Midas on Washtneaw in Ann Arobor MI Is a THREAT To Your SAFETY & YOUR WALLETT. They are very Dishonest I took my car to Midas on 1/13/2026, Told them that I hear noises on Front Brakes, They Charged me $45 to inspect the Breaks, They gave me an estimate of $1,400, They said Master Cylinder must be Replaced and also Front breaks Rotos must be replaced. They put a lot or pressure on me to sign the contract and do the repairs, they said it takes 4 hours to complete the job. While I was waiting for my estimate, there was another customer, they gave her an estimate of $3,000 to Fix the Starter, She said she need to think about it, they put pressure on her also, They charged her $200 for Diagnostics, she left. I also decided to get second Opinion, Next Day I took my car to Bell Tire, They did break inspection for free, They told me there was Nothing Wrong with the Master Cylinder and Front Breaks. The Noise was coming from rear Breaks. The problem was with Faulty Installation of Rear Breaks which Allowed Air to get into breaks, they charged me $300 and finished the job in 30 minutes. The Breaks work great now. Midas Installed my Rear Breaks in Summer of 2025, they Charged me $2000, I took my car back twice telling them something is wrong with the break, I have to push too hard on the break and it takes a while for the car to come to a stop. They assured me everything is ok, I knew there was something wrong, I just gave up. In my pervious visits to This MIDAS, I spent aroud $6,000. I now regret not getting second Opinion. Listening to them talking yo other Customers, They never give estimates less than $1,300 and they use pressure tactics to intimidate the customers to sign the contract. I am writing to formally express my dissatisfaction with the service I received at Midas (3170 Washtenaw Ave, Ann Arbor, MI 48104) for my 2009 Toyota Camry. Initially, the only issue with my vehicle was a shaking steering wheel at speeds above 60 mph. However, after a repair at your shop last year, the problem worsened -- the brake pedal now shakes, and sometimes the entire vehicle vibrates regardless of road conditions. On July 17, 2025, I returned to Midas in hopes of resolving the issue. This repair cost me a total of $3,330.34, yet the original problem persists. According to the receipt, the following work was performed: Ignition coil replacement: $888.90 (parts) + $338.00 (labor) = $1,226.90 Ball joints (lower left and right): $379.98 (parts) + $682.76 (labor) = $1,062.74 4-wheel alignment: $139.99 (labor) Brake fluid flush: $99.00 (parts) + $60.99 (labor) = $159.99 Right outer tie rod replacement: $80.99 (parts) + $185.90 (labor) = $266.89 Additionally, I was charged $360.49 to replace the trunk cable -- $106.99 for the part and $253.50 for labor. For reference, the same part is widely available for under $20 online. I also discovered that my original Goodyear tires were replaced with a lower-quality brand, yet I was charged $266.89 for one tire. Most shops offer a full set of four tires for around $600. After paying over $3,300, I tested the car on the freeway and was disappointed to find that the steering wheel, brakes, and entire vehicle continue to shake. To make matters worse, the "Check Engine" light is now illuminated. I am deeply concerned about both the excessive charges and the apparent lack of diagnostic and repair capability. The quality of service I received is unacceptable. I believe I was overcharged and left with unresolved -- and now potentially worsened -- issues. Based on this experience, I will no longer do business with Midas and will advise others to exercise caution. read more

My first experience was fine. Went in, got work done, then left. The second time, the manager kept trying to pull cheap sales tricks on me. The quote started off at 260.00 for new tires, but suddenly, they didn't have the tires mentioned, meaning there would need to be more expensive ones. This carried on for some time, and the price kept going up until I pulled out my calculator and showed him what the correct price should be. Then, when the work was done, it turns out that he applied a warranty to just one tire, which is totally useless. Anyway, I would've given them more business if they hadn't pulled this half-assed, cheap salesman routine. Look out for what happens behind the desk. read more

Went to get oil change and my tires checked. I explicitly asked them to look at my tires because the tire pressure check light was on. They tried to upsell me a bunch of things but no mention of the condition of my tires. I get back in my car after they say they finished everything up and the check light is still on. I go back inside and the mechanic said he checked my tires but forgot to put air in them. He quickly puts a little air in each of the tires and the light turns off. Literally the next time I drive my car, I immediately see the light come on and I have a fully flat tire. Turns out I had several nails in multiple tires and the mechanic most assuredly didn't look at my tires. What could have potentially been patched is now too damaged to do so. read more

I had my vehicle in for fairly expensive repairs. While the mechanic seemed very dedicated and hard-working, they had to keep the car an extra day from what they projected. When I showed up to pay, I was disappointed to find a "shop supplies" charge of $25 added to my final bill that was not on the original invoice. I question the charge, they did not offer to delete it and I should have probably argued harder. This seems shady. I will not be back. read more

