I had a tire quickly losing air. I needed to be in Machias ASAP. These guys got me in, patched my tire and got me on my way in 20 minutes. No charge!! Sweet! read more

I brought my car to this Midas for a significant fluid leak and left with a diagnosis of leaking valve cover gaskets and a full slate of other work--new tires, a stabilizer bar, and a control arm. The day after pickup, the car started jerking and bucking when I accelerated. I called right away and was told nothing about the repair could explain it. I continued on into a planned trip through Canada, and the problem never went away. When I finally had the car inspected at a Midas in Halifax, it took the technicians about twenty minutes to find a transmission line so deteriorated that part of it was missing entirely. When Halifax called Ellsworth to ask about it, Ellsworth confirmed their original diagnostic also picked up low transmission fluid and a possible issue with the line--but nobody told me at the time. I ended up paying for a valve cover repair that wasn't actually the source of the leak I came in for in the first place. The transmission still slips and has issues because they didn't disclose the issue, so I may still be on the hook for $6000 to $10000 for a transmission replacement. Because the part wasn't available in Halifax for a week, I was stuck in Canada far longer than planned and had to rent a car just to keep the rest of my trip from falling apart financially. To their credit, Ellsworth Midas did agree to cover the cost of the Halifax repair once the full story came out. But they haven't taken responsibility for the rental car or the extra week of costs that came directly from not telling me what they already knew. I also reached out to Mavis corporate consumer relations for help. The responses were slow and thin on detail -- I had to keep calling back myself just to get any kind of update, rather than being kept in the loop. I'm not writing this to pile on. The actual technical work may have been fine. But finding a serious issue during a diagnostic and not disclosing it turned a routine repair into a genuinely disruptive problem for my trip, and I think anyone considering this shop should know that. read more

visiting family for Christmas. 5 hours from home. headlights stopped workin. Midas took me in promptly. Spent 1 hour to diagjose / fix lights. charged me $200. Less than 2 hours on the road, lights died. drove rest of the way holding high beam lever on. contacted them next day I was told to go to another site. all 1+ hour away. local mechanic diagnose and properly fixed in 1 hour. Voiced discontent to Midas. Multiple times told - to bad. nothing offered - nothing done. poor handling read more

Dustin in the Ellsworth location was super helpful. He test drove our car after determining that we did not need an alignment. He helped us diagnosis a separate unrelated issue. No charge! Helpful, friendly and our turn around time was under a few hours. read more

i made appointment to get an alignment and rotation. They told me that they wouldn't do an alignment because my ball joints were "fried". This diagnosis was made 300 miles after having my inspection sticker put on. 2 other service shops inspected and determined that not only were the ball joints fine but my alignment was still in spec and not needed. This place will try to scam you for un needed work, and should the work actually be needed their past work has been had to be repaired by another mechanic after it was completed. DO NOT GO HERE. read more

This Midas is so well run. They really go all out to help, even at short-notice or without an appointment. Josh helped me on the spur of the moment to take care of a small thing, but he just did it and that allowed me to continue with my day and stop worrying about my car. Lucas is an excellent service manager and that is reflected in the entire way the shop runs. Car servicing has a lot of pitfalls so having this well-run shop here in Ellsworth is a real bonus. read more

Lukas was very friendly and knowledgeable. He had to pick us up in Bar Harbor because our friend's power steering went out while we were on vacation. He offered a free estimate and transportation back and forth. Turns out the problem was under warranty so he recommended we take it to the dealer back in Boston after our vacation. He refused to even take a tip for his trouble even though he didn't do the service and drove us back and forth to Bar Harbor. Super great service! read more

We had a minor request that required someone to get under the car. We stopped in without an appointment, and asked if they could help us. It wasn't busy and it was near closing time and the manager checked with the tech and then they agreed to help us. They were both kind and respectful, and it was a very positive experience. They were generous with their time and we definitely appreciated it. I will certainly use Midas in Ellsworth for any car maintenance needs. They were great. You can know you will be treated right, and that they will handle your needs. RECOMMENDED! read more

My car developed an exhaust leak and I needed to make a trip to Vermont the next day. Lucas, a competent and intelligent service manager, got my vehicle in, explained the problem to me, and had a mechanic effect the repair. My trip was saved read more

I did not use Geno and the guys but pointed me in the right direction. I will go back when I need my cars serviced

