After finding out regular furniture movers will not move pianos I set out on my search to find someone who would. My piano used to belong to my Grandmother, so it holds a lot of sentimental value for me. After finding Michelle's I requested a quote online and received a response back within just a few hours. The price was fair so I requested the offered appointment (just under two weeks out). My delivery day came and everything went perfect! The guys who delivered it were quick, courteous, careful and friendly! They took the time to make sure it was placed exactly where I wanted it. We hired this company to move our upright piano across town to our daughter's house. The movers seemed rushed and were not as slow and careful as one would expect for piano moving specialists. They seemed to just want to get it done quickly. My first impression was that they were not at all friendly. Then I saw one of the movers scratch the bottom front surface as he tried to slide their metal dolly under the piano as the other two lifted. They moved it out fast. My daughter advised on the delivery end that they put a ding in one of her doors. We will never use this company again. read more

This USED to be a five star company. I had them tune and move pianos for myself and my family members for the last fifteen years. I had a piano I was looking to buy and move into my new home, and wanted to get a technician out to see if the broken pedal could be repaired before purchasing. I called on a Monday, requesting a Friday appointment. I was told I would get a call from the technician to schedule a time later that day. No call. I waited until end of business on Tuesday, no call. I called back Wednesday, and they had to take my information all over again as if I hadn't called on Monday. I was told I would get a call from "Amy" the technician within an hour. No call in an hour, no call that day. It's now Thursday, and I called again. This time I was told Amy would call me by noon. I asked if he, the owner, could chat with Amy, get a time from her and then personally call me back since I was having to chase them to get an answer....he told me he could not do that. I said forget it. After 15 years of doing business with someone, and after dropping the ball on me twice already you can't even bother to call me to ensure it happens? I will be happy to find someone else, and what I didn't say on the phone was leave an honest google and all my social media account reviews. Maybe the owner will value responding to that instead. read more

I had quite the experience getting my new piano from Michelle's Pianos (mostly good)! It is great when things go smoothly with a major purchase, but an even bigger testament to a company's character is how it handles the customer when things don't go as planned. Unfortunately for me, there were major delays with the new Roland LX-706 digital piano that I ordered in October 2020. I paid for the piano in full in October. By December, I still had not heard anything about an arrival date for my piano and was feeling anxious to play after having spent so much money. I asked Lotof if there was anything he could do for me as the holidays were approaching and, honestly, that's one of my favorite times to sit down and play carols, hymns, etc. He was sincerely apologetic that things were taking so long and offered me the top of the line Roland as a loaner until mine arrived. I thanked him and said that would be just fine by me. Within a few days, I had an appointment for the loaner and I got right to enjoying it! The loaner was even in the same finish as the one I ordered. This truly made my holidays bright and my family enjoyed all of the Christmas music. At least that's what I'm choosing to believe ;-) Fast forward another month and still no update on the delivery of the one I ordered. Then, in February, I got a call that mine had arrived, so I got ready to make the swap. When the delivery day came, I was surprised to find the piano under the blankets was the wrong finish! My heart sank. I was set on the polished black finish like the loaner and the charcoal finish of this new piano just wasn't going to suffice. Lotof again apologized for the mix up and let me keep the loaner until they could get me the correct one. A few days later, he made me an offer to keep the loaner that I already had in my condo permanently. I have really come to love this Roland LX-708 and he was being very generous to let me keep it at a discounted price, so I took his offer. THANK YOU! It was a bit of a roller coaster of waiting, anticipation, and some disappointing moments, but in the end Michelle's made things right for me and I can't thank them enough for that. I got a better instrument than I had planned on at a great price, and all along the way, Lotof and his delivery crew were responsive in communicating. I can't say enough nice things about my experience with Lotof. I don't know how often I'll have a need to buy another piano, but I would 100% go back to Michelle's Pianos when that time comes! read more

I'm satisfied with their piano moving business. I was able to get an appointment the next day. The movers showed up in time during the 2-hour window. They have the moving+tuning package that gives you $25 discount on the tuning. FYI, I called another mover (that a certain piano store in town uses) and their price was slightly cheaper but they couldn't move the piano till the weekend and they'd give you a 4-hour window. I went into Michelle's Piano to rent a better digital piano for my kids that have been taking lessons for a few years. However, after talking with Lotof, he made the daunting task of buying a real piano as easy as can be. With his help, I chose a beautiful Kawai K3 piano in polish mahogany finish. It had to be ordered from California as the one in their store was already sold to someone else. I wanted to have it delivered as a Christmas gift for my children. Lotof arranged for it to be delivered on Christmas Eve. It was delivered on-time and the movers called ahead as promised so my wife and I could get the kids out of the house. The movers were awesome and very careful with the piano. They kept the original shipping box as I requested. I used it to wrap the piano for Christmas. We told the kids that it was a curio cabinet for Grandma so that had no idea. When we told them to open it on Christmas morning, they were thrilled! Happy tears all around! We've had the piano for about 3 weeks now. The center pedal no longer functions correctly and I emailed Lotof about it. He answer me within a few hours and arranged for a tech to come out the following week. Fast and simple... just how I like it. Many thanks to Lotof and team at Michelle's Piano. I called Michelle's asking to purchase a piano moving board. The man who answered refused to sell me one, but said they're real easy to construct out of plywood. I told him that due to being transferred, I didn't have time or tools to construct one and asked him to make a price. (If they're so easy to construct, why not sell one of your used ones?) He refused to help out. Next, to get me off the phone, he "referred" me to another company and provided me a toll-free number. I said "Are they local?" He said "Uhhhh..... No, they're not. They're in the midwest." (So he knew they couldn't help me and was just trying to give me the bum's rush. What a charming business they run at Michelle's. Guy had a chance to (a) name his price for something he specifically said he could make easily, and (b) help a neighbor. But Michelle's is the kind of place that "passes" on an opportunity like that. read more

