TWO HOURS for an oil change even with an appointment. I literally asked every 10 mins is it almost finished and their response is "we don't do quick 10 min oil changes, we do things differently here. We do a thorough inspection blah blah blah." After finally finishing the only thing they said is the breaks are good and you need a new air filter. All that wait for that great thorough diagnostic report lol. More importantly, they wanted $50 for a cabin filter and $60 for an air filter. These are $10 items. Also, while sitting there waiting, I witnessed them give crazy high estimates to 2 other customers for other work. So don't go here unless you want to wait 2 hrs for what should be a 10 min oil change and unless you want to be ripped off and charged 3 times what the work should actually cost. So done with commercial mechanics, I'm going back to a private mechanic if I can find an honest, reliable one. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. I brought my car in to Midas in Hazlet, NJ, had made an appointment, and at first they couldn't find me in the system. They finally found my scheduled appointment. I explained what I was experiencing with my car, even though I posted it in the comments when I scheduled the appointment, and the girl at the counter read it back to me with Steve standing right there. When Steve finally came out after looking at my car, to talk to me about my car, he asked me what I heard, and I showed him a picture (I never said anything about what I heard, it was about what I saw). Mind you, as I previously stated, he was standing right there when I talked to the girl at the counter. Long story short, Steve was very rude, sarcastic, and condescending. The price he wanted to charge was beyond expensive, and he claimed I needed more work than I knew I needed. If I wanted to over pay, I would have gone to the dealership in the first place. bought tires at costco. , they couldnt get lug nuts off ,, recomended midas hazlet ,,said 3 dollars per lugnut ,, went to midas ,, was quoted 10 ,, figured 20 nuts 200 bucks ,, a bit excessive but said ok ,, called a couple hours later charge 536 dollars ,, for liug nuts ????? I recently had my exhast manifold changed at the Hazlet Midas because my Manifold flange failed. Midas charged my close to $800 for the manifold that costs a maximum of $300. I was able to find a quality OEM replacement for less than $200. I was not aware they were charging so much for the part until I saw the receipt. They are preying on their customers and way overcharging. I would not recommend them. read more

Had my old changed here 6 mos ago. Had recent work done at another garage. Turns out the bottom of the motor and transmission are covered in oil. The new mechanic cleaned up the mess, tightened filter to a proper level. added oil and told me the leak was caused by Midas not propey tightening the filter. Spun it off with two fingers. Lucky it was caught in time, should not have happened. Midas is always trying to up sell you on filters and such at inflated prices or for things you don't yet need, particularly to those that do not know better. Not saying I wouldn't go back but would tell them to make sure the filter is tight and no need for new air or cabin filters which are $10 each on Amazon and good for 30k miles. read more

