My wife went in to get her rear break pads replaced and they claimed her rotors were pitted and damaged. They quoted $1800 for this service which is steep compared to a local shop which said $900. I took a look at the rotors myself and they were in perfectly fine shape. No damage or issues on the surface. I replaced the brakes for 36$ myself. Your upsell and scare tactics are absolutely insane and you should be ashamed of these type of business tactics. I'll NEVER use your shop. read more

They are friendly & usually reasonably priced at small repair, tires brakes, a/c recharges etc. When theres bigger jobs, they charge premium prices for parts, labor, and bake in unnecessary work. This last quote they quoted me $5100, for 6 hrs of work, $1200, in parts and who knows what else is other remaining $2500 was for...they said the would have to remove a/c lines and recharge my a/c as part of the work. So I took my car home watched a few YouTube videos, bought the parts off Amazon for $200, did the work myself in 4 hours & never had to touch my a/c lines, weren't even close to my repairs. I went in to have brake pads done and they played the whole "your rotors are too thin" card which I have heard far too many times over the years as an attempt to up-sell to a service that costs more than twice as much. I pressed him on the issue because I've done multiple brake jobs and rotor replacements myself over the years and he said he legally couldn't put pads on a vehicle if the rotors were too thin--even if I told him to. I've been searching for a law that says that and haven't been able to find one yet. I asked how thin was too thin and he said he would have to look it up but he was certain than by looking at the lip worn into my rotors, that they needed to be replaced. Had he simply said, "Hey, it looks like your rotors are too worn for us to be able to replace the pads without replacing the rotors, but we won't know for sure until we get the wheels off. Do you want me to work you up a quote for that before we get started?" But instead he didn't say any of this, he just started working on a new quote and informed me that my $200 service was now going to be over $500, and he just assumed I was going to hand over the keys and thank him for his concern for my safety. Regardless of what his company policy was, it felt like a classic "bait and switch". That's fine, I found somewhere else that would do it if I was willing to skip the lifetime warranty. I find it disingenuous when a company uses fear and your "safety" in order to leverage more profits for themselves. I prefer to be a fully informed consumer, understand the risks, and make my own decision about the trade off between your profit and my safety. I would love to be able to ask for a specific service and simply have that service done--without trying to out-think me or make me feel dumb for not buying their "safety" argument. By the way, has anyone ever heard of a catastrophic rotor failure? No because they don't explode on you, they overheat and warp. When they warp, they still work, but you will know it and then you can have them replaced. Sorry Midas, you might be great for the ignorant masses who don't know better and who rely on others to do their thinking for them, but that's not how I prefer to do business. read more