Took my EcoDiesel Jeep in for an oil change and a suspension warning, apparently they got sidetracked with the suspension issue and never changed my oil...swore up and down it was changed, charged me $99... I am a female, but I know clean oil from dirty oil, they said it was diesel synthetic oil and 'tends to be darker', ok...a week later my 'CHANGE OIL' light pops on, I call, "o it just needs to be reset because it wasn't on when you brought it in" ok I asked the man who reset it, can you check my oil, he said ok, let me go grab a rag, Billy, tells him "I saw her oil being changed" the guy pulls the dipstick, I said is the oil supposed to be that dark? he said well its diesel and synthetic, it tends to be darker. well here it is...not even 2000 miles later, my Jeep is now at the dealer, and I am looking at a $3000 exhaust filter because they are saying the oil that looks like it has never been changed, and it needs a re gen process, and it all has to do with the soot from the old oil. Wish I could give 0 stars. Went in for a standard oil change and when I went back (over an hour and a half later mind you...), they had broken my auto-start. Then, when I pointed it out...(they couldn't even tell me up front that they broke it)...they said they didn't fix auto starts and that they wouldn't cover the cost of me getting it fixed. Didn't bother offering me any sweeteners either to make the situation better. Will not return and do not recommend. read more

I called to see if I could squeeze in my car without an appointment, they were able to squeeze me and were honest with what needed replaced. It was a great experience and the owner? We have been loyal customers here for 17+ years and always had excelent service. The shop's counter person, Jenny (now gone) always remembered us by name & would helpfully explain the issues with our car, what was urgent/safety related vs. Repairs that could wait. There were multiple occasions where we came in thinking we needed work & they said we were ok & sent us away, they could easily have taken advantage... However, within the last year, since begining construction on new location behind current shop, we have been given the run around. We brought our vehicle in for the same issue several (at least 6) times & were told that various repairs would fix the issue ranging fron a $200 inertia switch repair to a $1,000+ tune up, but after sucking well over $2,000 out of us over the course of a few months they quoted us twice what another local Midas shop would charge for a repair, we ultimaty ended up not doing.... when we said we were not going to do the repair & that another Midas offered to do it for half, Billy suddenly changed his tune and wanted to offer the repair for less... too little too late. Now we need to start looking for a new shop we can trust. read more

I had a part replaced on one side of my car at a different Midas location earlier this year and needed to the same part on the other side done, so I assumed the cost would be the same. Midas confirmed my appointment over the phone as I was out of town, and their customer service was efficient and pleasant. When I arrived, they showed me an estimate for double the amount I had paid months earlier. After arguing a bit, they said they called three parts suppliers and that was the lowest price. I declined and went down the street to Tuffy, where they ordered the part immediately and charged me half the price (the same as what I had paid earlier at another Midas). My conclusion is that, at least in this instance, this shop was dishonest and quoted an inflated price in order to make bank based on my presumed lack of knowledge about part costs. Luckily for me, I knew the cost of the part. read more

I could not afford their original quote just under $700 to get my trans fluid leak fixed and my air conditioning fixed, they brought it down to $481 over the phone they said I would only be paying $481 because I asked them not to fix the air conditioning. I get home and they still charged me almost $700. Untrustworthy. My air conditioning does not work. I will be calling them when they open tomorrow to get reimbursed. Unacceptable mistake. I'm an automotive idiot. I can change a tire, drive a stick and push comes to shove, change the oil (although thankfully quickie lube places makes this skill obsolete). But when it comes to anything more, I look at the experts, stroke my chin and nod my head like I have a semblance of what's going on. Being in IT, I understand the other side of the spectrum - explaining things to people whilst they stare blankly at you. You can tell they want to feel smart but secretly feel they are being taken. This relationship works from both ends when the knowledgeable person is honest and the rube just wants things fixed - no questions asked. I try to uphold the optomistic ends of both spectrums - whichever I find myself on. That's where Midas comes in. Its less than a mile from my house, so when i need urgent car repair, its far and away the most convenient option. The rates seem reasonable, and I can walk home and wait for work to be finished. This is a plus. And to their credit, they have a great warranty on the work they do, offer clear explanations of what they do and on more than one occasion, have fixed things for free or near so when its only a trifle. But my inner cynic gets the best of me as I write this review. Every time I've gone there, my bill seems to hover right around $600. Like its the amount they know they can bilk me for without raising too many questions.. So yes, the work they've done for me over the years has been fast, professional and I've never had to go back because something 'didn't stick'. But part of me wonders what a second estimate would do for my pocketbook. The convenience has always kept me from finding out. I'll probably continue to assume the best. read more

