BEWARE: MANAGER ANIL IS A SCAM ARTIST! Sort the reviews as oldest first and you will see a pattern. In one year, I wasted over $1800 on problems with ONE car before realizing that I was being conned. The red flag that should have sent me running: My old, high mileage Toyota Camry was leaking oil, so Midas replaced my oil pan. After a few months, I noticed oil spots on my driveway again, so I went back to Midas... *RED FLAG* ANIL, THE MANAGER, SAID THAT WHOEVER REPLACED THE OIL PAN DID NOT DO IT CORRECTLY! *RED FLAG* I let him continue his "explanation" and then gently reminded him that HIS SHOP was the one that fixed this, and then he offered to fix the work for free. This is when I should have RAN, but of course my car then began to have more problems, including SHUTTING OFF while driving at a slow speed on the highway. He convinced me that it was worth it to invest a couple of thousand in repairs because Camrys tend to run for a long time. He will show you the supposed bad parts that he has pulled from your car. He will walk you under the car and point out the supposed problems to you. He will offer you a loaner car, which is extremely convenient for people who work 9-5/M-F. He told me about how he INVESTS MONEY for some of his longtime customers, as if he was trying to pitch to me. RED FLAG! Several years ago, they sent emails and text messages asking for good reviews and promising $25 discounts on a future service. RED FLAG! Of course when I first arrive, the guy tries to sell me a million issues... eventually says if I don't get an issue fixed my engine will blow up... lol. I decline of course, and just request my oil change which is why I came. Took my car in because the engine light was flashing and it was not accelerating properly I talked to Matt and let him know it's probably a misfire, he calls me at 5 and says they took it for a test drive and said it works fine now. I got the oil changed in it and they charged me 150 for a diagnostic. Anyways 10 min after I left the same problem came back while I was in the highway and had to pay a tow driver. I went in recently and worked with Mike. I just needed an oil change but I knew there were some other issues with the car and my brakes. My oil change took no time at all and when I returned, Mike told me my brakes were fine but there were some other reason I saw, heard, and felt issues. He walked me out and showed me what was wrong, explained what causes it, why it needs to be fixed, and with what level of urgency. I received what I feel was a fair estimate and I have no doubt I will return. My car started making a crazy squeal as I was driving on Lake St, so I stopped at Midas to see what was making the noise and if I should be immediately concerned. I go to Sams on Addison road for all of my car repairs, but since I was passing by Midas I figured why not get their opinion on the issue. They told me my belt tensioner was grinding against my engine block and they can replace it for $1,500. I asked him who would even consider paying $1,500 to install a part that cant cost more than $100 (turns out Advanced Auto sells it for $30). He said its labor intensive but may be able to do it for $1,300. I said no thanks, then the mechanic chimed in and said if I drive it, it will crack my engine block so I should let them do the work now instead of having to replace the engine too. I laughed and said I will risk it. I went to Sams a few weeks later and dropped the car off for an oil change and an estimate to fix the squealing. They told me it was the belt tensioner and charged me $250 to replace it. I have had work quoted from Midas in the past and it is always over 4 times what anyone else quotes. I went in for an oil change about 3 years ago and they told me my steering pump is leaking and quoted me close to $1,000 to replace it. I told them there is nothing leaking on my driveway and they said it was a slow leak. I still do not have a drop of oil on my driveway 3 years later and to my knowledge my pump has not lost a drop of oil!!! I dont know if they do good work and will never know because I dont trust them and know that they grossly overcharge for any repair they have quoted me. read more

My girlfriend has taken her car here on a number of occasions, and ALWAYS runs into trouble. I literally just got off the phone with her, and she was so upset over how they treated her she was crying. It's your standard litany of problems w/ auto repair shops, but let me highlight the consistent problems: - Failure to properly estimate repairs - Failure to notify customer if costs might go up - Failure to actually fix problems, requiring multiple trips She took her car in to get an oil change, and mentioned that she had been having trouble w/ her air conditioner. It wasn't working unless turned all the way up. They offered to go in and fix it, and she said that was fine so long as it wouldn't cost more than $250 - WHICH THEY AGREED TO. Turns out they had to special order the part for her car, and she said don't bother. Well, under the threat of "you're going to have to pay the labor anyway" she acquiesced. Well, she goes to get her car today and the bill is over $500. Oh, and they never changed the oil, and the check engine light is on the moment she pulls out of the parking lot. Nope. Never again. How does a $30 oil change turn into an $1100 estimate in just over a half an hour? Let me tell you. The first and most important step is to come to this Midas. I