He told me it wouldn't be perfect since it is a very affordable bass and that I could purchase a full set up, but that it'd probably be a better investment to put that cost toward an instrument upgrade down the line instead. After a few minutes of adjustments, I was offered a cable to hook up to one of the in store amps to try it out. SO much of an improvement! I wasn't even charged for the service. I wanted to look at gig bags afterward but noticed they seemed to all be in an employee only area. A staff member almost immediately noticed me and showed me their options. When I said I'd do some more shopping around and would keep theirs in mind, there was absolutely 0 pressure to try to make a sale. The customer service was fantastic and felt very genuine--no pushing to make a sale or upsell something I didn't really need. Especially as a beginner who wouldn't necessarily know better, it's so valuable to feel like the person helping you actually cares about your best interest as opposed to just making a sale. What was a little surprise as a parent was the cost of participation. If you don't have a trumpet or clarinet lying around, you need to rent one and the monthly fee is quite high. Our school recommends Wally's in Oregon City and they visited our school for the rental process. I made follow-up trips to their store to pick up accessories. Unfortunately they didn't have everything we needed in stock and I was looking for pretty basic items. Wally's qualifies as an O.C. institution since they've been in business since 1947. The building and interior are quite worn, but I loved the old time murals. I'll probably be doing business with them for at least the next five or six years, so hopefully my rating will improve with time.

They also rebuilt an old touring guitar for me; '83 Gibson SG Firebrand. I beat the piss out of this guitar since 1985 when I bought it. It needed a rewire, pick guard, fret level, new bridge and tailpiece, clearcoat revive and a bunch of other things. This guitar is now back at the top of my rotation. Not only did they sort out the only sentimental guitar in my collection, but having them do a ground up resto job on it, it plays better than most of Strats, Teles and other Gibsons (some of which I paid over $3k for!).
