I was VERY dissatisfied by this photographer. From the beginning I tried to explain to my wife that…read morehis prices were simply outrageous. I am sorry but 7000.00 for an engagement session and wedding is ridiculous. His deposit was 3500.00 which again in my opinion is a verging on insanity. But of course, we booked him despite my protests. The day of was a little warm. He showed up and gave us some good guidance and we tried several locations. We took over 500 photos, now I realize not all of those were going to be winners, but we were expecting about 20% of those to come back as finished photos. He took a little bit longer than expected but hey its art...you cant rush those things. We looked at the photos together and were completely crushed. We received less than 80 photos, of those there were more than 10 of which we were not in at all. Now im not speaking about the ones with the ring sitting on a mossy rock either. There were legitimately photos we were not in, that made it into the final cut. Additionally we now have another 3 photos of us walking away, but not in any sort of artsy way. It was as we were getting into place. I think there were 10 photos where the light shining through the trees left huge white orbs all over my face. Now I completely understand that he obviously took some shots that weren't great, hell I bet 80% of them weren't. But for a terrible to make its way to the final cut is inexcusable. Furthermore what little remained featured us at odd angels and completely off center. We brought our concerns up and he went back and fixed some of them. Now he did fix half of them, but for us to have to ask for him to make obvious corrections for a one hour engagement session......we lost all confidence that he could successfully shoot our wedding day and process all those photos without error. We unfortunately had to break contract with him, and not once did he attempt or offer to return any part of the 3.5k we had to pay him. Furthermore id also like to add from speaking with him and the amount of weddings he has shot versus his number of reviews, something doesn't add up. I seriously think he may have found a way to delete poor reviews. Because for someone with 4.95 out of 5 to conduct business as he did....I am personally shocked. We went with another photographer and he spent half the time with us for an additional engagement shoot and did such a phenomenal job. He was quick and very meticulous. He shot our wedding just last week actually, I cant wait to see the results.

Each moment of our wedding was captured with us hardly noticing she was there. She did a great job guiding us through our posed photos and was patient while we tried to corral our various family members together for group shots. Dena's candid photo work is outstanding! I LOVE the photos she took during the speeches, the reactions on everyones faces are priceless. We now have wonderful momentos from our wedding that we can cherish for the rest of our lives! Dena also loves to surprise her clients with gifts! From the lunch she treated us to at our first meeting through the pre-wedding guides and the post wedding ornaments she clearly has fun with her work and enjoys spoiling her clients. Our wedding was in the Pittsburgh area, but we live about 90 minutes away. Without hesitation, Dena offered to drive to us for our engagement session. She even drove up to the park earlier in the week to scout good photo locations. On top of all of this, we planned for part of our engagement shoot to be somewhat silly- wearing taco shirts and eating tacos as if on a picnic. Dena checked in several times to make sure we had all thing thins we needed: blanket, picnic basket, and even plastic bags to put under the blanket since it was wet out. Dena was very easy going and easy to work with. Our personalities just meshed. I wasn't always the quickest at emails (sorry Dena if you're reading this!), but she always followed up to make sure everything was in order. I always felt at ease when communicating with her which made me sure I'd be okay with having her around on our big day. On the day of the wedding, she arrived early and started taking pictures before I even knew she was there. We didn't have a long list of "must have" photos, but Dena made sure we got them all. I can't tell you how many of our guests said that it felt like our photographer was everywhere, and we were at a sprawling outside venue. But even so, if something was happening, Dena got a picture of it. Our photos clearly show that. The end results basically speak for themselves. We have over a thousand photos that capture our day better than we could ever imagine. We also have a handful of small gifts from Dena that she sent along the way. I think the biggest praise comes from my now husband who famously didn't have an opinion on anything wedding. As I told him I was writing this he said, "Dena was my favorite vendor."

This is a brand new studio for owners Chad Djubek, who is a Pittsburgh area Daguerreotype artist and his wife Darcy Stoltzfus, who does Art Direction and makes pretty awesome little Dag cases. The studio was very clean and setup so that it was easy to find everything. He had more than enough equipment/supplies for everyone to use, and there was only a little wait time to get in the Darkroom, to be expected when there are 7 people in a class. The Darkroom was clean and laid out in an easy to use fashion. Under Chad's supervision we built our own cameras out of cigar boxes, cans and the like. Then, we broke up and went to take our shots. By the nature of alternative photographic techniques, they don't always work or come out as you want, but Chad worked with everyone to troubleshoot their cameras and make sure they captured a good image before the class was over. At the end he scanned our images and uploaded them to the World Pinhole Day website with other photos from across the world celebrating photography's only holiday. I'll include an url of our images at the end, so you can see what we accomplished. All in All, I had a great day. I've already made about a dozen pinhole cameras in my life(20 years ago), so I didn't require as much help, but I did make a second camera with 5 holes and Chad helped me figure out exposures and a shutter system that was so easy even a caveman could have done it. He will be scheduling more alternative photographic workshops and I will be signing up for them. Plus, you can rent darkroom time. Did I mention he was primarily a Daguerreotype artist? I seriously can't think of any reason to take stars away, so 5 it is. http://www.pinholeday.org/gallery/2013/index.php?formType=list&groupname=PrimalPhotographic:Pittsburgh
