Had the privilege of being treated by Dr. Ko for 6/7+ years and it made such an impact on my day-to-day and pre/post-op care. Working in tune with all the little nuances of my life to curate a care plan and treatment that helped me push through and taught me how to be aware of triggers and how to best work through rehab process. He was the one who also helped me get my spinal tumor found as he knew that something wasn't working right when the treatment (at the time) had plateaued, and he encouraged further medical testing. That resulted in a spinal fusion and he worked to get me back in functioning order - most importantly, safely. This genuinely may have saved my life. Dr. Michael Ko is an excellent physical therapist. What separates him from most therapists is his specialized training. In particular, he has earned certification from the Institute of Physical Arts (IPA). (www.instituteofphysicalart.com). This certification is the culmination of a long series of demanding courses that teach PT practitioners an advanced method of treating patients. I have been treated at different times by three people with IPA training. It makes a huge difference in their ability to identify and treat individual patients' needs. I have been a patient of Dr. Ko from September 2019 through December 2025. Dr. Ko provided all my physical therapy needs in 2019 for my total left knee replacement and for my 2025 total right knee replacement which was complicated by my also having fractured my right ankle. Dr. Ko rehabbed both to getting me back to walking correctly. Dr Ko treats the whole body. The time between my knee replacements Dr. Ko treated my tendinitis on my right arm/elbow and later pulled a muscle on my left shoulder blade that impacted the use of my left upper arm. I've had the good fortune to have been treated by the amazing Dr. Ko as my physical therapist for 8 years. He is a very experienced and knowledgeable clinician. Over that time, he has treated me for a variety of medical issues that included a hip replacement, neck disc stuff, and very painful SI joint dysfunction. Dr Ko came highly regarded from my husband who used him after he had arthroscopic surgery for a meniscal tear. I recently suffered from a severe muscle injury that left me initially lame on my right leg. After a thorough discussion with Dr. Ko and some posture/movement tests, he determined the cause of why I injured myself in the first place. I like his approach in that he looks at how the body and muscles work holistically together as opposed to focusing just on the site of your pain. Full disclosure: I was definitely improved by the time I saw him. However, I still had lingering pain that he helped me through. Also, the fact that he was able to identify the origin of my injury, provided me with exercises that would strengthen the muscles to prevent reinjury, but also did some serious deep tissue massages/applications during each visit to loosen up the muscles are the main reasons for the positive review. I'd usually end up feeling more limber and less painful with each subsequent visit. I was suffering from very painful sciatica that caused a great deal of pain in my right leg. There were days when I could barely walk. I had been getting various treatments and physical therapy from several different doctors over several months. I found Movement IQ PT when searching for a physical therapist who specializes in Movement Therapy and myofacial release. The positive reviews led me to make an appointment with Dr. Ko. I was very glad that I did. The first thing he asked me to do was to walk back and forth in his office. Just from watching me walk, he was able to diagnose where I was hurting. Then it was time to work on fixing my various issues. He used a combination of massage, myofacial release, and exercises. I walked out of his office much more easily than I had walked in. He suggested some very simple exercises that really made a difference. I saw him for only 4 sessions. Every time we worked on a different problem area, and every time I walked out of his office feeling better than when I walked in. During every session he added a single new exercise. After 4 treatments, he had gotten rid of a lot of the tightness that's been plaguing me for years. I still have a couple of problem areas, but he suggested that I continue to work on my exercises for several months, and then to see him again if I was still in pain. The tightness in my body was developed over a number of years, so progress is going to be slow. But I am confident that I am headed in the right direction. I saw Dr. Ko for a shoulder injury that my doctor had told me was most likely a rotator cuff tear. Feeling anxious and scared that I would need to have surgery to repair the damage, I visited him to see if there was anything I could