I don't normally care for writing reviews on Yelp, especially negative ones.. And honestly I have never stepped foot into this salon, but after meeting the "manager" I really don't care to or even want to. This ain't it. After a night out in the city, I was stopped by a lovely makeup artist of the salon with red hair and bomb makeup who tried pitching their services and special one-time-deal package they had going on. Compared to any potential customer who they could have stopped on 34th street, I would like to think that I was pretty patient and had open ears because they conversation went on for more than 5 minutes-- which is a steal in NYC because you can't get anyone to talk to ANYONE. The lady did what she needed to do (AKA her JOB, which I respected enough to listen to) until the manager/owner came into the conversation.. I sat through their sales pitch and denied the services everytime, saying that "I just didn't have the money right now" no matter what specialized deal they had to reward me of my "honesty" had come up. I honestly just didn't have the money to spend on a service that I had to pay up front. I didn't WANT to spend the money. And I shouldn't have to bend over backwards in order to do so. Despite this, I even went as far as asking for a business card because I explained I was open to finding someone who can take care of natural hair, rather than having to go all the way to New Jersey to my regular stylist. They prided themselves to be a woman/black/natural hair-owned salon but did not pride themselves as the women in power they are. After repeatedly and respectfully declining, the manager said, "so you're really that broke, huh?" ..Excuse me? I am not obligated to tell you what my finances are other than the fact that I am declining your services. I may be committed to a stylist but open to another. It could have been ANY situation. Yet after hearing that, I simply collected my peace and wished them a good night. But I mean, who wants to be told that, ever? How is that appropriate to tell a potential customer? Because in the world of making money for your business, I would assume prospects and building loyalty are just as valuable as actual customers who buy on the spot. As I said, coming from a background of sales in the fashion and beauty industry, it is extremely disappointing to be treated so spitefully, unsympathetically, and unprofessionally simply because you don't want to spend money right when someone stops you on YOUR night out. I get that y'all are trying to market and advertise, but have some respect. The disappointing part about it is, I really would have went to the salon and paid full price to try out any services that would fit me despite not being able to pay at the very moment because there are very little to no salons in the tri-state area that actually do take care of natural hair RIGHT. I would expect that natural girls stick with natural girls and have their backs with their business model and belief FOR natural girls. Althought this is definitely not a reflection on the stylists and their talent, the way an owner does business is just as important and speaks just as loudly. Thanks, but-- I'd rather travel all the way to New Jersey to MY regular, RESPECTFUL stylist and woman-owned business instead of taking the chances on a businesswoman who has no respect for potential clients or even other women in general. I had an incredible experience as a first time customer! Hyacinth consulted with me, understood the look I was going for and DELIVERED. She washed and conditioned my hair, then, gave me an incredible mini head massage and cut my hair to perfection. I am soooo beyond ecstatic with my new cut. Michael Christopher's is primarily a hair studio space with a small mani-pedi station in the very back. This review is only based on the manicures. I bought a deal for CND Shellac manicures (I think $30 for 2 of 'em) and called them right away once I received the deal's confirmation e-mail. They tell you they only have one manicurist available, but I've definitely seen 2 women doing manicures before. Making the appointment was the biggest hurdle for me - they are closed on Mondays - and because of the lack of staff, anytime I booked a nail appointment, it had to be at least one month out. The manicures themselves came out very clean and tidy both times. Manicurist has a slight 'tude to her, but she primarily focuses on cutting, filing, painting, etc. She definitely hurt me a few times and that was uncalled for. So basically, the mani looks good, but it took pain to get there. Without the amazing deal, very unlikely I'd consider coming back. read more

