front light bulb replaced, and he said he would take care of it. About 15 minutes in, they started hassling me about problems with the car. First the employee working on the car, then one of the managers. They took me out to look at the air filter, the belts, the alternator, the wind shield wipers, the tires. I wanted to scream, as I had told them, "This is not my car! You'll have to speak with my husband about those things!" Finally, over an HOUR later, it was time to pay for the oil change. I asked about the light. They told me it would cost $70 to replace it. I don't know much about cars, but I know what ligh bulbs cost. Even in my own car, I paid $6 about two months ago for the same repair. Six dollars total. I was shocked. I told them no, and they shook their heads and said it was my choice. I called my husband and told him what happened. He called Midas, who immediately apologized and offered to change his light for $23. What disrespect. How was I not offered that price? I get my oil changed at Walmart, (also a tiring experience), but at least I'm not hassled and pushed around, getting told I will be charged absurd amounts for menial car parts. Six months ago I got my wipers changed at Walmart for $10; today, Midas tried to tell me it was $30 + labor. Bottom line: Don't go. read more

SpeeDee Oil Change, you have FAILED me! I printed out your coupon for the $19.99 oil change, which was supposed to cover oil and filter change, check and fill fluids, inspect belts & hoses, air filter, wipers and battery fluid, check and set tire pressure, clean front and rear windows, vacuum floorboards and rotate the tires. Because the banner hanging up in the bay announced the same price, I left the coupon sitting on the passenger seat of the truck. I arrived 11:15 AM, left keys and truck and went to try the taco shop across the street. On returning, I was advised that my oil had been changed and fluid levels were all good. I was also advised that my front tires are starting to show some wear. I signed the paperwork, paid the bill and went out to get in the truck and go only to see the tires were in the same location as when I arrived. On going back in to ask about the tire rotation, I was advised that the $19.99 special did not include the tire rotation. When I demonstrated the coupon, which highlights that tire rotation is included, the tech rolled his eyes and asked me to come back in 30 minutes, as it would take them that long to get the rotation done. It's been 30 minutes already, and I just do not have the time to wait for what was supposed to be done originally. Additionally, no mention anywhere about the condition of belts and hoses or on tire pressure. Next time, it's the place across the street that makes the same offer! read more

They would not service my car (oil change) because my driver-side window and exterior door handle did not function. Claimed it was a "fire hazard" and they could not service it. Went across the street to Synfast Oil Change and they serviced my car no problem. It may not be the fault of this particular Midas location, but the policy created a poor experience for me. read more

The name of this place is so misleading: "speedee" my butt! I pulled into this place and sat there for a good 10 minutes before driving across the street to Valvoline. I tried getting the attention of someone who worked there to ask how long the wait would be, and the guy virtually ignored me and just shrugged, like he couldn't be bothered. I guess they aren't too hungry for business. I wanted to give this place one star, but since they didn't actually service my car, and all that I experienced was the crappy customer service, I decided to be giving like Jesus and throw in an extra star. Stay away!! Honestly there are way too many other good mechanics in San Diego to use this awful place. Used my insurance tow to get my car towed here after the serpentine belt came off and was given an outrageous quote of $1200 to replace a list of things that they found "wrong" with my car. I spoke with Richard who was unprofessional and extremely condescending towards me. When trying to tow my car to a different location, he said I had to pay $15 for basically upselling me on a list of things that weren't necessary at all. I ended up taking my car to a better, local mechanic who was able to do all the things he listed for $300. I do not recommend this place. At all. read more

I had to write something about those guys! I went there today to get a car I intended to buy inspected. While we were waiting, me and the "seller" were discussing some paperwork stuff at the waiting room and during the conversation both me and the guy behind the desk had a weird feeling about the guy. He was totally trying to take advantage of me. When the "seller" left the room, the employee immediately called the manager, Scott, who came talk to me and oriented me to not accept the deal, as it seemed like the guy was just a dealer flipping a weird car on me. Because the "seller" was trying to charge me sales taxes on a apparently private owned vehicle, Scott explained to me why he could only do that if he was a dealer, or a company, and how I should proceed and check the title, the contract, the registration, etc.. he was just so genuinely honest and willing to help me. When the "seller" came back, I asked him if he was a dealer, of if he had a business license to justify the sales taxes he was trying to charge me, and he just ran away! Out of the room like he got totally busted! Scott offered to take me home (I had my car so it wasn't necessary) and obviously didn't charge me for the not completed inspection since the scammer was long gone. I swear this all looked like one of those hidden camera situations, so surreal it was. I feel so lucky those two men were there to help me and from now on, I am bringing my car there, because if they were honest and helpful with me without receiving or expecting anything in return, I am sure they will take good care of me and my car. Lovelle really took care of me and my IS250 when I needed my oil changed. He is all about making the customer happy and will go out of his way to do so. He even listened to a couple special requests that I had. I was worried that they wouldn't be able to get my car on the racks being that it's so low. But they have ramps to get low cars like Corvettes onto the oil change platform. I will definitely come back and do business with Lovelle again in the future. My car was having issues with the rear wheel making noise. I was told by another shop that I needed to replace my entire wheel bearing assembly. I brought it to Midas and talked with the owner Phil. He pulled my wheel and inspected the wheel bearing. It was perfectly fine. All I needed was an adjustment on my parking brake. Best part was he never even charged me for the service. I have brought all my vehicles gear since. Great customer service!! read more

Great experience today with this auto shop. Customer service was above and beyond. The shop went out of their way to accommodate a same day oil change and they also took care of my broken tail lights for a very low cost. Originally from Chicago, I typically used Midas for my oil changes. After a fender bender, I needed to get my license plate screwed back on and an oil change in San Diego. Not only did they put my license plate back on for free, they also checked the pressure of my tires AND were very kind to a homeless man who wandered in for some water. I would not go anywhere else in the area to have car maintenance or repairs. The staff was quick and thorough and their kindness did not go unnoticed. So the first time i took my truck here for an oil change, they tried to tell me i needed a new battery. the battery was fine. I should have taken that as I sign not to come back, but because of its proximity to work, it was convenient. The second time i brought it back was for an oil change and transmission flush. While trying to get to the transmission pan they had to move the exhaust pipes out of the way, in doing so, they broke off the bolts, then called me and said I needed to pay another $250 for them to drill out the bolts that they broke and put in new ones. I told them I don't think it is fair and good business practice to charge me an additional $250 for something that they broke in the process. They then called me back and told me that they would only charge me an additional $175 instead of the $250. At this point I just wanted my truck back before they "found" some other issue that I had to pay for. They then took the entire next day to fix my truck. It was the last priority for them as they continued to work on other people's vehicles instead of the one they broke the day before and a customer has been waiting for. I will never take any of my vehicles to this location again and will make sure anyone who asks, does not as well. read more

Got a 7am Saturday appointment after calling the day before...score! They got my car in and started work immediately. Explained everything included in my oil change service, offered tea, hot chocolate, water or coffee....and to help with the machine if I needed it (which I would have!) They showed me that I had a stripped drain plug before touching it so I knew it wasn't them; they found out the price for the part, called a parts store and had it delivered ASAP. When the ETA for the part came and went he called to ask about it. It took 2 hours, but considering the oil plug issue, and having to wait until the parts store opened at 8, it was more than acceptable. Great customer service, good work! Gary and William were great and I would definitely come back! ***For those who are super picky, I didn't get the window cleaning & vacuum that was supposed to come with the deal, but who cares.....it's not a car wash. read more
