I love me some Michaels !! But this location customer service is terrible has to improve as soon as possible

I came to this Michael's as a last resort for a scrapbook and supplies. I was pleasantly surprised with the selection compared to the location on Bissonnett as well as Hobby Lobby. This location also felt more spacious and not so cluttery. After I picked out my scrapbook, I was roaming around for markers and glue. An associate - Rashel, asked me if I needed help and pointed me in the right direction. The customer service was very friendly. My cashier was another associate -Yessenia but she was also nice. The prices are expensive, but to be expected. They do always have coupons though, I had a decent savings! read more

They got a lot. And with the weekly coupons the price isn't bad. You gotta use the coupon. Now it's online (whew) so just download the app. The checkout staff was talking to each other while the line built up. Like 5 minutes chit chat while we waited. What is not to love about Michaels? Especially, this Michaels at Westheimer Crossing Mall. It got everything I need to decorate my house from seasonal items to framing to gift ideas to hobbies. I have been shopping at Michaels since my college days, about the same time I began to learn event engagements. Buying trinkets costs more than making them myself. So, I took classes for handcrafts. After I came to Houston, I only look for Michaels on holiday decorations. We bought 6 Christmas wreaths and some ornaments over 16 years ago. These dressed wreaths are still in use to this day. Of course, we buy updated ornaments. You know I like to take pictures, not just for Yelp reviews. I came here to find that perfect frame for my prize-winning photo from the Yelp Houston Photo Exhibit event in 2015. Recently, I came to the framing department to get an SS Lurline Menu from the 50's a permanent frame on my wall. Thanks to the employee Ariana!!! She provided me with the top-of-the-line customer service. I'm grateful for her taking time to help me select the matting paper and other frames to accompany 2 other artworks. NEVER USE THEIR CUSTOM FRAMING- Had an awful experience getting a custom frame done here. Price seemed quite high to start. Then they literally destroy my print (I guess using heat treatment) giving it a bunch of wrinkles, and they still try to frame it and give it to me. I'm glad I noticed the wrinkles. They purchase a replacement art piece, but don't even get the exact same thing I had before. They buy a slightly cheaper print of it, tell me over the phone that I'll likely get some discount, but then when I pick it up they refused to give me any discount at all. read more

If you think this place is cheap, you're taking the Michael. But it's a good catch-all for any kind of crafting product you need. This is a pretty typical but pretty large arts and crafts store, and it can get pretty expensive, but Barbi really likes it because she's into this kind of thing, and so I bring her here whenever she needs to come here basically. She ask us if we had card or cash and I wish I had a card at the time to do self checkout. it's not talked about but COVID numbers are still HIGH! I needed 2 frames for original artwork. I didn't have time to bring them someplace to get them framed. I should have just found a framing shop. What junk! The 2 frames cost $70. When I took off the back I got the first glimpse of how bad they were. The true value is maybe $20. You have to be very careful what you purchase because the quality is poor at best! read more

I went into the store today to purchase some supplies for some upcoming projects. There wasn't a cashier at the register so I proceeded to self checkout, the cashier comes up and said I'll take you here. I said that I was almost done ringing my items up and I'm fine. She insisted and proceeded to move my items from the self checkout to her register stating that it would be quicker but it absolutely was not. The real reason that she moved my items was because I am a person of color. I watched 3 different people checkout while she was ringing me up and 1 of which set off the alarm when walking out...I'm very disappointed with that interaction. read more

If you aren't a full fledged arts and crafts person like I am, try stepping into one of these stores and look around from corner to corner. You get all of these ideas in your head on what you can do to kill spare time but on a smaller scale than going inside a Home Depot/Lowe's and making a much bigger mess. Inside you will find things to redo little touch ups on your home like trim, make those boring glasses come to life, make shirts for those special outtings that you don't have time to find a sports store to embroider for you. What will you NOT find in here? A lot of little loud kids in here running up and down the isles, pretty much every Michael's and arts and crafts stores I have been too never have had this peace injustice. You will see that the kids that frequent these places are kids, adolescent, family, friends all in a wholesome walking around discussing about what things they can get to do to their time together. Having a 6 year old daughter I never thought to myself I would be in here until I looked at the paint section where one can get a shirt with paints to spray, wooden houses with paint accordingly and easiness of the age as well as paint for glasses that will make her feel that her pink glass will be hers and forever in her memories of the times a father and daughter have spent together in her youth, you get the picture right? This particular store does not seem to have a section of lighting like specialty lamps, l.e.d. novelty lights etc, but I might have the store mixed up with another chain, possibly Hobby Lobby. The name does not look appeasing to the regular shopper that has never ventured out of Walmart, Target, Malls, etc but give these stores a try, they will activate the ideal module in you and even when you leave you will rethink down the road on something that you have seen here and want to return to see the options you have to change the interior of your home. \--------------------------------------------------------------------------- A tip to new YELP'ers - Separate some of your reviews with paragraphs as much as you can so that it is much easier for everybody to read. I just tried to purchase a Christmas tree that was very clearly stacked in a section under $40 trees. Upon purchasing, I realized I had been charged $86.59. Went back into the store to figure it out and the manager was super unprofessional and confrontational from the start. "You bought this here?!" she barked at us right away. She then went to check it out and immediately just said "yeah this isn't the tree the sign is referring to" (mind you there was other trees of the same kind clearly stacked under that $40 sign)... No apology, nothing and she just marches off back to the employee room like we just inconvenienced her greatly. I ended up returning said tree and will not be coming back to this store. Save yourself the trouble and just go to Target. Oh and all of the employees and the manager are entirely unmasked so there's that. Horrible customer experience. read more