No masks, no regard for COVID-19 precautions. I have never written a review before and have used this business for years with satisfaction but today when I dropped off my car, the receptionist and another employee were not wearing masks. There was also a customer waiting without a mask. I said to the employees, "you are not wearing masks?" and the receptionist said "I'm behind here" , gesturing to the plexiglass partition which she was not behind, making clear it was not a brief moment without her mask but standard procedure. The customer offered" I have a health condition" which is understandable and points even further to why the employees of Midas being unmasked was so unbelievable to me (even with a big sign posted on the door with Gov. Whitmer's mandate, $500 fine!). This shows no regard for healthcare workers or the Ann Arbor community in which they are a business and I will not support it. Dropped my car off to find out what was wrong with it, not realizing I should have made an appointment. They still took my car without complaint. I came back after they closed (on accident, I thought they closed at 6pm, not 5:30) to find out that not only had they figured out what was wrong with my car, but also temporarily fixed it free of charge. My car doors also don't unlock with my key so I was locked out of the car. The owner, I think a man named Billy, sent out two very nice men to unlock it for me. All free of charge. I wish I had gotten their names because they were very kind and helpful. Quality service with a smile. Will be going here again to have them fix the part that needs replacing. read more

I've gone to this particular Midas several times now as its near my office and I can walk back to get my car. The first time I went they gave my car a full inspection and spent an extended period of time time telling me about issues my car had and how soon I would need to get them fixed (most were minor). They also advised me to replace my tires ASAP for safety reasons, something a previous mechanic I had seen one month prior didn't do. Today I brought my car in for a mysterious sound coming from my rear passenger wheel. While sitting at my computer furiously googling estimated repair costs for wheel bearings and getting ready for the worst, I received a call from one of their mechanics who told me they had taken my car for a spin, heard the noise, and found it to just be a spot of rust on a backing plate. They had taken care of it for me already. When I asked them how much this would cost me, they told me it was no charge at all! I will continue to be a repeat customer and recommend people visit this particular location. The overly negative reviews I've read on Yelp and Google (after already becoming a customer) worried me a bit, but so far service has been stellar from day one. read more

I generally replace my own break pads but one week I was kind of busy so I decided to go to Midas to have them do it. Most of the time I spend about 30 to 40 bucks for a top drawer pair of break pads or 20-30 for a economy pair so I figured around 250 to 300 would be a fair price to have Midas do it - all four wheels with top drawer pads. So when they had it up on the lift, the mechanic took me into the back and showed me my breaks and said it would be at least an 850 dollar repair bill because he claimed my calipers were shot, which they were not since I know - I have been doing my own breaks since high school no problem. I almost laughed at him and had him take it off the lift and was on my merry way. So I did them myself that week 24 bucks for pads and no problems (as usual) when I was done. Last time I ever went to a Midas. For anything especially and including mufflers. It is really sad that repair centers try to pull the wool over the eyes of customers whom they assume do not know anything about cars. Here I was a guy who has been doing his own work all his life and one of the few times I offer my business to a shop, and this is the thanks I get for offering them my business. I guess that is what they mean by "The Midas Touch". No thanks Midas, I won't be back to any of your centers anywhere in the US. And it's really sad too because places who do things like this give the honest mechanics out there a bad name and is a reason why many of the auto parts biz is thriving due to lack of trust of repair shops. read more

Fast affordable alignment for my van and most recently brought a car I that I thought needed service and instead of being 'taken' the mechanic fixed a few items, checked other areas of concern for me and assured me that I did not need anything at this time and then refused to charge anything for his time! I do most of my own automotive repairs, but I have used this shop for general exhaust system repairs in the past and been satisfied with the work. The other day, while replacing the entire exhaust system on our MINI Cooper, I needed a minor tweak to the resonator pipe that requires a big, special power tool. I called Midas, and they said "sure, bring it down" despite it being an hour from closing time. Not only did they do it for me on the spot, but the manager (owner?) did it with a smile and wouldn't accept any money for his time. A really generous act, and an indication of a well-run, customer-focused operation. These guys deserve your business! read more

So, my car is running loud and my regular mechanic diagnoses the problem but doesn't have time to fix it (requires cutting/welding)...and 1.5 hour job max. I stop by this Midas around 4:30pm and speak with "Nick" who says it's getting late in the day. I offer to bring it by the next morning and show up with it at 8am. I chat with the counter person and "Nick" comes in once or twice. I think my car is being fixed. Nope. Three-and-a-half hours later my car is finally ready. read more

I went in for a simple inspection. They said it would take two hours. After three hours we called and they said we called you, which is a lie. I gave my cell and home number and they didn't call on either. I asked over the phone if the car passed inspection and she said yes. When I got there she said I can't pass your car because you are missing the fire extinguisher. So she lied to me twice! The employees are rude, one of them cursed at me. Our car broke down in Ann Arbor, our insurance called towing to have it taken somewhere else. It ended up at midas because the towing company knew them (according to the lady that answered the phone). After 10 mins looking at our car the mechanic said the engine was seized up and it would cost $3000. Had the car towed down the road.....later that day the car was fixed and running and it cost $400. Either the mechanic is inept or this was a scam. My insurance company is now investigating this issue. read more