They just don't do good work, they charge more for labor and all the do is try to up sell you on other things. I understand the business, up selling is part of it. How about focusing on the issues I bring the car in for first. I ended up bringing my car to another shop to fix what they did and it's still not completely fixed because I don't have the money to totally fix their mistake. I would recommend these guys. About one month ago I had brake problems and was towed to AAA service center. I told them about a rattle coming from my exhaust,they told me I would need a new exhaust system from the manifold back. I took my pick up truck to Midas of Hazlet for an oil change and asked them to check my exhaust. I was told it was a loose heat plate. Midas saved me alot of money. Thank you guys at Midas. There is no job they cant do, they brought my F-150 back to life. The prices are fair, service is great, Kenan and Jimmy go above and beyond, even drove me home when I forgot my Credit Card. If possible, I would give this place 0 stars. I walked in at 8:30 in the morning and needed an oil change. The place was EMPTY. I was told by the rude and seemingly annoyed man behind the counter I needed to make an appointment and come back later. You'd figure they'd be happy to have the business, but apparently not. I never write reviews about companies, but I signed up just to do so. Had my truck towed into Midas. Stopped running condition. Steve Deblat said "we can fix your vehicle, no problem". Considering I have had them do some exhaust work in the past, I had some trust in them doing the job right. I gave it a shot. Truck delivered and I went home. Got a call the next day and Steve says "your truck needs an ignition control module (ICM) to get it running again." I asked him if he thought that would fix it, and nothing else was wrong. He said, "Yes, its gone bad, and by replacing the ICM, you'll be back up and running". I ask Steve, "how much to fix it ? " Steve says "it's $488 plus tax. We spent a couple hours diagnosing it, determined the ICM is bad, the labor fee to install the ICM, plus the part is $270.00 itself. I should have the part tomorrow, and I'll give you a call" Same day, I'm passing by the store, and I stop in. My truck is in the shop. Steve says "we found the ICM locally, and installed it, but it's not running right. Something else is wrong and we're looking into it right now. I'm almost 100% sure your distributor is bad as well. That's another $1000.00 plus labor, if you want to go forwards." While standing there in the shop bay, looking at my 25 year old truck, I tell Steve that I don't want to invest all this money into an old truck. Pull the truck out into your lot, and I'll discuss this with my wife. I asked him to put the old ICM on the front seat, and lock the truck up. Steve's tech pushes the truck out, I go in the office, and Steve says "you have to square up with what we've done so far. The ICM was bad, we changed that, and if you want us to continue let me know, or if I see the truck is gone in the morning (Saturday), I'll know your answer". I regretfully paid Steve the $500 plus he required for the work they say the truck needed. Now I'm stuck with a vehicle that I brought to them that didn't run, that I spent $500 plus with them on, and I get it back in the same non running condition I started with. I go home. Wife complains to me that I shouldn't have brought the truck there in the first place, and I explain that thought that I trusted them to do the right thing. I assumed they were telling the truth, albeit I'd never heard of two things going bad a the same time. Wife and I go to the local U-haul, pick up a tow dolly for $65, we go back to Midas, hook up my non running truck to the dolly, and tow it home. A few days pass, and I open up the hood of my non running truck. I see the new ICM, and the old one in the cab. I break out my Chiltons Repair guide, and look at the trouble shooting section. It says that a common issue with non running vehicles is a bad ignition coil. The guide gives specific testing recommendations to see if it's resistance is bad. I do those tests, which take approximately 5 minutes. Turns out that the resistance is way off, and the guide says to "replace the ignition coil". I order a $17.00 ignition coil from Amazon on my cell phone, close the hood, and go about my day. Two days pass, and I get the ignition coil from amazon. I replace the coil (takes about 1 minute to do), and turn the ignition key. Truck starts right up. Runs as smooth as the day I bought the truck 25 years earlier. Drive the truck around the neighborhood, and it runs perfect. Get back home, I decided to see if the diagnosis by Midas were correct about the ICM being bad. I remove the brand new ICM the Midas technicians installed, install my old, original unit back under the hood, and start the truck. Truck starts perfectly. It runs, again, like brand new. It's clear that the fellas at Midas did not diagnose the issue properly, as I've put over 1500 miles on the truck since that day, and no issue at all. I've been in contact with Midas's Steve Deblat on several occasions. Steve refuses to credit me my full $500 plus bill back for the work they did on the truck. He offered me a partial refund to cover the ICM that was installed and removed, but refuses to refund me the labor charge back. I've since filed a grievance with my credit card company, and I'll won't be going back there anytime soon. Can you imagine ? You bring your vehicle to be repaired by "the experts", and you wind up having to tow your vehicle out of there in the same condition is was brought to them in. The truck didn't run, but the manager wants you to pay for their time, misdiagnosing the issue?? How in the world am I responsible for paying for their inability to diagnose a non run condition of a vehicle ? Worse yet, they wanted to continue their "replace a part until it's fixed" process, while I foot the bill. That's inane. I don't think so. Beware of incompetence with your vehicles there. It's obvious that these guys are not properly trained to fix your vehicle correctly from the first time, and you'll wind up paying for their education doing so. read more

WARNING!!! DO NOT GO HERE!!! Went to get my oil change and they did not put the oil plug back all the way. The plug then popped out on my way home from work, on the Driscoll bridge in rush hour traffic. By the time I could find a place to pull over the engine seized and my car was totalled. The district manager was rude and didn't seem to care. I got a small settlement which was only a fraction of what my car was worth. It was a month long nightmare. Absolutly terrible. read more

Just terrible. Living in Hazlet for 3 years now. I take it to Midas every other oil change... OMG it takes TWO HOURS for an oil change. Waited 20 minutes just for the mechanic to stop talking to the other mechanic so he can pull my SUV in. This is NOT the first, fifth, or tenth time this has happened. Have to go elsewhere... This happens even when you drop[ it the night before, OR have an appointment. Different managers every time you go in. Sorry guys, you had too many chances... not good at all, small town. read more

Took my truck in for a problem with the RPMs not staying steady on the Garden State Pkwy. Was very clear when I dropped it off that the truck had no problems shifting and that I just drove it 35 miles from Roselle NJ. Steve called to tell me it needed a new transmission the next day. I was shocked and asked him if he was 100% sure. He said yes, his "master tech" was 100% sure it was a bad trans. Got the truck back after paying $1800 and drove it twice, then called Steve to tell him the truck was still doing the same thing. Took the truck back in and they said they couldn'see it doing what I'm talking about (after it was so obvious that they put a new trans in it). Called corporate and got a call back from a guy named Robert. Robert supposedly drove my truck (even though I got conflicting stories about when), and also said he can't see it (after bragging about his twenty-five years of experience). I have repeatedly asked for either a refund or the real problem with my truck to be fixed. They have repeatedly refused to do the right thing. Now I have a truck that is in exactly the same condition as when I dropped it off at Midas, after paying $1800. Side note, truck was also very low on oil, and they clearly didn't even check the engine oil before diagnosing a bad transmission. The "master tech" who diagnosed my bad trans is clearly about twenty years old. Don't take your vehicle here. We all make mistakes, but a good company owns up to their mistakes and does the right thing. They can neither fix my problem nor be honest about it. They continue to claim I brought it in for a slipping transmission, which I did not. How would I have even driven a truck with a slipping transmission to them? Ridiculous! They have a shorter wait time than other mechanic shops in the area for a reason. STAY AWAY! read more