Our AC went out 20 miles outside of Salt Lake City on our way in from Troutdale. We took it in there because it was close to our hotel and they told us that the compressor was bad and part of it broke off. They said it would be $800-$1400 to fix. Couple hours later, we find out that they can't even find the parts. Then they tell us while they were down there they found our brake line was twisted and was rubbed on the back of the tire, almost all the way through. They spent four hours trying to get parts that they never updated us on until we called to ask about it. And then they couldn't even get that part so they put it back together and sent us out. It was just a horrible experience at Midas and we have visited Midas in the past and that's why I wanted to go there. If we ever do decide to go back to Salt Lake City area, we definitely will never go back to that location. Only good thing about it was they didn't charge us for anything because they didn't complete anything. Buckle up kids, we're going for a ride. This review may run a little long, but it's important to hear the whole story about my recent dealings with Midas so grab some beef jerky, sunflower seeds, and crank up the tunes 'cuz we're going for a road trip in my pickup truck. August is the magical time of year for my vehicle ownership. And by magical, of course I mean dreaded. That's when my registration comes due and it's time to get my car inspected. This year was the time for not only safety, but also emissions inspection. Since both are pretty routine operations and I've taken my truck to Midas for this in years past, I scheduled an appointment (they prefer you do that here) and on the appointed day I dropped it off and was told they'd call me with an update or when it was ready to pick up. I got a call a few hours later and was told my front thingamabobby looked like it needed to be replaced. You know, tie rods and the whatnot. Since I've been taking my truck here on and off for several years and haven't found them to be overly salesy on unneeded repairs, I told them to go ahead and replace what needed to be replaced so I could pass safety inspection. Four hundred dollars and a few hours later I got a call from Aaron saying my truck was all done being repaired, safety and emissions were done, but that their alignment machine had just broken and they couldn't perform the alignment. I could come down and pick up the truck, and come back when their machine was fixed. This was Tuesday the 30th. So, I picked up my truck (the dash and panel were cleaned - nice touch) and headed out. Immediately I noticed it was riding different. Very loose. About halfway home I approached 35mph and the tires started chirping at me. It was so far out of alignment the tires were fighting each other and every time I hit a bump the steering bounced. I made it home and knew the truck wouldn't be driveable until it was fixed. With a big event the next day with lots of stuff to haul I was less than thrilled, but a broken alignment machine is a broken alignment machine. Things break, I knew the truck was out of alignment, but they thought it would be driveable and it just wasn't. The next day my wife took her car in (August is a big month for vehicles in my house, apparently). When she reappeared back home 20 minutes later I was surprised. Apparently, their emissions tester had also broken and they couldn't perform the inspection on her car that day. Frustration grows. I spoke with Aaron again to check the status of the alignment machine and he apologized again for both the alignment and the emissions problems. The next day we tried the car again, verified the emissions machine was fixed, and as an apology for all the hassle and inconvenience Aaron performed the safety and emissions tests at no charge. Very appreciated, and the right thing to do. The next day Aaron called to update me on the status of the alignment machine. Even though the only news was that the manufacturer's rep wasn't going to make it out before the Labor Day weekend, I still appreciated the communication. He offered to let me take the truck to another Midas shop in Kearns (Kearns? Magna? I don't recall..) but since I didn't want to wrangle it out there and I was busy with other things I declined. We spoke a couple of times after Labor Day, and long story short, they called on Friday and I was able to come in that afternoon and they performed the alignment. I wasn't charged for the alignment - again, this goes a long way for my forgiveness - and the truck rides just as it should, good as new. It was a crappy situation. But Aaron and the crew made the best of it, and here's why: he gets it. He understands that repairs come and go, but that I'm a guy who's probably always going to have a car that eventually needs servicing, repairs, and inspections. If I'm charged for an emissions inspection that I had to go there twice to receive, it's probably the last time I show up. There are just too many other shops out there doing it and while we've taken out cars here for many years it's easy enough to jump ship. If I'm charged for an alignment that takes 10 days to complete, sure as shootin' I'm out of there for life. Even if it's free but I have to keep after them I'm probably going to be steamed about it. But they kept in touch and let me know what was going on. Nice work. Now, if equipment is failing left and right you still may raise an eyebrow. Hopefully it was just a terrible coincidence, but I can guarantee the next time I take my truck in I'll be calling ahead and asking if everything is clear. But I guess the point is that because of their focus on me as a human customer and not on my wallet, I *will* be calling them again. I'm willing to move cautiously ahead with Midas and hopefully we'll have nothing but smooth, open road in front of us. read more

Worst Midas by far I've been to a lot of different Midas locations, originally in the east coast, they offer very great work at a lower cost than most places. I had some questions about both services and my account, I get this man "Todd" who couldn't not possibly want to work at his job less than he did. Every question was with a smart-ass response, and when I'd ask for more specifics he would not try to help AT ALL. Actually he very much tried to steer me away from doing business. Took my truck for a routine oil change, service has always been decent here just wanted to note prices went up 30 dollars from the last time I took my truck here. No big deal however the technician who worked on my truck failed to clean residual oil off the subframe which then left a mess in my driveway later that day. I come from a family of mechanics so I have never really had to worry about being taken advantage of. I moved to Ut about a year ago and knew no one. It was nerve wracking trying to find a place to take my vehicle since I had no one to get recommendations from. I tried Midas one day because they had open availability when I needed it. I absolutely love them. Since I've been going there there has been some changes in employees which made me sad and brought up new feeling of nervousness. Finding a good car place is HARD and NOT FUN. As you'll notice, I'm clearly an expert on this subject as I just called it a 'car place'. Mechanic? Service shop? Car place. A very long while ago, an overly-friendly sales guy came to my workplace selling punch cards for a bunch of oil changes, inspection, and emission all for one low price at Midas. With a Midas location close to home AND a current need for all of those services, uncharacteristically, I purchased. Well, Midas came through. They did a great job, it was a good deal, they made me feel comfortable, they didn't try to push a bunch of extra stuff on me, and they were nice. So, that's where I've been going for all sorts of 'car stuff' ever since. If you're looking for a jiffy quick oil change it may not be for you. It's best to call ahead to see what their schedule looks like and let them know you're coming. Sometimes they're swamped, sometimes they'll get you right in. It really works best to drop your car off early and pick it up later, which may not be the most convenient but I prefer it to waiting. I would recommend them for repairs and other services as well. They have always been quick to call with the diagnosis and to explain everything very clearly. Their waiting room is fairly large, relatively un-stinky, and has a pretty good selection of reading material. Although, as I mentioned, I don't like to stick around long. So, while I'm not a 'car stuff' expert, they have never made me feel like it and that goes a long way in my book. read more