I'd like to give my wholehearted endorsement to Lotof and the staff at Michelle's Pianos. A few weeks ago, I realized my baby grand was having significant issues and needed to be rehabilitated. I called around to several places, and Lotof was the only person who took the time to talk to me. We discussed what was happening, and he offered to pick up the piano the next week when they were in Bend delivering pianos to another place. Before they took my piano, I went to Portland to meet Lotof and check out their rehabilitation work. Lotof took the time to show me around the studio, where I played many good (and not so good) pianos. He took the time to answer my questions, and I felt confident placing my piano in their hands. After they assessed my piano, Lotof called me and was very honest about the situation. We discussed options, and he was able to work with my fiscal situation. After much deliberation (and a lot of options) I decided my best option was to trade in my baby grand on a new upright that had better action, better tone quality, and was something that would support me and my family for years to come. Lotof took the time to listen to my personal situation, and appreciate my background when making recommendations. I felt like he cared about me as a person and wanted to do what he could to support me and my family. He's a musician, and that shows in how he fits the piano to the person. Sonata for grand piano, in 3 movements. Mvt 1: Michelle's Piano Company. Honestly, I don't remember the salesguy's name, but his card said sales manager. I told him what I was looking for, and he showed me several pianos that were not what I wanted. I narrowed it down to two pianos that I did like. I asked him about the history of this 1923 Steinway I was eyeing. He said he didn't know. I told him it would be nice to know at least what repairs had been done, and how well they were done, since it was (at one point) also a player piano. There was a 1978 Yamaha C series that felt and sounded, well, better than the average Yamaha. So I was pretty interested in that one, too. I stayed about an hour to play both pianos. The sales guy didn't have much to say to me. I found the space to be really loud and it was hard to imagine what my piano would sound like, so that was another minus to me. There was another customer there, with another salesguy that stayed close and answered every question. This second salesguy also was trying to out-play me with volume, so I actually had to get up and walk away at one point. It was like we were battling for space. I said to my salesguy that it was hard to hear myself, with another salesguy there banging away chords to show off overtones (?). I was offered nothing but a "yeah." So I stood around awkwardly, until the other customer was finished. I felt no one was interested in doing business with me. When I left, I reiterated I was interested in the history of that Steinway, and also liked the Yamaha, and was ready to make a decision within the next few days. A dream customer for a salesguy, right? I guess not. He's didn't even ask for my contact info, I had to offer to give him my number and ask for his card. He never followed up with me. Mvt 2: Portland Piano Company. Ron asked me what I was looking for and I described the quality and price range we wanted. He steered us to a few pianos, and I really took to one: a 1937 Knabe. Ron was pleasant to work with. He put the piano on reserve and offered to have the technician tune and adjust it the next morning. He called when it was ready, and then reserved a private space for me to play the freshly tuned contender as long as I wanted. Mvt 3: I was going to shop around at Classic Pianos, but I was already smitten with the Knabe at Portland Piano Co. We finished up the easy financing process and discovered the piano was signed and had an interesting history, to boot. Owner, Mitch, also had lots of information on the past owner, which I appreciated. Delivery was quick and easy. I've been enjoying my new piano! I would say selection, service, and salesfloor at Michelle's was a losing trio. read more

