I went to Michaels, Fargo, Nd, on 10-3-17, to use a 50% off coupon. I needed 5 skeins of yarn for a project. When I went to the register, I was told that I could only use the 50% off coupon on one skein of yarn per day and that I would have to come in everyday for the next four days to get the discount on my yarn. This seems ridiculous to me. I could buy a picture frame for 50% off and save $20.00 in a day. But to buy yarn and use the coupon, I can only save $2.25 in a day. So. Stupid.
I am doing projects to sell on Etsy to help supplement my family's income, but to make any money on my projects, I need to get the yarn at a discounted price. I noticed on the Michaels website, the yarn I needed for my next big project was $4.00/skein with a 20% total purchase coupon and free shipping, available for a few days and I needed 25 skeins of yarn. Doing the math, it amounted to about 40% off per skein. When I went to the store the next day to use my 50% off coupon, I noticed that the yarn I needed was still 40% on sale, so I decided to buy it at my local store instead of on-line, because both were 40% off. Unfortunately, I didn't notice, until the next day, that the store had actually charged me $4.00 per skein, which amounted to just over 30% off. I went back to the store with my receipt to ask for the additional discount. When I spoke to the manager, he said that there was no sign on the yarn rack the previous day. (Basically, calling me a liar.) and he checked the Michael's website and saw NO 20% off coupon on-line (Again, basically calling me a liar.) I got so angry. I was so frustrated. He called another manager over and she said she would check the aisle for the sign. When she came back, she said that there was no 40% off sign on this yarn. I said if they would not honor the sign I saw the previous day, I would return all of it and order it on-line. She said she would give me the discount, but by this time, I was so angry because this male manager was so impolite and belittling to me in front of other customers, basically calling me a liar.
I have been a loyal Michael's customer for years, but I do not intend to buy there anymore. It's not so much the discount, but the way I was treated, especially in front of other customers in line. It makes me angry and disappointed with the customer service at Michaels. This is not what I expected at a company like Michaels. read more
