I have been a customer of Midas Princess for at least six years now, but after my latest experiences, I have decided I will never return. I will also make sure that none of my friends and colleagues ever use this shop ever again. I am writing this review so that others can also think carefully before trusting their vehicles to this shop, because in my experience, when something goes wrong while a vehicle is in their care, they simply refuse to take responsibility for it. I took my car in for brake repairs and paid approximately $690. When I came back to pick it up, I immediately noticed that one of the wheel center caps was missing. I mentioned it to the front desk, and Jessie came outside. Before I had even finished explaining the situation, he confidently said, "I am 150% sure it wasn't there before." But the problem is that I know it was there. The front brakes on that wheel had been dragging, causing the wheel to get extremely hot. Before dropping the car off, I specifically checked that wheel by touching the rim to see if it was overheating. If the center cap had been missing, it would have been the very first thing I noticed. I calmly explained this to Jessie, but instead of listening, I was met with a dismissive attitude. At one point Jessie said, "I'm sick and tired of customers trying to ask me for repairs like this." That comment was incredibly insulting. He spoke to me as though I was trying to scam the shop over a wheel center cap. After repeatedly explaining my side, he rudely said, "I'll give you $20 cash." If he truly believed this was only a $20 issue, why not simply replace the missing center cap? That's all I was asking for. Why was I expected to track one down myself for something that happened while my car was in their care? So, I left the shop and told him that "you lost a regular customer today." The next day, July 29, I received a call from Jason, who told me they needed the size of the center cap so they could get a replacement for me. I went back the following day and provided them with the center cap from another wheel so they could make sure they ordered the correct size. I also clearly told them that I was selling the car on August 14, so I needed this resolved before then. After that, I followed up three times. Each time, I was told essentially the same thing: the replacement had been ordered but had not arrived yet. Because my sale date was approaching, I became increasingly concerned that this was simply being delayed until I no longer had the car. Finally, on August 13 -- the day before I was supposed to sell the car -- I went to Midas in person. Only then was I told that the center caps they had received were "not the correct size for my vehicle". However, when I checked with the Toyota dealership, the correct size was available there. Unfortunately, this isn't an isolated incident. Over the years I've experienced several broken promises and denied mistakes: - When I purchased my tires from them, I was promised lifetime seasonal tire storage. Two years later, I was told they would no longer honor that promise because of the change in city regulation. Regardless of the reason, the promise was made when I purchased the tires, yet no alternative solution or compensation was offered. - During an oil change, my steering wheel came back with a big scratch on it, and responsibility was denied. - On another visit, they insisted that one of the car wheels only had four lug nuts after servicing it. Only after I insisted they check again did they find the missing one, then dismissed it as a simple mistake. That raises a much bigger issue for me than the value of a center cap. This is a business where customers routinely leave vehicles worth tens of thousands of dollars in their care. If something goes missing or is damaged while a vehicle is being serviced and the response is simply to deny responsibility, dismiss the customer's concern, or drag out the resolution, then what recourse does the customer have? Based on my experiences over several years, I can no longer recommend this shop. read more

SCAM WARNNING!!!!!!!.......TO THE OWNERS OF MIDAS... JEFF AND ANNE HALL YOU COMPANY IS GETTING LABELLED IN EASTERN ONTAIO AS A DO NOT USE BUSINESS EVER, UNLESS YOU WANT TO GET RIPPED OFF LARGE!!!! I was recently at both your Kingston locations, only to experience a SCAM attempt at both locations to rip me off large!!!!.....People read on you will want to read the incredible unbelievable attempt to scam me out of thousands of dollars for unnecessary vehicle repairs!!!! My story begins when after I had an oil change done at the Princess Midas location, and when the following week I returned to the Gardiners Midas location to have my tires retorqued after having them rotated during my oil change. As I drove away after the torquing was done, I felt my front tires wabbling as I made either a left or right turn. Never feeling such a strange thing before, I quickly returned and spoke to Brad (Shop Manager). I explained my concerns and he recommended I have him take my vehicle inside and put it on a hoist and get a mechanic to have a better look from underneath. So I agreed. About 10 minutes later he came out to the waiting area and started explaining his findings, and that there was so much going on (all not good) that he took me into the service bay area where my vehicle was hoisted up so the mechanic inspecting my vehicle could explain to me in great detail what was going on and his suggested advice on what repairs I needed. He began with telling me that the problem was so severe that if I did not do these suggested repairs, there was a very little chance I would even make it home, thats how badly the repairs needed to be done. After this mechanic explained all his suggested repairs he directed me to go back out to the service counter and Brad could further explain all the parts and labour costs it would require to repair my vehicle. I was actually a little stunned and shocked to hear him tally it all up to be almost a total of $5000.00. I asked for a print out of this detailed estimate repair work including a break down of all the costs attached to these repairs. Yes I still have the printed out copy. I refused to agree to these repairs at this time and said I will think about it. I was thinking to myself, but never repeated to Brad, I would never agree to spending that much on a repair without at least getting a second opinion. So I took my vehicle back and drove off. Here is the unbeliveable series of events that followed once I drove away from this Midas location. As I was driving I looked down at my gear shifter and noticed I still had my vehicle in 4 wheel drive. Just to explain I live in a rural area north of Kingston and drive on dirt uneven roads all the time around where I live. That morning driving into Kingston on my way to Midas. as I was driving on the dirt roads I had my vehicle in 4 wheel drive but once I drove onto flat even roads I forgot to shift my vehicle back into 2 wheel drive, which caused my vehicle to do what I was experiencing, the strange tire wabbling when turning right or left. Once I noticed I forgot to shift back into 2 wheel drive I immdeiately did so, thinking maybe this was the reason I was having this odd situation I had never experienced before. So I tested out my theory and low and behold.... YEAH!!! ....that tire wabbling feeling magically disappeared!!!.......WOW!!!......So I immediately called Midas and spoke to Brad. I explained to him exactly what I noticed and what I did.....shifting it back into 2 wheel drive and how all of a sudden no more tire wabble, gone. He really did not have much too say.......BUSTED!!!!!........I asked him how a licensed mechanic, who I witnessed drove my vehicle into the service bay area, how he DID NOT NOTICE!!!!.....my vehicle was still in 4 wheel drive and this may be the reason that was causing the tire wabbling. He did not have much of a response, he just said the mechanic gave his diagnostic opionion and that's that......SCAMMERS!!!!!........Jeff and Anne you employ scammers BOTTOM LINE!!!!!......Lucky my spidy senses kicked in and I did not take the bait and fall for the high pressure tactic your employees use to RIP PEOPLE OFF!!!!..for completely unnecessary repairs. I went to this automotive repair shop to replace my rear latch. I purchased the part by myself, and the shop charged me $110 for the replacement. Unfortunately, the latch did not work after the repair. I returned the next day to ask them to check and resolve the issue, but they were not willing to help me, because they had already been paid. I was disappointed by the lack of support and customer service. I expected the problem to be properly fixed or at least inspected again. I've been going to Midas on Princess St for 20 years or so and these guys really are amazing. Today I went for a simple oil change and asked them to check a few things for a long road trip. The mechanic went over and above and spent at least 1 hour with me, stopping to explain various elements. In the end, my car was deemed safe and in no need for extra services. After all of that they handed me a bill with no extra fees. I was only charged for the oil change. The type of full, friendly, and thorough service I get from those guys always surprises me. They are truly great people that work there and they never try to get me to do work I don't actually need. Highly recommend. read more