I was very impressed with my visit to Midas. My lady friend's car didn't pass inspection but unfortunately they didn't have a reason. Another business told us they narrowed it down to something having to do with the breaks, but that's all they could give me. We mad an appointment with Midas and are glad we did. They diagnosed the issue within 15 minutes and repaired it in another 10. Not only that, but they took the time to take us into the bay and SHOW us the problem. Instead of just replacing the brakes, he gave us the option to adjust them for 35 and then replace the brakes later. He then told us to call him just to let him know if it passed inspection and we'd talk about where to go from there. GREAT customer service! read more

The guy that runs the shop at this location, Aaron, knows customer service and does it right. My husband and I have taken both our cars in for maintenance and inspections, and Aaron has never tried to sugar-coat or beat around the bush. He tells us what the prices are, and lets us know if there are any discounts or deals available. He doesn't try to upsell or force us into paying for services or parts we don't really need. If only every shop was like this, I wouldn't feel the need to watch endless YouTube videos on car maintenance to make sure I know enough to detect when someone's trying to cheat me (like they did over at Jiffy Lube off Union Park and Fort Union--never going there again). I got my brakes replaced here, and they are guaranteed for life. Every time I've gotten a service here, they've done a great job, and super timely, too. One Saturday I was getting just under $500 worth of parts and service, and when I went to pay for them with my bank card, my card kept getting declined. I had more than sufficient funds in my account to pay for the services. Turned out my bank (Wells Fargo, blah), wouldn't let me do the transaction because of a daily transaction limit of $500, and another payment had gone through earlier that day which kept me from being able to pay the less-than-$500 tab on my car. The only way I could pay was in cash, which I'd have to go get. The bank was across the street, but had closed 10 minutes prior to my finding out what the problem was. Thanks for nothing, Wells Fargo. I would have to go to a different location much further away to get the cash. I told Aaron about what was going on, and he straight up let me take my car to go get cash & come back. How many people would let you do that, owing nearly $500? This shop really is the best I've been to in Utah, and we will keep coming back and getting our maintenance and repairs here as long as Aaron keeps running the show! read more

I wont go into detail about my dealings with them as I am sure they would know who posted this. Arron basically treats me like sh!t, and when I asked to speak to the owner, wow it just got worse. Rick is about the most arrogant, disrespectful and mean spirited person I have come across. My car is still broken and they took a butt load of money from me...I have plans to contact an attorney, the BBB and who ever else could help me. I always take my car to Midas on State Street. I'm there every 3,000 miles. The people there take good care of me. If they can't do the work, they refer me to those who can. I made an appointment a week in advance to have my brakes inspected. My appointment was for 9:30 am and I arrived at 9:20. The guy behind the counter tells me it's going to take a few hours to even pull my car in for the inspection due to their busy schedule and further explains there were vehicles dropped off the night before. Wait a minute, so it's going to take 2 hours to get to my car that I made an appointment a week in advance then a few more hours if the brakes need replaced because vehicles were dropped off the night before? I have been going to Midas for the past few years and each time I roll in Aaron remembers me and the crew is very polite and efficient. When I have needed repairs they have been forthright and have even shown me the problem. Recently I 'heard' not good rumbling sounds from my back tire area. My car has 225,000 so things are going to start to fall apart. I dropped it after hours and at 8:15 am the next day, Rick called to tell me that I needed struts and he was aware that the cost was going to be crucial as I am on the 'single parent budget'. He looked around and found the parts he needed for a lot less than the original going price. I had the parts, labor etc for more than a fair price when I shopped around. He also told me of things that would need repaired in the coming months but that a few of them could wait, but also told me the cost. No rush. No safety issue at this time. I am always so pleased with their consistency, personnel response and sincere customer service. They are the only place for me now when it comes to taking care of my car. read more