I like getting my nails done with silence. That's my preference. And she doesn't seem to mind. Anywho, I'm observing her technique so that when I don't have gels, I can paint my own nails at home. I've learned a lot. She's efficient, meticulous, and well paced. She doesn't go too fast or too slow. My gels legit last for 2 weeks without a single chip each and every time. As many reviewers noted below, this salon has a terrible way of advertising itself with aggressive promoters on the street. I was pushed into purchasing two salon certificates for $35 dollars and decided to be optimistic since the money had already been spent! However, upon arriving at the salon, the hairdresser continued this aggressive and pushy tactic to convince me to get highlights, blow out, the whole nine yards when I just wanted to relax after a bad day and use my certificate that I already paid for on a simple trim. After I declined the 20$ blow out, the hairdresser told me that I would be walking out of the salon with wet hair then (when when the certificate clearly states that it includes a simple blow dry.) After emphasizing again I just wanted a simple trim, the hairdresser told me she'd have to charge an extra 20$ (noted on the certificate for long, thick and curly hair) when I have very thin, straight Asian hair that just touches my chest. I couldn't help but feel scammed and left the salon and won't ever be returning. My friend had a slightly better experience at the salon which is why I am giving 2 stars. The woman at the front desk was very friendly which was the only thing that kept me from crying as I walked out of that salon. read more

There are two reasons I would ever spend energy writing a review: (1) when my experience exceeds my expectations or (2) when my experience was so abysmal that I would like to spare someone that same experience. Unfortunately. It is reason NUMBER 2 which compels me to write this review today. I've never walked out of a salon looking worse than when I entered. I was pushed to purchase this all-inclusive package by this aggressive salesperson which, in my opinion, was only a typical hair wash and cut. Ridiculous thing was, the woman told me she would have to charge $20 to blow dry my "long" hair....so I chose to airdry lol. But in the end, she decided to "treat" me with a complementary blowout so I don't walk out of a SALON with wet hair....thanks? The moment I sat down, she told me my hair was super dry and needed a DEEP conditioning that they offer at around $100 something but would give me a good deal for $70. I passed--- clearly they're desperate for money, not to give you a good haircut. They also burned my hair while blow drying---i mean, even I know not to put the hairdryer on high heat right against the hair. She also attempted to curl it at the end and I ended up looking like----I should stop talking before I offend anyone but I walked out with my hair tied. Not going to spend anymore energy writing this review. In a nutshell, never coming back here again. Would never recommend this place to anyone. If you want to try it, be my guest-- clearly some people must like this place for it to still be in business. read more

I was approached outside Columbia University by an aggressive sales person trying to get me to buy a discount package for this salon. I was hesitant because I had never heard of it, and thought it was a strange way to approach someone, but she seemed cute, and was persistent, so she convinced me to give it a try. I walked in was surprised by the look of the salon. My hairdresser did not seem put together, or with the trends, which made me even more hesitant to get my hair cut here, but I tried to be optimistic. She didn't ask what I wanted, so I had to interject, and be very specific about the direction, before she began cutting my hair. Did not inspire confidence. She took off more than I asked, and put in weird layers I did NOT ask for, and didn't tell me what she was doing until she had already made the cuts. She styled it in a very dated look, I was totally surprised at how out of touch the styling seemed, it didn't look at all like the pictures I had showed her, or like something anyone out of the last 20 years would have worn. Still I tried to be optimistic about how it would look later, once I had styled it on my own. Not what you want from a salon, but still not a complete disaster. However, when it came time to get my eyebrows waxed (part of the package the girl on the street pressured me into), the girl took me into a very small and dark room in the back. She didn't consult with me AT ALL before heading to the wax. I had to stop her and explain what I wanted, before she went ahead and put wax on my face. At this point, I was very hesitant. She didn't offer me a mirror and seemed very confused that I would have any preferences, or want any say in how my own eyebrows looked. At this point, I had had enough, and said I didn't want my eyebrows done. I left then, without having had my eyebrows done, and with a haircut I would never have asked for, and didn't receive any compensation for my trouble. Horrible first impression. A salesperson for this salon just stopped me on my way out of my office building, down in the financial district. His flattery was successful in getting me to stop and talk to him, but he was unsuccessful in getting me to commit to a spa beauty package right then and there, WITH AN IMPENDING THUNDERSTORM LOOKING OVER OUR HEADS. Red herrings: apparently this salon is advertising this haircut/mani-pedi/spa offer to the first 25 girls. Lies! I glanced at his payment list - I was not within those "lucky" 25. Secondly, the package was priced at $70 for over 5 services. That's not competitive pricing for ANY salon in the New York region. Lastly he was incredibly pushy. That was the final straw for me. When I politely declined for the 300th time, he said to me: "let me take this pamphlet back from you, I obviously made a big mistake." Ouch. I really would have considered the offer more in depth had he given me more time, but definitely not after those nasty words came from his mouth. If this is the face of your salon, then there's no logical reason why I should place my trust in your beauty services. read more