This shop specializes in planned obsolesce. Do not be fooled by the lifetime guarantee. That guarantee covers only the brake pads. Rotors, other parts, and labor are not covered. Midas uses this ruse to make it appear that they are a good deal. In fact, their high labor cost and poor quality parts will keep you returning to their store on a regular basis. Take this advice; find a (reasonably) reputable local mechanic for you car's maintenance. Avoid this store (stay away from Pep-Boys too). read more

Came for an oil change and it took them 45 minutes to look at everything else in the car and ask if I want all that fixed. The oil change (2003 Camry) cost $19.99 and the filter is another $19.99. I also had an exhaust issue which they were able to fix and that cost another $104. Everything was fine except for the amount of time I feel they wasted. The employees have smoke breaks right outside the main door. That's not professional. Leo in the front counter doesn't seem like the best customer service representative around. If you need an oil change done, good for the price. Not sure if everything else is reasonably priced or if I just got money taken right out of my wallet. read more

I was wary of taking my wheels to Midas as I've heard of their poor reputation. I had new tires mounted and balanced on my wheels and one wheel was damaged. There was a large scratch down to the metal about 1/4" wide and 3/4" long on the edge of the rim (on the visible face). The man who rang me up for the service, Dave, told me he would pay for the repair. I got the rim repaired, and they still haven't reimbursed me. This is unacceptable, I was lied to and now I am short $240 for a simple mounting and balance. If they resolve this with me I will update my review but this was done in October and they are still fighting me about it. I would avoid them, all I ask for is the cost of repair for my rim and I have not received it. read more

I was actually in the lobby of another local auto repair shop and was fed up after being treated horribly. All I needed was someone to check the coolant in my car and to suggest the proper repair or maintenance that my car needed. I had an appointment, however was told it would be at least another hour before someone could look at my car. The manager also told me that I should be prepared for an expensive repair. I began reading reviews of other local repair shops and stumbled upon the great reviews of this Midas location. I called Midas from the lobby of the other repair shop and spoke with Steve Deblat, Manager. He immediately invited me to come over to his shop and said that someone would check my coolant and diagnose the problem from there. I got my keys back from the repair shop and drove over to Midas. Upon my arrival, I was greeted with a smile and told to relax and that someone would help me. I noticed that this was a busy location, however the professional and friendly demeanor of the manager permeated the entire shop. One of the mechanics was sent to my car to check the coolant. Within minutes, my car was in a service bay getting checked. I was informed that my coolant levels were fine, the radiator did not have leaks and that the hoses were good. It was suggested that I should have my coolant flushed and to do so at my convenience. The mechanic then left to return to the job that he had been working on. Manager Steve patiently explained pricing and then arranged an appointment time that worked with my schedule. Within 15 minutes of my arrival, I was on my way home and feeling totally confident in the expertise of the Midas mechanics, grateful for the kindness and professionalism of Steve Deblat and thankful that my car was finally in good hands. I feel like I just got raped. They were semi friendly but were smoking under my car while fixing it which I found odd. I went in bc my brake light came on and off in the extreme cold and wanted to check on it. I was advised my rear brakes were beat but no one would show me the pads. $628 later I feel like I got ripped off but there is nothing I can really do about it. I would suggest going somewhere else for fear that they take advantage of women shoppers. They kept trying to sell me on add ons telling me it was necessary but I'm not that stupid - I know my windshield wipers are in good order!! read more

Long wait for oil change, but I give it 4 stars since the price was really good (promo for oil change and tire rotation $19... regular is $29 which still ain't bad). Was there today to have my rear brakes checked out. The folks that worked at the place were nice, very professional. It looked as though they gave the car a very good check. I ended up needing my rear brake pads replaced, which is what I expected because I was already informed of that by the car dealership, which also said I needed the rotors resurfaced. The folks at midas today did not think I needed the rotors resurface and felt just replacing the pads would be fine, so that's what I did, soI felt like I saved on unnecessary recommendation by the dealership. Got there around 8:15 and was out of there by 9:45, so not too bad of a wait for a saturday morning. read more

Hazlet NJ Midas tried to tell me that synthetic oil was required for my car and quoted $58.00 for simple oil change. Owner's manual states that synthetic oil MAY be used as an alternative to the standard 0W-20 oil. When I presented mail insert coupon they said it was "No Good" and "This is what is needed" . I did not have car serviced here based on this bate & switch tactic. read more

Went for an oil change with free tire rotation. Was told tires where beat and not to waste time rotating even though when I put a penny into the tread it covered most of Lincolns head. After I said no just rotate them I was brought in to show me another problem that needed immediate attention. The brakes on the passenger side front tire would not allow the tire to roil easily when in neutral. I told the guy it worked fine when I parked in their lot but somehow from the parking lot to the garage it was damaged. How could that happen? The mechanic and then the manager told me they where just telling me what they found. I called the store owner and Midas corporate and never received a call back. Now the car is on its way to the dealer to find out what they did to it. read more