My wife and I were in the market for a used piano and actually went to all three of Portland's local piano businesses. From the moment we walked in to Michelle's to the moment our "new" baby grand was delivered, the service was fantastic. What I loved about their service is that they didn't care whether I was purchasing a 1908 Baldwin or a 2009 Steinway, they just wanted us to find the right piano for us and not try to sell us some expensive over-priced item, which I cannot say for the other two places that we visited before we went to Michelle's. One of the more popular stores in town wants you to schedule an appointment before you can even get in to see their pianos. Their doors are basically locked to walk-in customers. At Michelle's, you can walk right in, try out every single piano in their store and not worry about taking up the saleman's valuable time. They don't care how much time you take, they just want you to buy a piano that you will be happy with in the long-term. I was actually in there on three separate occasions to try out pianos before I finally chose the one I wanted. Lotof and Kim go above and beyond in their sales approach and try their best to earn your business and make sure you are happy. Within two days of being in their store, I had a phone call asking if there was anything else they could do to earn my business. I didn't hear from the other places in town until after two weeks! It seemed to me that once the other stores realized I wasn't going to buy a 20k piano, my business was no longer a priority to them. At Michelle's, I immediately felt at ease and there was no pressure to buy anything. The day after our delivery, I received a phone call from Michelle's just making sure everything was satisfactory. These guys are the best and really do care about your needs, regardless of your income level or how much you want to spend. If you are in the market for a piano, go to Michelle's first! Older gentleman was extremely condescending and rude to me while trying to hear some of the pianos they have on the floor. Asking for quiet while working in a Piano store is one way to ensure you lose customers. I was made to feel unwelcome, and basically told to screw off by the tone of the gentleman's voice. I would not recommend this place at all due to the extremely rude older person they have working there. I arranged for Michelle's Piano to come a take my piano out for storage while our apartment was being repainted and re-carpeted. The three well-trained movers who came a) called ahead to confirm and arrived on time; b) removed the legs and pedal mechanism with no unnecessary 'banging'; c) wrapped my 50 year-old piano and placed it correctly on a dolly with the care it deserved; and d) loaded it on the truck carefully and efficiently. At first we were very pleased with their service. We called to have them pick up our piano and move it to our new house outside of Portland. They came when scheduled, although a bit late, and stored the piano for a few weeks while we moved and finished the house side of things. I called and told them our new house was ready and they said they would call us in 2-3 weeks to schedule a drop off. We didn't hear from them for months. For the next 2 years the same cycle ensued: We would call to check in, be told 2-3 weeks, then never hear from them Finally, the owner called up asking what was going on with our piano. He acted like he didn't know why our piano was in storage, and what was going on. He gave me the same spiel after what I told him (2-3 weeks), then disappeared again. Finally 6 weeks later, he calls checking in again, as if the first conversation never happened. I explained again, and stated they would bring it in 2-3 weeks. I expressed frustration and he explained they would not charge us for the 2 years of storage, they would clean up the piano and tune it, then would only charge half price for moving. A week later he called to say they would move it to our house 2 days later and would charge us $595. Needless to say I have not been happy with their service, or the fact that we have had to do multiple things to get them to finally deliver the piano,. Not to mention they are still charging us a lot for delivery. They deliver in 2 days. We will see how the piano is once they deliver it. read more

Fantastic! We purchased a used Kawai grand for our aspiring daughter at Michelle's. I could not be happier. Park and Kim literally bent over backwards to make the deal work for us. The piano we ended up purchasing was fully detailed and tuned prior to delivery. When the delivery day came, two trucks and Park, the salesman showed up at our house! It took about 30 minutes to move the old piano out and the new one in and set it up. Not a scratch. Park made sure everything was just so and played the piano to ensure it was still in tune. Wow! Talk about personal service. It's been about two weeks and the piano is settling in nicely. Park called to arrange for our free in home tuning which should take place in another two weeks. Lotof has the best piano store in town! The piano movers have always been on time and take care of your piano as if it was their own. They have moved my piano twice and my grandmother's once. I teach piano and it is important that my instrument remains in the same condition before and after the move. I would have to say they went above and beyond. If you need to sell your piano, I highly recommend Michelles. They know what they are doing. In mid 2012, I had to sell my Petrof piano. Of all the music stores I called, only Michelles gave me hope of selling my piano at a decent price. Lotoff let me know that they had been a Petrof dealer. He made it clear that few people were acquainted with the brand, but if I was willing to be patient, they could sell it for a decent price. They had It picked up by a piano mover . Finally in January 2014 it was sold. I doubt that I could have gotten anything close to my net after comissions anywhere else. If you need to sell a classic high quality piano, Michelles is the place to trust. read more

DONT go here. This has to be the worst piano shop I have ever dealt with. I have lived in many countries and dealt with many moves and Lotof is by far my worst experience. I bought a grand from him and he was desperately trying to convince me that it was a great price, which it clearly was not, but I had fallen in love with it. He is such a crook for money, one of the worst I have ever met. The movers managed to damage it when it was moved in the house. I then tried to move it to a new house and he cancelled on me 2 days before the move, no explanation/apology, clearly not even worth his notice as he reckoned that no more money was to be got out of me. He also sold a used grand to my friend that was not holding its tune for longer than a week and developed a serious problem with the bass sounds. He did not own up to anything, did not pay for any tuning and would not agree to replace it. He then tried to convince her that it was a super deal to change to an upright, again clearly just focusing on his profit but my friend was so desperate to get a piano that she could play with and so tired of having to chase him up that she finally agreed. Lotof is a text book definition of crook, not honest, lying straight in your face and he will try everything to make money out of you. read more