I was trying to politely leave the situation, but finally had to get mean before it clicked that his sales pitch wasn't working. Fake flattery usually doesn't . Then he took the pamphlet back from me (um wouldn't you want people to take it with them?) and said that I was clearly on a lower level than him. It almost made me laugh. I came here once during my search for a regular salon in Midtown. They had signed me up for a discounted rate at the salon-- someone approached me on the street and offered me 50% off a cut and color if I paid $30 in advance, or something like that. I figured why not try it since I was looking for a salon anyway. When I went in, the stylist wasn't there yet, so I had to wait a bit. Then she came in and I showed her a photo of exactly what I wanted-- a short, shoulder-length wavy crop with chocolate brown color. I had been trying out this hairstyle for several months and was playing with the length but was pretty happy with the overall style. The stylist was excited and quickly got to work. She offered to do some subtle highlights, and I said yes because I'd never tried out highlights before. The color turned out great, but the cut was not what I asked for. She gave me an A-line bob, styled straight, and much shorter than I wanted. It looked fabulous, so I wasn't upset, but it was distinctly different than the photo that I had showed her. As a result, I decided not to come back to the salon, because I can't trust them to do what I want. Also, their regular prices without discounts are absurd! I can't remember them exactly but I saw the price list when I was checking out and I immediately knew that I would never pay that much for a haircut at such a mediocre salon. This place has more negative reviews than positive ones so I definitely hafta give my two cents because I had a good experience. I too bought a Lifebooker deal for a cut and blow and I thought Hyacinth did a great job with my simple trim and layering. She's super friendly and warm, so is the receptionist...who doubles as a hair washer. My hair is very low maintenance but thick. Hyacinth took her time w/ the cut and dry. The place is calm and low-key. The salon seems to have a specialty of servicing women of color based on the posters hanging on their walls. I doubt I'd go back if I had to pay normal prices which is around $75 for a cut and blowdry (esp because Lifebooker dominates my life) but via Lifebooker I'd return. read more

Used a Yelp deal here back in September 2012 and the owner, Hyacinth actually styled my hair. I went in for a simple wash and blow out, I have fine, curly, but thick hair, easy to blow out. She did a great job and was very friendly. Didn't like her attempt to spiral curl my hair but she quickly agreed she didn't like it curled and quickly flat ironed the spirals out back to pin straight hair. The best part of my visit was my hair trim! I rarely love a stylist attempts at trimming my hair. They either don't trim enough or too much. The cut was pure precision. I loved how even and neatly trimmed my hair was! The receptionist was also attentive and friendly. The downside, I didn't check the original prices for all services in comparison for the 20 for 40 deal. My bill quickly came up to 70 more bucks + tip I had left to pay. A hair trim alone is 30 bucks. So be prepared. Overall, I had a good experience. I'd say go check it out. read more