Broke the glass on my JMB print and the team at Michaels made it look better than new again. It didn't cost a million but it has a nice value to it and I was worried thinking they wouldn't know how to handle my request but they went over and beyond my expectations. I am a huge fan of Michael's. The staff, although sparse, is quite helpful if you need to find something specific or just need some craft or cake decorating ideas. There are kid's craft classes held every Saturday morning for $2, and each class has a theme. There are also a ton of other classes (cake decorating, painting, etc) that are held throughout the week so be sure to check out the schedule online. With EVERY purchase, you receive a coupon for 40% off one regular priced item. There is also always a similar coupon online. It's typically 40 or 50% off one item. During the holidays, I've noticed their seasonal items go down to 60%. For example, when I went they have Christmas items 60% off. Halloween items were also 60% off during the weeks leading up to the big day. Something to note :) read more

Had a decent amount of inventory while some aisles were definitely better stocked than others - there were a couple that were completely empty though they had signs saying new stuff would be arriving soon. I was able to buy my canvases and paint pens, but my friend was struggling to find some felt adhesives because they were hidden behind some items that were improperly shelved. Luckily, one of the employees knew exactly where to look behind all of that and was able to find what my friend needed. read more

I love this Michael's! It's the one I've been going to for the longest time since I moved to this area of Houston. It never Lacs what I need for a project, or a gift idea, or group gift idea or anything! I love the creativity that comes out of me when I see the items and the selections that they have. I especially love how Innovative you can be with everything that's in there! It's so hard to lack creativity when you're at Michaels. Make sure to go online to find coupons or get on their mailing list. What about a nice silk floral arrangement for my dining room table? My garden has too many plants and not enough garden art! To me, this will always be the new location of Michael's; the original having been up Voss, across from Randall's. You know! Next to the good, newer Antone's. It moved roughly ten years ago, but that Michael's had a special place in my heart. Right. Moving on, changing veins, but not arms... I like the layout of this store better, as well. In a previous life, it was a grocery store (Kroger's, I believe). It's sizable. I also like the layout of Michael's now. Perhaps it was the aimless wandering around the old design for longer than tolerable, but this layout is a bit more logical. Sticatto, short aisles, but logical. There are a number of housewives that frequent this Michael's. I know that's the nature of Michael's and it's whole "let's get crafty" mentality, but I always find this locale has a few more than the Bissonnet location. The plus side to all of this, is that if you can't find what you're looking for here, there is a fantabulous art supply store just a few short blocks away. Texas Art Supply. Still, being mildly artistic and always searching for a cheap fix to "shopping for presents," I often find myself at either this Michael's or the one on Bissonnet. For example, I've made etched wine glasses and coffee mugs. I didn't like their pre-cut stencils, so I bought a sheet here and cut my own design. I again made my own stencils (mimicked a china pattern) for a pair of cheap end tables that I repainted. I learned to macrame a plant holder (don't fault me for surviving the 70s and 80s). I found the supplies to embellish my most recent tacky Christmas sweater. I bought the supplies for the ten year old knit scarf I am now wearing. The list of crafts goes on, but I'll prattle on incessantly. My point is that there are quite a number of crafts you can accomplish by shopping here. You won't find the best of what you need, or at the best price in a big city. But, it helps with the one stooping dilemma, especially for the novice and intermediate craft er. For example, anything involving beads would send me to the Bead Shop in the Village. Yarn, I'd go to Yarns 2 Ewe. Painting or drawing? Texas Arts Supply. Then again, I've also found that wandering the aisles at Michael's is a good brainstorming session. read more

