After our delightful first visit, my wife and I knew we had to come back to Istanbul Kebab House…read morefor a proper meal. Last week, we decided to turn our date night into something special with dinner at this Turkish gem followed by a Broadway musical, Newsies, at the Flynn Center. We made a reservation in advance, as this spot is quite popular in the evenings - especially when there's a play happening nearby. The ambiance was inviting and warm, with soft lighting and traditional Turkish decor creating a perfect setting for a romantic evening. The service was exceptional, and our server, Alexandra B., made the experience even more memorable with his attentiveness and friendly demeanor. We started with the Small Meze Platter ($16.99), an excellent choice for sharing. The platter featured haydari, hummus, babaganoush, Turkish salsa, and stuffed grape leaves, all served with soft lavash bread. For those seeking a gluten-free option, fresh-cut veggie sticks are available. Each dip and spread was bursting with flavor, making this a must-try appetizer. For the main course, I chose from the Earthenware Casseroles and ordered the Lamb Guvec ($27.99). The tender, marinated lamb pieces combined with tomato, mushroom, onion, pepper, and eggplant were served sizzling hot, and the aroma alone was irresistible. It was hearty, flavorful, and paired perfectly with the recommended 9oz glass of Vinkara red wine ($16.50). My wife selected the Chicken Adana Kebab ($22.99) from the Traditional Kebabs menu. The mildly spicy, hand-ground chicken seasoned with Turkish maraş pepper and parsley was grilled to perfection and served with Turkish rice pilav, a side of greens, house pickled red cabbage, and marinated onions. She enjoyed every bite and complemented her meal with a 9oz glass of Ancyra white wine ($16.50), which was light and refreshing. To close the evening, we indulged in a classic Turkish dessert, Baklava ($9.99). The layers of fresh phyllo, walnuts, and crushed pistachios, finished with a simple syrup, were the perfect sweet ending to our meal. Istanbul Kebab House continues to impress with its excellent food, cozy ambiance, and impeccable service. Whether it's a casual dinner or a special occasion, this restaurant is a must-visit in Burlington. We'll definitely be back again!

Every dish was excellent and our bartender/server at the bar was so kind and personable. The whole experience felt so elevated and reminded me of why I love food.

Since the moment we sat down it felt like we were being rushed out of the place, we would take a last bite (or even have a few bites left of each dish) and a server would swoop in and clear our plate literally as I'd finish scooping a bite off of it. One time I had a plate under a piece of food (food that was from a separate plate the dish was originally served on) and the waiter came over and tried clearing thins and was like "can I get that one too" as if they were desperately relying on every single plate to get back to the kitchen ASAP. Very bizarre. I never had such a poor serving experience until this last visit this past week. Additionally, portion size and cost are still pushing the limits. $4 PER PITA. Give me a break. Half of the dishes we ordered need and/or do better with a pita and you're going to charge $4 per pita. Two people, two "main dishes" (salad and chicken wings - only 6 wings) and one side dish (muhammara), and one drink each... total of $150 (including tip) seems extremely extravagantly priced. I will reiterate - food is very flavorful, fresh, comes out hot, and would recommend highly if that's all the review was based upon. Unfortunately, everything else was sub par and I'm feeling let down by what used to be a total favorite place to eat. Womp womp.

The…read moremarketplace is a pedestrian zone that spans a few blocks and is filled with shops, restaurants, and cafes. It's very pleasant to stroll along Church Street, especially in the summertime and there are plenty of benches where you can sit and people watch. Church Street Marketplace has a mixture of chain and local stores. You can find everything from used books, to outdoor gear to name brand clothing. My favorite stores at Golden Hour where you can find lots of cute gifts, Smugglers Notch Distillery where you can sample delicious vodka, gin, bourbon, and maple liqueur, and Flora & Fauna - a second floor store filled with curiosities and oddities. Unfortunately, The 10,000 Villages store that I always enjoyed visiting, the Sox Market, and the Earthbound Store that I always found beautiful clothing in have all closed. There's also a great Ben & Jerry's Scoop Shop on Church Street, several restaurants in a range of price levels, and some very comfortable cafes. Definitely a place you will want to spend some time visiting when you are in Burlington.

Alongside some of the popular restaurants, they also have iconic Vermont brand stores like Vermont Bear Factory, Vermont Flannel Shop and Ben & Jerry. We also visited a Patagonia store, a bookstore, Catamount store for apparel and gifts, and bunch of other stores. Prices are decent, some stores have sales and discounts. It appeared decently safe, though there were some homeless people around the marketplace. The street parkings need to be paid with ParkMobile app during the posted hours. There are several hotels only few minutes walk from this place. There's also a parking lot nearby that offers 2 hours of free parking.