pulled in around 4:00 on a Friday afternoon with hopes of being in and out. I was about 1000 miles over for an oil change on my car that has just under 120,000 miles on it and wanted to take care of it before a highway drive in traffic back home to the city. I had also noticed a whirring in my power steering - nothing major, just when turning the wheel all the way to the left (like you have to do if you're making a u-turn off of Lake Street to get into the shop). The parking lot was mostly empty, and there was only one car up on the lift when I got there. They came out and were friendly, asked was I was in for, and took the car into the garage. A half an hour later, one of the employees came into the lobby and led with, "Well, there's some bad news." But of course there was! He told me that a) my oil plug was just spinning and spinning and wouldn't come out, so therefore they would have to replace the entire oil pan ($500 with labor) and b) there was a leak in my power steering pump, but they couldn't find it so would have to replace the entire pump ($600 with labor). My reaction must've given away my disbelief. "Well, how many miles is on the car?" he asked. As if mileage somehow effects the threading on an oil plug. He slid over the $1100 estimate and told me that he could, probably, trim a little off the cost if I wanted to do it right then. No thank you. Please take my car down. The next morning I took the car to my usual Jiffy Lube near my house and (surprise!) they had no difficulty with the oil change - they finished in 15 minutes and never even mentioned any difficulty with the plug. Then, on the way home, I stopped at Target and got a $4 bottle of power steering fluid, topped off the reservoir, and haven't heard any whirring since. In short, it seemed like these guys were out to take advantage of me, hoping I would just say "yes" to whatever unnecessary work they suggested. All they got from me was wasted time, but I feel truly sorry for those who are ripped off by them and don't know any better. Looking at other reviews, it seems like mine wasn't an isolated incident. god these guys are SCAM ARTISTS. I feel so stupid that we've let them take us for so much money on both of our cars. I wish I would have came to the reviews here a long time ago because there are people saying the same things that I'm finding out they did to us as well. I have had a feeling they were screwing us because EVERY SINGLE TIME we have taken our cars in for even just maintenance items like oils changes, conveniently they tell us our cars need hundreds of dollars worth of things. Now, there HAVE been times I've taken my car in for work that I've legitimately needed but my husband has a car far FAR newer than mine and much MUCH less miles and somehow he crucially needs a couple grand in work? Fishy. I never really wanted to take our cars here but they are the only place by us with weekend hours (my spouse works M-F and needs his car) but I'd rather use the autobody/mechanic place down the street from my house that we've been using for YEARS and have been very good to us. But I digress. I took my car in this week for an oil change and I knew we had a free one coming. Not only did this oil change (that I had an appointment for) take AN HOUR but surprise surprise, he's telling me my car needs all these various things AGAIN. I was not having it. I stood firm and said no, and left. I decided to take my car today to the shop I know and trust and low and behold, my shop confirmed that these guys are pretty much lying on several things they claimed I "needed". They said my Tensioner needed replaced. Not being a car gal, I have no idea how you'd even determine if that needs replaced. My shop guy says its not something you can even see from inspecting (and they fully inspected my car) and it wasn't making any noise, so no, it doesn't need replacing. So they made that one up, presumably to try to scam me out of $500 to replace that. Next they said I needed a new air filter. Well, I just recently had a new air filter put in and I know for sure you don't need a new air filter every oil change. And my shop confirmed that indeed my air filter was JUST FINE. So again, they are claiming I "need" things I didn't even need just to make money. Furthermore, I went in there last summer to get an evaluation on my tires and see what tires I needed to get replaced. They suggested that I replace two tires (at the time, the back ones) and that they would move the current front ones (that they said were ok) to the back and put the new ones in the front and do an alignment. So I get my car back from my guy today and he said that while my back (older) tires DO have ok tread, they absolutely should have been replaced eons ago because they have dry rot and are from 2009! The Midas people are supposedly the experts on this stuff so you'd think they would have recommended that I replace all four AND they didn't even align my tires when I had to go back in there to replace one of the fronts after it mysteriously got a flat that couldn't be patched (looking at the reviews here, that one also looks really familiar). So if they supposedly aligned my tires when I was there in September, why is it that my backs are ALL kinds of screwed up and my shop guy is telling me they for sure didn't align them (or maybe they did but they didn't do the right job on them). I'm absolutely SICK thinking how much of our money we gave to this place. I hope everyone