Why are there always only 1-2 cash registers open at a time with a line 7 people each deep? Why are the aisles so thin that only one person can shuffle through them at a time? Why is it, when I asked an employee where an item was, that she asked me if I had "looked over there" while pointing randomly to the other end of the store? A sign hung above one of the colors of the RSTN Wood Stain Markers - above one only _ I believe the walnut - it was not above the other RSTN Wood Stain Markers were marked 8.49 other than this sign the walnut one did not show a price. The sign as you see says RSTN Wood Stain Markers. So I thought all colors were on sale as the sign you have in your store clearly indicates. The cashier had a price check done and told me they were 8.49 and she told me "the sign said walnut" I can read, I hope you can read, if so, you can see the sign does not say walnut so as you know she purposely gave a customer wrong information or another way to put it would be that she intentionally lied to a customer. Michael is the head manager apparently and he was the one who gave her this information and he also told that the sign says walnut, so I should know the sale is only for walnut. Once again I can read and if you can read you can see the sign does not say walnut, Again, please read the sign it does not specify any color. It says RSTN Wood Stain Markers Clearance original $8.49 Now: 4.97 Michael raised his voice to me and was very rude and refused to acknowledge that the sign was confusing, keep in mind he sees words in the sign that are not on the sign such as walnut and only walnut. He also said that it was disgusting of me to question the price - keep in mind the sign says RSTN Wood Stain Markers which does clearly indicate all RSTN Wood Stain Markers. He walked back to the register in front of me saying "I am a man." that is a direct quote. Other customers heard him. So apparently he does not believe women have a right to ask about the pricing in his store. As you can clearly see there was no attempt to provide customer service by any stretch of the definition of what that term means. I'm partial to craft stores because I am definitely a crafter. I came here last night to shop for flowers for my wedding bouquet arrangement, which I am trying to tackle on my own. I found some great flowers- of all types, but did not have much luck for added greenery. The prices are a bit on the higher side, but it seems that Michael's routinely has sales on whatever type flowers are in season. I made sure to pull up the 40% coupon from the website on my phone, and when I went to check out, the teller asked if I'd like to use the additional 50% coupon as well. (Pretty sweet deal!) They have aisles sectioned off by decorative décor, and it's always nice to be able to peruse around and see the items on display. The store seemed to be clean and organized, and there was an employee in each department I went into. read more

I came in to buy six center pieces to put in my department in cosmetics. The two ladies in floral were such a great help to me. They did what i asked for. If somthing had to be changed to my order they listened and corrected it in a friendly professional manner. The price was bit high to have six center pieces made but i loved it, my manager loved it, the associates in the store loved them and wanted to buy them, customers wanted to buy them. I don't really know what to say about this location today because normally they are way more presentable than the store looked today. It appeared ransacked and run through. Not enough merchandise on the shelves, disheveled everywhere, disorganization rampant. Obviously I did not have much interest in purchasing anything from there today. I ran out of yarn while working on a project. The one I needed was on clearance and out at my local store. I ordered the items from this store online and received an email saying the order was ready to be picked up. I traveled 22 miles to pick it up only to get there and find the store closed. There were employees inside who would not come talk to me. They waved me away. I tried calling the store to find out why they sent me an email when I obviously couldn't pick up. The store disconnected the call after the third or fourth ring without picking up multiple times. There was no recorded information saying the store was closed. I tried contacting customer service online. After initially answering, the chats were closed both times without any resolution. I will be taking all further crafting business to Joann's and will be returning all unused yarn purchases at Michaels. Horrible customer service both locally and at the corporate level. read more

I will write this review in the form of the letter I will never send: Dear Michaels, Hi, how how are you doing. I'm mostly cool, thanks. One thing though, and I think you can help me with this. I always get roped into the room mom thing at school (yeah, I know, I won't even bother you with that story) and that usually involves driving around town to get school and project supplies. I think you must be aware that part of your clientele is buying supplies for their personal arts and crafts needs and then part of your clientele is buying classroom stuff (aka, multiple items). My class is small this year and you couldn't even cut it. I know you know this because I'll see whole displays of stuff for the classroom. So I guess my question is why you, and every Michael's on the planet, keeps such a low stock of things and nothing in the back. Would it be so painful to keep extra wooden stars in the back? You're charging .99, they must cost you .10. I cannot count how many times I've had to go to multiple Michaels to get all of what I need. Yesterday i went to two and still didn't get it. I will commend you on your staff (they are nice, as nice as Bissonnet and I-10 wins the award for rudest ever) and I like the little wireless inventory tracker you have that lets you scan the item and know what's out there so I don't think you're lying to me. But still, use your imagination as to what I'm talking about that a class might use and keep more than 10 of these things in stock. I'm only going to return the punishment to you in the form of returns when I end up at the third Michaels and return half of the "just in case I never find the last three of these" I bought. I LOVE the evening staff here, and the early morning crew on Saturdays. Because of my full time college an full time job schedule, I'm always in a rush.... But No matter how in a rush I am, I can ask ANY of them a quick question on where to find a specific item or just ask for their opinion they always have a smile on their face and help me as fast and as efficiently as possible.
