Hamblin takes great care to match the color and look of existing teeth so the crown looks totally natural.

I trust whatever she tells me and all of her recommendations. Zen Dental's offices are very clean, modern and gorgeous. They even have a waiting room offering patients coffee and tea. However, I've never had to wait long enough to enjoy it! They take you in very quickly. Bottom line, this THE BEST DENTAL OFFICE in all of Sonoma County. Don't believe me? Check it out!

I had no cavities or any real problems but she still managed to project horror at the state of my perfectly fine teeth. At check out the office assistant told me I needed to book a 4 appointment round of scaling and root planing--which was not discussed during my visit other than the doctor saying "you could develop gum disease" not that there were any signs of it at the time. I booked the appointments but it didn't feel right. Why do invasive procedures on healthy gums? I canceled the appointments and didn't go back. 10 years later I'm extremely happy because I have no gum disease and haven't had as much as a cavity since that appointment. Sometimes invasive dental work can cause much more harm than good if not needed. And why be so condescending about a perfectly healthy mouth? None of it makes sense. I would advise everyone to steer clear of this practice unless they have made major changes.

WOW! Ok, here is what happened with my family…read more My wife was running late for an appointment, called and got into an argument with the secretary (that needs customer service skills). Then we received a email that they cancelled all of my family's appointments in the future. I called , apologized. And I was to get a call back in the afternoon by the mean secretary. No call. They just emailed my ex wife her records. I called to get my records and was told they would call the police. After contacting my attorney, this is illegal. And further action will be taken. This is a great dentist. The Dr herself is caring, and really cares about each and every patient. We as a family are sad we have to go look for another DR due to an mis understanding between the DRs staff and I. I really wish I could speak to the DR personally? My suggestion is to keep your thoughts and feelings away from this staff. You do not want to lose the best DR in Sonoma county. Like my family did.

I am especially fond of Mary Kay, one of the hygienists, although all of them are wonderful at what they do! The front office staff is friendly and good at their jobs. I couldn't be happier with Kelly Elward and all of her staff. I highly recommend Kelly Elward's practice if you are looking for the best dentist in town!!

It was very difficult to get my parents established with this practice. Initially, I tried to…read moreoverlook concerns because I understand healthcare offices can become very busy. Unfortunately, we experienced repeated issues with communication, follow-up, and professionalism. After my mother had a tooth extraction, she was sent home without clear after-care guidance. She experienced significant bleeding through the gauze and was unable to reach anyone at the office for assistance. She ultimately had to call another dentist for advice on managing the bleeding. A few days later, she still did not know whether her stitches were dissolvable, which should have been explained at the time of the procedure. Only after she followed up were arrangements made for stitch removal. More recently, my mother received a crown and experienced severe pain once the numbing wore off. She could not chew and even lightly touching the area was painful. I suggested she request a bite adjustment. Again, no one answered the phone, so she went directly to the office and received an adjustment, but her pain continued. She was advised to take high doses of pain medication despite her age and history of renal insufficiency. She took only what she felt she could tolerate safely. At her next appointment, which was scheduled for a filling, I attended with her to discuss pain management concerns. The assistant who prepared her was kind and explained that the nerve may need time to settle after the previous procedure, and we appreciated that explanation. When Dr. Scarfe arrived, the interaction became uncomfortable. He expressed frustration that my mother had not followed the medication recommendation. I explained that she had concerns due to her kidney function and asked that we speak respectfully and professionally. During the discussion, he acknowledged that he did not know her current labs but continued to insist the recommended dosing was appropriate. As I translated for my mother, the conversation escalated further and he ultimately declined to continue treatment. At that point, I agreed and chose to leave the practice. I thanked the assistant and receptionist for their help and accepted the referral that had been provided. As a healthcare professional myself, I found the interaction disappointing. My concern was not disagreement about treatment recommendations--it was the manner in which concerns were addressed. Patients deserve individualized care, respectful communication, and consideration of language barriers. If communication is difficult, interpreter services or designated contacts should be used. I cannot recommend this practice based on our experience.

I…read morebegan visiting his practice when I first moved here 11 years ago and have had no reason to leave - despite urging from other family and friends to try their "superior, more modern" dental offices. Dr. Wilburn's staff is professional and caring and they have a sense of humor. Last year when the lights went out during a torrential rain storm, they instructed other patients to leave and come back the next day when power most likely would be restored. Not me, though. The sole hygenist in the office was in the middle of cleaning my teeth. She said to me, "We have enough juice from the generator to finish you up." So I agreed to stay. With Dr. Wilburn's dental assistant holding a bright flashlight over my face, the hygenist continued to clean my teeth. Dr. Wilburn cheered them on, and we all had a great laugh after they were done with me. Today, for the 2nd, maybe 3rd time, maybe even 4th time, I chipped my front tooth when I absentmindedly chomped down on my thumbnail to rid myself of a hang-nail. Dr. Wilburn had tried unsuccessfully before to use resin to repair the damage, and when the insurance company last year finally approved a veneer filling, he told me it would last a minimum of 5 years. Well, not so. With this new, deep chip, my tooth felt especially jaggedly and it throbbed. I called his office and left a message on the emergency voice-mail number explaining that it wasn't a life-threatening issue yet it was uncomfortable and sharp against my tongue and especially untimely in the middle of the Christmas season with holiday parties when I needed to smile. Today is Saturday, mind you, and I thought his office would call me back on Monday. Yet to my rescue and delight, Dr. Wilburn called me back within 3 hours and asked if I could meet him at his office ASAP. In a period of 30 minutes, he temporarily repaired my tooth, told me to expect a call from his staff Monday after they'd contacted my insurance to see if another veneer (or better yet, a crown) might be authorized, and sent me out of the office with a smile I can temporarily be proud of. If that isn't dedication to patient service, then what is?