In Princess branch set an appointment for me from one month ago for the tire change. For 1 month later, at 8 am. I went there. I left my car. And I asked them for a courtesy car for my daily routine if they keep my car for any reason. I have 3 kids. I have to put them school. They said there is no spare car. I saw one of their car in back of their store. I thoughtin the could that it can be broken. I expected to get my car back in one hour. But it didn't happen. They called me back at 16.50. And they told me to pick my car up in 10 minutes. They changed the 4 tires in 8.45 hours. I had purchased that program where they say buy 3 tires and get one free. As you know, Itrade-mark guesses. You can see the advertisement that shows the trade-markthought as firestone, Goodyear. But when you purchase you can't recognize which at trade mark ones. I'm part of that program. Brought my car in for some check engine light messages and left with a cracked windshield. The staff denied any involvement and said it was there before, despite the fact that the cracks emerged from the bottom of the windshield directly above the area they were working on. Went to Midas on Gardiners Road, carrying a coupon for a $29 oil change and wheel rotation, clearly marked "No appointment necessary". Clerk at Midas took my keys, noting that I'd been to that location before, and said my car would be ready in about an hour. Off I went to kill time at the neighbouring McDonald's, and looking through used books at a second-hand store across the street. Came back one hour and five minutes later, to find that my car had not been touched since I left. When I asked why, I was told I was a "walk-in" and that if I wanted my car serviced as promised I would have to make an appointment. I pointed out that the coupon I brought with me said "no appointment necessary" and that I had been told my car would be ready in an hour. Response: essentially, "sucks to be you." I asked for some sort of consideration for the hour-plus of wasted time should I return in the future. Response: No. Sucks to be you. I asked for the manager. Turns out to be an unpleasant character, last name: Craig. When I told him the story, he reprimanded me for "talking so much" and told me that if they did anything to compensate me for my time it would cut into their profit margin. Also dismissed me as a "walk-in". Demeanor: oily, arrogant, smug and stupid. Worst customer service I have ever experienced--literally. I will never return to Midas for anything, ever again, and I encourage others to avoid them like the plague. read more

Booked a "free" brake inspection appointment on Friday June 26, 2020 @ 8AM. Had a invoice of work to be performed of over $3,000. The brakes should have been covered by the warranty and had to pay another bill for brakes that are still squeaking. I spend three hours there and by staff's perspective felt that I had to have this work done. Be careful. Still have a vehicle with brakes that I do not know what they did...I do not believe anything...as the brakes did the same as I came into the shop. read more

I knew I had to have my alignment looked at. I called, they fit me in quickly and I just went. Super nice staff. The alignment guy Bob, walked me though what was going on with the car. I generally don't write reviews unless they're good, but I am so disappointed. Went to this Midas for an "express" oil change. 2.5 hours later I got to leave. The mechanic told me I needed a bunch of brake fluids replaced, and other fluids, but I declined but I needed to go as I had been waiting a while. As soon as I left I could smell oil in the cabin of the car, but figured it would burn off. I went to my regular mechanic just today, and the oil cap had been left off and the engine needed shampooing and a new oil cap ordered. The mechanic (who I've gone to for years) also checked my brakes and fluids etc., and said that *nothing* needed to be done. I feel very misled by Midas, not only because they do not do an express oil change, even though that's how it's advertised, but by the mechanic leaving the oil cap off. I imagine it was unintentional, but it's still poor service. read more

My daughter went in with air in her brake lines and wanted an oil change and a front end alignment. They not only LIED to her repeatedly about work that she did not need, they had her scared to death that her car was unsafe unless she gave them more money. They left the rear adjuster seized, didnt clean off brake fluid from drum, replace cylinder with a used one and didnt even bleed the front calipers so the car was only using one tire to stop. Front tires were not torqued properly. Now they did manage to change her oil and align her tires read more