do to relieve the pain. During just one session, Dr. Ko not only provided me with the tools to begin healing my shoulder, he also correctly determined that my injury was not a rotator cuff tear after all! wow! what a surprise! i was highly recomended to him by my GP. i went there twice. the first time, he just gently felt areas with his hands and asked questions about if i could feel pain or not. then, on the second visit, he began pushing on me with his elbow so he could get more power into the push right over my liver. THAT DESTROYED ME! the next morning, i woke up in extreme pain. i could barely stand up or walk. it went on like that all day. that was yesterday. today, it's a little bit better, but it still hurts all the time. i emailed dr ko, and he replied to me to go to my doctor [GP] to get pain meds. no' i'm sorry' or anything like empathy. that's enough for me. when i recover from this, i'll find another therapist. read more

Dr Ko is amazing! I have been having headache for the past 10 years and had multiple chiro, acupuncturist, physical therapist and orthopedist try to help me. I had injections that made me worse. I was really skeptical at first but my aunt told me to see him and I couldn't face her if I didn't. I am so glad I did. Thanks Yelpers for another great recommendation. Saw Dr. Michael yesterday for a twisted ankle (that's on the mend). Although Mike confirmed no tears or fractures, he did identify existing issues that could worsen and also why I'm getting so much cramping in my foot/toes. Anyway, a thorough exam and therapy for about 50 minutes and then executing the exercises he recommended to achieve the normal foot. He initially thought 2 sessions would be good, but after the exam, he said I was good to go. If I had any further issues to come back. I have been dealing with shoulder impingement/ rotator cuff problems in my left shoulder for the last 3 years. I started to get use to the pain, until the pain became unbearable 6 months ago, and left me unable to participate in the sport of Olympic Weightlifting. I met Mike when he came to my Yoga teacher training to do a lecture on injuries and anatomy. The yoga instructors highly recommended him, so I decided to give him a try and I'm so glad that I did. Mike worked on my shoulder, my pelvic being uneven, wrist, rib cage, etc. He showed me proper breathing techniques, how to walk and stand, so that my body is stacked and aligned. All these things were beneficial to the recovery of my shoulder. After 4 visits, my shoulder felt 100 times better. A month after finishing my visits with Mike, my shoulder still feels better and little by little, I am rebuilding the strength back in my shoulder. Mike is truly an excellent PT. I have Traumatic arthropathy due to an injury to my hip joint, which has resulted in degenerative changes to my femur, limitations in movement and pain. With that said I had learned to accept my pain and discomfort, however after having a consultation with Michael my options seemed to change to include a sense of hopefulness. I originally saw Michael for knee problems, and when I later developed shoulder problems I did not hesitate to see him again. I think his diagnostic and communication skills are exceptional. Dr. Ko is an extremely knowledgeable therapist. After a shoulder surgery that didn't heal quite right (and after working through pain, loss of neck mobility, and other therapies for over a year), Dr. Ko worked on it and, after one session, I had regained my full range of neck mobility, almost all the pain was gone, and the grinding noise in the joint was eliminated. After a second session to address knee pain, he had eliminated 90% of the pain. His methods are very different than those of other pts I've seen... he spent the entire session each time (60-90 minutes) working on me directly, (rather than just a few minutes after I've been handed off to an assistant to do generic exercises, as is usually the case with pts). As a yoga studio owner, I take a great deal of care when recommending someone, since I consider my own reputation to be on the line as well... My experience with Doctor Ko was an A+. I injured my ACL, LCL, and IT band. I contacted Dr. Ko over a weekend and he responded to me immediately. I have some hip and knee pain I been resting for a while due to my addiction to crossfit. I never took weeks off and went in 4-5 times a week. This took a toll on me and one side of my hip was the first to let me know that I'd gone overboard. I went to Dr. Ko with what was bothering me and he gave me a few tests to pinpoint where I needed work. What is also nice is that he participates in crossfit himself so we were able to easily communicate about the common movements that I would perform in the gym as well as how my sedentary office job affects my hip.