who works here (including the owner) sleeps ok at night that he's scamming people every day. Now, the staff was really friendly, they got my car in and out in less than 30 minutes, and they gave me a coupon for a free oil change next time. Update part 2: I attempted to contact customer service through the link Midas attached to my review. I filled it out a out 3 months ago, and I'm still waiting to hear anything from them. Goes to show you they truly don't care about their customers. SCAM AND BEWARE... I went in to have my engine replaced. I was first promised a one year warranty on the engine. Turns out they wrote 6 months instead. Not the biggest deal. BUT THEN I picked up my car at 11 am on June 30th, which was supposed to feel like 113 degrees. I got on the highway, and at 11:40 am, my car's battery light came on. Now I have NEVER seen my car's battery light on the dashboard. I also regularly get maintenance at my local Merlin, and they never mentioned any problem with the alternator nor the battery. I pulled over to the side of the highway- dangerous in itself- and called the same Midas (Addison location). They said they will send a tow truck and take a look at it and that if it is their fault, they will cover the tow truck. I waited from 11:40 am to 1:10 pm for the tow truck in the 113 degree heat and since my car was dead, no AC. A local cop pulled over to check on me due to the heat wave and stated I was in a bad neighborhood and better off waiting in the highway rather than in town. So on the verge of passing out, tow truck finally showed up. I got back to Midas, and they had blamed it on the alternator, which according to them they hadn't touched. Therefore, they told me I am responsible for the extra $800 for the alternator and tow truck. Every fiber of me is telling me that they are responsible for my alternator because I had never had a problem before this Midas had touched my car. And also I think it's ridiculous how they think it's fair to pay the $200 for the 1.5 hour wait tow truck in dangerous weather situations. I had already contacted their customer service to complain and the BBB. Therefore, do not trust these people. They are crooks that do not care about your car nor your well-being. Evil, nasty people UPDATE: my car stalled again 3 months after these crooks touched my car. Opened the hood and the starter had loose bolts, one completely out and floating under the other parts, and wasn't contacting the engine adequately to have my car start. The person who fixed my car explained to me that most likely while the engine was replaced (from these crooks at Midas), the mechanics didn't tighten the bolts enough and dislodged the starter. I'm sure they were hoping this would happen so that I would come back and pay them more. ha. Never going back to Midas because I'm sure every time I would go, a new problem would show up. I don't have the time, patience, or cash flow to keep going back to these scammers. If you want to save your precious time and save money, don't go to Midas. It's as simple as that. read more

At the time, I didn't realize they were the ones who punctured my tire, so... I took it back, they said that it was in an area that couldn't be repaired, so had to replace the tire (which was not even 2 years old). I didn't think they were the ones who put the nail in there UNTIL.... second oil change and two days later, guess what?!?!?! The other back tire is leaking out of no where. Once, ok maybe, but twice in a matter of months right after I went in to their shop, I think NOT. I have reported them to the BBB and wish I had read the reviews prior to my first visit. I Will NEVER return. NEVER...how do these type of people sleep at night scamming consumers for hundreds of dollars?! I came in here because all of sudden there was a loud sound coming from the back of my car. Midas said they could fix it and charged me almost $1000. After I paid and drove it a while, I found out that the sound was still there. I looked at the bill and saw that they charged me over $700 for labor and only thing they changed was the wheel bearings. When I called them, he said he had set the timer and that's how long it took him to fix the wheel bearings. Do not come to this place they will over charge you! Don't even go this place. I had a horrible experience when I just changed my oil. They asked me to do Tire rotation which I agreed. Then. calibration was not set after rotation. It is stupid easy thing to do just for myself but when I asked them to do it, then he said he will charge me for $25. With all fees I paid, it should be included. So I did myself. Anyway, this management is rotten as you can see other people's review. If you would still go here, then good luck with their estimate. DO NOT GO HERE!! I took my car here the other day because I had a coupon for an oil change and tire rotation. They informed me that my transmission fluid is leaking and that it must be fixed immediately or my "power steering will go out and I will be stuck on the side of the road in need of a new transmission". I tried to get an idea of how soon "immediately" was and they informed me it was extremely urgent. I told them I am short on cash right now and asked them if I could top off the transmission fluid in the meantime and they told me that you cannot top off the transmission fluid in my "newer" car. When I got home I noticed that my tires did not appear to have been rotated and I also found it odd that I could not top off the trans fluid. I decided to get a second opinion. Upon taking my car to another place (Oil Pro on Devon Ave) I discovered that Midas had tried to take advantage of me. I was informed that the transmission leak was so slight that I would be fine for years. I mentioned how they said I couldn't top the transmission fluid off and the guy laughed and showed me how to do it myself. He also confirmed my suspicion that Midas had Not rotated my tires. I will NEVER go back to Midas again. They not only blatantly lied to me, they also failed to do a service that I paid them to do. read more