I called the top three results for auto shops in Ellsworth and Midas was the only one that said they would be able to fix my car no problem, great first impression. Geno helped me and he was awesome, very personable. They called me to check if I was okay with the diagnostic price before any further investigation. The service was quick, thorough and reasonably priced. This is the only place I will be visiting for car service while I stay in Acadia this summer. read more

Rear brakes gone, front tires bald (which i knew) Total, $3400 Decided to go see my regular mechanic, the rust was the size of his thumb nail. Rear brakes MAY need to be replaced next year. Exhaust repair, front tires and inspection, $669. Trudi P read more

I had a rattling on the underside of my car after I pulled out a branch that had gotten stuck there. I called a half dozen Ellsworth auto repair shops to see if they could put it on a lift to check it out this afternoon. All were booked solid and couldn't look at it today, or, in many cases for a week or more. Finally I called the Ellsworth Midas location, and they said I could bring it in at 3:30 and they would check it out. I brought it in, within 5 minutes they had it on a lift and the manager reported that a heat shield had come loose and they could fix it by reattaching it with a couple of rivets. They did and 10 minutes later they finished and the car was ready to go. When I asked them what I owed, they said I owed nothing. They certainly made a future customer out of me. read more

Stopped here because I thought I was having some alignment issues with my 2016 F150. Staff was friendly and they drove the truck then looked it over for a while. They said while it did need an alignment the main issue appears to be with the electronic power steering Ford uses. They even looked up a recall Ford had for this and gave me the paper to take to Ford. Overall while they were not able to fix the issue there they seemed ho eat and have me the info I need to have Ford take care of it. read more

While on a trip visiting MDI, we found a coolant leak on our truck. The guys at Midas were nice enough to fit us in a day when they already had other vehicles to work on. They were so helpful and worked so fast. Come here for the best service from the nicest people! read more

Came to this location to get an oil change, alignment and potentially fix the air compressor. Was informed they cannot do an alignment because we needed new ball joints. Was also quoted 2800$ to fix the air compressor. Thankfully did research to discover the cost of this work is not 2800$. Was able to make our trip towing our RV to Georgia thankfully before our tires went completely balled and blew while towing. Was able to contact a local shop who inspected our truck and informed us we did not need ball joints. Just an alignment. That shop replaced our tires and aligned our tires no thanks to Midas trying to over charge and suggest a repair we didn't need. Also learned that Midas wanted to charge at least 1k$ more for the air compressor. Because of them wanting to over charge and suggest a repair we didn't need it put us and other drivers on the road in danger. We unfortunately were on a short time so we could not stay in Maine to get the work done and had to do it in Georgia. Many miles apart and many opportunities for something to go wrong. I really hope this shop will reevaluate their values and will do the work that needs done and not try to upsell and leave a customer on the road in a potentially dangerous state. As for the AC it is not a necessity so we didn't need it done but if it was that is an outrageous over charge on a repair. read more

When my son and his friends had engine trouble while on a Maine adventure (from MI), these guys went out of their way to squeeze them in the schedule as soon as they could. Super friendly and helpful, great service... didn't charge us an arm and a leg because we really had no other option. Exactly what we needed! Very grateful we found them! read more

We had a slow leak in the tire, the guy at the front helped us instantly even though they had a steady stream of people in. Put a plug in the tire and we were on our way. They saved our trip! Thanks guys :) read more

I had two great experiences here this summer. I had a question about my breaks on a Saturday morning. They checked it out found no problem; I expected a diagnostic charge but they didn't charge me and I was on my way. The second time was for a vehicle inspection on a week day they got me in and out with no delay. It was nice they didn't try to hit me up with a bunch of made up repairs just to pass inspection. A number of folks in the shop at the same time, mentioned they bring their cars in because they know they'll get an honest evaluation and only be asked to repair what needs repairing. Old fashioned service and courtesy, what a novel concept. They do book up on Saturdays, probably because of their honesty, so I would suggest scheduling an appointment if that's your only day to get repairs. Mid-week, probably you can get in as a drive up customer. read more

We've been using Midas in Ellsworth for a while now on our routine maintenance and repairs. The folks here treat us very well -- they're friendly and informative, honest about what needs attention and what can wait, accurate with estimates, and very helpful in keeping costs down. Love the coupons, too! This is our auto care center for sure. read more
