They are very thorough and take the time to truly talk to you if you have questions. Dr Rifkin saved the life of my baby and me when I very unexpectedly had a medical incident and had to deliver 12 weeks early. He, Dr Cohen and Jamie checked on me daily in the hospital for a week. We had wanted to explore some labor inducing methods, like stripping the membranes, which we had done with our first child. However, she said she wouldn't do it since it doesn't work. Of course, this is where a doctor's experience comes into play, but it was disappointing since we had had this option with our previous doctor. Actual labor induction was an experience - as it often is - but she certainly stepped in when the timing was right. I felt like I was in good hands even when things got very tough.

This is my experience with my first pregnancy... As a healthcare professional in OB field, I am super happy with my experience with North Shore OB & Gyn. I was debating between using a doctor I know personally from LIJ Medical Center and using a doctor with privileges at North Shore University Hospital. In the end, I went with this practice because I didn't want to deliver where I work and wanted a 'clean slate' experience of a sorts. I like that the practice rotates you to see all the attendings so that you're not surprised on game day. I know a lot of the reviews complain about wait times but I know other doctors who are so popular people will wait 3 hours to see them so 1.5 hours is nothing. On average I waited about 1 hour to be called in to an exam room and another 10-20 min til the doctor came in. I usually went on a weekday morning or early afternoon. Also it depends on the doctor you're seeing. Dr Calluzzo was the fastest. She is straight to the point and mostly business, which I like (admittedly because I'm familiar with the process and what is expected so I don't want to waste my whole day at the office). She ended up being my favorite because she had a great bedside manner during my delivery- I ended up with a c/section and she held me when they put in my epidural- even though it's usually the nurse who does. I have only seen one doctor I work with do that and she is the one patients will wait 3 hours to see so this showed me I had a doctor who actually cares. Dr Herzog was good too but he's a man and a bit old fashioned so I probably wouldn't have felt as comforted were he the attending on call that day. The front desk staff and nurses were all great. They made us feel like long time friends. Plus the location is close to home since I did not want to have to travel so frequently to forest hills, especially once the weekly visits started in the end of the third trimester.
