Devin provided excellent costumer service! He even took my tree out to my car in the pouring rain.

Wow wow wow!!! Was passing through Huntsville and found this amazing store! Nina, the owner, is a…read moredynamo! She loves yarn and it shows. She is super brilliant and was an engineer in a former life. She is so knowledgeable about yarn, the different types, the animal/chemical composition and processes used, etc. The selection of different types of yarn and various brands was outstanding. Nina also found a way to connect with everyone in the store, even a shy little girl there with her Mom. Nina gave her some yarn to have to play with. I will be making this a regular stop when I'm in Huntsville. It gets my highest recommendation.

She asked me why would I do that, as in have several children? Honestly, it was one of the most uncomfortable, antagonistic exchanges I've had in a very long time, as she was very negative and aggressive. She insulted my life choices and pointed to the fact that the size of my family was a mistake. She kept saying that human beings were just human beings... or something to that effect. She was unapologetic. I literally backed out of the store, as she wasn't relenting. I want to offer full caution, as this was an exchange I didn't cause or understand; I came in as a customer, and she initiated a very strange, personal, opinionated assault. I suppose if you're an adult looking for something for yourself, you would be safe? Just don't mention kids.

Patches and Stitches is a classic quilt shop for a town the size of Huntsville. It is neither the…read morelargest nor the smallest quilt fabric store I have ever been in, but it has a niche, caters to its customers, and serves them well. They have a good Civil War reproduction fabric area, and they usually have a pretty decent 1930s-repro area, too. Much of the store is devoted to classic fabrics: blenders, overall prints, batiks. They have a small selection of wide backing fabrics. They also have a lot of cross-stitching materials, which take up half the store. I know nothing of cross-stitching, so someone else should speak about that part of their merchandise. Pros: they've got a little bit of everything. Tools, stencils, fat quarters, thread, fabric. Cons: they've only got a little bit of everything. They're not going to carry specific designers or get in the designer du jour you're craving. If your tastes run to Amy Butler, Anna Maria Horner, Denyse Schmidt etc., they are not going to have your fabrics -- you will need to look outside for them. Good, reputable basics, though? They've got them, and the fabrics from the bigger companies are the higher-quality versions that only dedicated quilt shops carry. You'll pay more, but you'll get the GOOD stuff. They do have a person who takes in longarm quilting projects (for a fee, obviously) so if you're looking for a quilter, they can point you to one. Sales are rare, maybe once or twice a year. They announce it to their mailing list first. Typically it's a good discount but purchases have a 1/2-yard minimum to get the discount, so be prepared. They have classes, but I've never taken one. They don't have a ton of thread, which is disappointing to me. My guess is that there's just not much of a market for it. It's a good shop. I try to make as many purchases there as possible, to help keep them in business, but I recognize there are some things they aren't going to carry and will never carry, so I get those elsewhere.

If you buy your yarn, start and finish your project before the end of the month, then you get entered into a $100 gift card drawing. BIG EDIT to this. I am more than halfway through my sweater so I called them to see if I finished the item how I let them know. The owner told me she has to SEE IT?!? Wow. May just have to hop on a plane again ? :) I got taken for a ride and didn't even know it. The person helping me, Donna, did not say this and she knew I was from out of state. Guess I wish Donna was the owner. She was super nice!!! To help motivate you to join, they have Malibrigo, Marisol and needle/hook sets at 25% off! For this KAL or CAL your project needs to be a sweater, shawl or advent project of your choice. Well I jumped in and looked through my sweater patterns and found a cardigan and some Marisol alpaca. I verified cardigans are valid sweaters. Had to get a needle and a bunch of other accessories, including a container to put them in. Bam! Did the swatch that night, and now I am off to the races. Doubt I will finish it by the end of the month, but I did take on Andrea Mowry's make shorties over Thanksgiving weekend and surprised myself and completed: them. Donna was great with helping all of my goodies together. Another person helped too--asked her fiber substitution questions and she wound a couple of skeins of my yarn so I could get going. Bottom line this place is a great community yarn store that brought lots of joy and will continue to do so for a while. Check em out if you haven't yet. If you go soon you too may jump into their Christmas in July knit along or crochet along! But be sure you know you have to show your finished product! Digital pics are apparently not sufficient.

They had some really nice pens with a variety of widths, making them smoother and/or heavier. In addition to the pen selection they had all sorts of paints and associated brushes and anything you may need to kick your next art project into gear. Staff was friendly and they had quite a few people in here checking out what kind of supplies they had. Store is organized nicely and had a good flow (like items were together). Good spot to check out if if you find yourself at Lowe Mill Art & Entertainment plaza. I'd recommend and we'd come back if we are in this area again.

They have a variety of professional art supplies, and the lady that was running it was kind, patient, and has a heart for inspiring artistic youth. They had "exactly" what my daughter was looking for, and I would much prefer to buy local than to support Amazon and get let down again when the package doesn't arrive the day they say it will. We were also encouraged by this store's Christmas project. They challenge patrons to take a paper bag and decorate it. They're having a fun time judging them, and will use them to hand out gifts collected for those in need. Places such as this serve as a reminder of how important brick and mortar stores are. Very refreshing and we'll be back here soon...with a decorated paper sack and a gift or two from their list. This gets a deserved 5 stars from me.
