Ordered a curb-side, pick up at this location. Notified them, a few times, that I was there. Sat and watched people go in and same people come out. Waited at least 15 minutes, maybe more. When I called to cancel my order, I lost my $10 voucher, and after calling "customer service?", was told I'd have to wait up to 72 hours to get the voucher put back on my account. Really?!?! Let me preface this review by saying I do not often shop at Michaels anymore, as I find Joann down the road has a much larger selection and includes fabric, something Michaels does not offer. However, there are times when I am looking for a particular item and Michaels might be the better bet in terms of tracking it down. My most recent trip to the store in Geneva with just one of those occasions when I was looking for particular wood letters so I could paint them and hang them with our Christmas stockings. I found the letter section easily enough, but as has often been my experience at the store, they were missing the ones I needed. When I say often, I really do mean it, as I have never been to this store and gotten exactly what I came for. In addition to what seems to be a chronic lack of merchandise, Michaels' prices always seem to be much higher than Hobby Lobby or Joann's, and that bothers me. Why should I have to pay more for the same items? True, they do accept coupons, and even competitors' coupons, but if you have to pay more for the items in the first place, a coupon does not really benefit you. The store itself always seems cramped, and displays in the middle of the aisle make it difficult to navigate. Perhaps they should think about expanding, as they clearly do not have enough room for the little merchandise they offer. read more

I went into Michaels looking for certain item. I usually never ask for help unless I really can't find it. We went in 30 minutes before they closed.. to be fair 28 mins. I found my paint and asked for sealant. I asked a male employer and said ummm.. down this isle somewhere. Probably next to the glue. UMMM cool! So I'm looking... doing more then he did and decide I can't find it. So I go look for someone else but when I found someone there just talking to the first employer about what time they will get out of there and hopefully by 9:20. I get it. Retail sucks! Crafty? Need something framed?! Come here! My recent Michael's trip was amazing. I had my little 3 yr old with me and didn't know what to expect since I had some questions about framing and uv glass and such. It took me quite awhile to pull the trigger and get the cubs newspaper framed for my husband. He is a huge cubs fan and I had planned on doing it myself until I called Michael's to see what they charge and the lady mentioned uv protected glass, so help with fading and yellowing of the paper. Well I totally forgot about that until she mentioned something so I figured I would bring it in and see what Michael's would do different. It was about a $70.00 difference from then to me framing it. . I know shocking! I already bought the frame ($25.00/on sale) and when I explained to the lady what I wanted, she already had done several (probably 100's) of these since he cubs won the World Series. She picked the background (cubbie blue and red) out and asked a couple questions and it was done. They have to obviously keep it a few days to do it but like I said I had my little guy with me and he can get antsy pretty quick. I recently moved to the area and was happy to have a Michaels so close to my new house. I am a teacher, a quilter and a knitter, and my children go through art supplies like water. Every time I step into Michaels - previously at least once a week - I never spend less than $50 and it's usually more like $75 or $80. However, I find that I am going to Michaels less and less now. The store on Randall road is SO poorly managed and so disorganized that I often wind up leaving with nothing because they didn't stock what I needed or I just plain couldn't find it. The employees are not helpful. A couple of weeks ago I needed blue painter's tape. I walked up to two employees who were having an animated conversation while stocking shelves. I walked up to them purposefully, while saying aloud to my daughter, "I bet these ladies can help us!" but they were so deep in conversation that they didn't see or hear me and I felt so irritated I left the store. This was after I had already spent a good 10 minutes hunting for it aisle by aisle. On a later trip, I did stumble upon the exact item I needed - after having purchased it at another store. How frustrating to know that the item I wanted was stocked there, but nobody would help me find it. The checkout counter is extremely small and so full of merchandise that one time I got home to see that I had a few items in my bag I hadn't purchased - the employee had thought that these "last minute impulse buy" items stored on the checkout counter were part of my order and I hadn't caught it. I was very unhappy to have to make an extra trip back to the store to return them. When I did, I didn't even receive a cursory apology for the mistake. I have lived here for just a few months and have already had enough negative experiences (basically every time I go in the store I come out frustrated) that I have started to plan my craft shopping for times when I know I will be in the vicinity of another Michaels location. Despite the fact that this one is less than a mile from my home. That says a LOT about how unpleasant it is to shop there. read more

The store itself is an average Michaels and the staff is friendly. There is a younger girl who works there who is actually extremely helpful and friendly- she also saved me a lot of money at checkout. My only issue is the line- why is the checkout line a mile long? It seems that they don't have enough employees on the weekends to move the line along quick enough. Last time I waited so long in line that when the cashier was having issues ringing up my return, I told her I couldn't wait any longer and had to come back. I didn't think I would spend as much time waiting in line as I did shopping. read more

I had a horrible experience at this location. I use to work at a Michaels store and know how customer should be treated. All I wanted to know was the price of an item and asked the first employee that I saw who was working at the floral counter, she said she could not tell me the price of the item. Then went to the front of the store and asked another employee the price and she was very RUDE when she took the item out of my hand and rolled her eyes at me and my daughter, lets just say I walked out and took my business to Hobby Lobby! read more