I agree to it ,but five minutes later he calls back that unfortunately my old battery was disposed already, what a coincidence. Tried to charge me $95 to change a headlight. Took it down the street to Meineke and it was $35. They also said I needed brakes. Got a second opinion and I still have 40% to 50% left. They replaced tires on my Ford Escape and a work trailer. Very competitive prices. They did some work on the Ford Escape that seems to be ok but not cheap. It's my old work truck were things went really bad. My very old but also low mile Chevy 3500 HD truck was backfiring when it was hot. I also had a power steering pump leaking. We were going to fix the ps pump ourselves and had the part. They NEVER BOTHERED to check the pump after it was installed. As soon as i picked it up it I knew it wasn't fixed. So they charged me literally triple for the part and for the labor a 2nd time. (I believe They mark up parts about 300%) That wasn't enough they hit me up for a gear box for I think $900. (Amazing they didn't notice it before) So now I'm out close to 3K on these guys and within a week my truck is still backfiring. I bring it back, telling them I need it by end of day. Follow up mid afternoon with nothing. Then they close without calling me. I pick it up the next morning unfixed. We find out later from a much more competent and honest mechanic it was a dustributor. Cost us less than $400. But that's not all. I dropped off another truck in which i declined the repair. I go to take it back and the steering wheel that 100% FOR SURE wasn't loose is now loose. They tell me it's a steering column, but never quoted me. I mean weather intentionally or not they literally BROKE SOMETHING THAT WASN'T BROKE on my truck and were ready to quote me another expensive repair. We got that fixed for under $250. Wasn't a steering column. If you need an oil change, muffler or brakes or tires this place may be ok. For any other repairs I would stay very far away. read more

Went to this Midas after other shops tried to over sell what was never needed, once we arrived at the shop, they went over the car, and offered solutions to the Brake service we needed. Since then the car has run great.We then needed all 4 shocks, and they continued as before, with both Excellent Service, Quality Repairs, and a Very Fair Price. I would highly recommend this shop, their mechanics are top notch, the owner and manager, Anil and Will, always put your concerns first. read more

What a JOKE.... Midas Shop.....this place should be named Gotcha Auto. Ripoff artists supreme! Midas Corporate should look into how this shop is hurting their reputation.I was charged $51.00 for what I found out later was a $14.00 part and an additional $30.00 labor to plug it in, this was while they were servicing front brake rotor and was fully disassembled for repair, all they had to do is plug in the the sensor. While I was waiting for my car I witnessed numerous scams and tactics that were questionable.I would avoid this establishment......just a heads up! By the way the owner has no customer skills and the personality of a wet fart......he should just stay in the back room counting his ill gotten gains. *** DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE!!**** I was over charged for repairs done to my car in April 2015. This "mechanic" charge $3500 to do repairs on my car, 119,000 miles on a Chevy Equinox. I brought the car in to give it a bumper to bumper inspection and insure the A/C was working. I was told I needed front shocks among other things that were not needed. I took my car to a different real mechanic and found that they did not replace all required parts for the repair on the shocks. Also, they did not find a fluid leak that should have been repaired, not to mention being charged more than the dealer would. Don't use this shop, they need to close the doors, as they are only out to rip off unsuspecting people. read more

Tires blew and had no chance but to get my tire installed from here as it was the closest place. They Installed 3 out of 4 tires the wrong way! Went back in to get them corrected and told them I wanted my tires fixed and realignment at no charge. 30 mins later my tires were fixed but no printout on the alignment. Asked the owner and he told me they didn't "save" it and had to redo it. Bunch of liars, they never did it. This place is a joke. I took a tire in for repair recently. They quickly brought it back and said it was fixed. I wanted to know if they tested it. At that point they did and found a bad value stem. They changed the valve stem and I paid them $35 for the job. I put the tire back on my car and by morning it was flat again. It was leaking from the valve stem. They were rude and acted put out because I wanted to make sure they did the job right. They know nothing about customer service. read more