This salon is definitely worth your time and experience. Being 5 months new to NYC and having yet to get my hair cut, I have been searching for places to go. Ironically enough, I happened upon a gentleman selling brochure packaged deals at the farmers market one day. I was in the mood to stop and listen and ended up signing up for it. There was a slight fear of hesitation, as though I'd wasted my money, signed up for a scam, etc. Regardless, I called and set up an appointment. It's a very warm atmosphere. They treated me as if I was a regular. They took may coat, offered me some hot tea (on a rainy morning - perfect!) I had misread my appointment time and arrived an hour late. I was very embarrassed and apologized. However, the front desk personal was more than forgiving and accommodating, assuring me it was alright. A few minutes later, Maria walked over and introduced herself. Maria took excellent care of me. She was an attentive listener when I told her what I wanted done, never once did she try to coerce me to do anything different. Which I really appreciated. I wanted to keep my length, just sharpen it up a bit to make it look healthy again. She started with one inch, showed me what that would look like. I told her to keep going; she cut another half of an inch off, showed me, and finally I told her she could go ahead and take the full 2 inches off. I really appreciated her patience in taking the time to go step by step. Having long hair, often times hair dressers will automatically take a whole bunch off, which is usually not what I'm asking for. Maria was wonderful, considerate and patient through the whole thing. Having long, very thick, and somewhat curly hair, I find it hard to find people who can style my hair they way I want it. I didn't even have to tell her, and she did a phenomenal job. She is classy, sophisticated, and takes pride in her work. As the solon got busier through the morning, you could tell that people felt very at home here and were comfortable with not only their personal stylist, but the other coworkers around them. I was very impressed with the over ambiance of the salon and the employees there, and even more so with the service that Maria gave me. I highly recommend giving this place a try. I was sold a two part deal in the street. The guy who sold it to me told me nothing about an additional $15 fee (which is actually *extra* on top of the $15 hidden fee, if you have what they consider to be "difficult hair" aka curly/ thick.) I never received a confirmation call for my appointment, so I called myself to make sure I still had one. Not a big deal but compiled with the other frustrations just added to the negative experience. The receptionist and staff were very nice, so was my stylist, Hyacinth, however I tried to be very clear about the haircut I wanted and I felt like she essentially ruined my bangs, made them way too short, cut the rest too short as well even though I told her just a trim on the bottom so the ends wouldn't curl outward. In her defense, she expressed that she had felt she'd done what I asked but I disagree and regret trusting her that she understood what I wanted. So, there was nothing left to be done at that point because she'd already gone too far. She also scratched my nose with her comb multiple times during the cut and banged my head with the hair dryer and spiral brush. I am aware that none of this was intentional but, like I said, it all compiled me just desperately wanting to get out of there and a bad experience. I know not every haircut can go as planned and I imagine a lot of customers are really hard to work with and/or are bad communicators. But I don't consider myself either one of those types of people and was left pretty disappointed with the end result as I had to ask her to stop cutting to end the haircut because it was already shorter than I wanted. read more

A stylist that claimed to work at this salon approached my friend and I and tried selling us the vouchers. She even called up the "manager" who seemed to be hiding in the corner, waiting for her cue. Since my friend and I have very curly and multi textured hair, they explained that they are very experienced with all types of hair and that it was a black owned salon. We were intrigued because we don't properly take care of our hair and prefer others to do it for us. They convinced my friend to pay $70 and I kept rejecting the deal because of how expensive it was. They eventually threw in what seemed to be a great deal. Since my friend payed $70, they'd sell me one for $20. I paid and went to the salon today. It didn't start out well because they were combing out my knots although my hair was completely dry. It hurt! Then everything else went smoothly until the end where I had to pay. I was charged $52 although it was supposed to be free. $15 service fee, $25 blow drying fee because my type of hair would take longer to blow dry, $10 extra cause my hair is different than their usual straight haired client, I guess. Plus $2 tax. I'm really not coming here again. I paid $72 in total. PLUS THEY DIDNT DO MY EDGES! It's not my fault that I have baby hair! read more

AWFUL. COMPLETE SCAM. I was stopped as I was reading in Bryant Park and the promoter at first made it seem like he was taking a survey. Tried saying no, but he was insistent. Paid 70$ for a package that stated it included "hair consultation, deep massage, hair cut, blow dry" and "manicure and waxing." What a rip off. There are many hidden costs, like if you want to use the whole package in one trip or that if you have "long" hair, you need to pay extra for a blowdry that IS CLEARLY LISTED IN THE PACKAGE. At every salon I've been to, they've always said my hair is so easy to work with. I've gone to far better salons for far better quality and far less expensive. I've never had to walk out of a salon with my hair HALF WET, neck sore from the "deep conditioning," and my layers are so choppy they look like I cut them myself. I asked for my hair not to be cut too short and for layers to start near my jaw line, but holy f, now I have weird short pieces in front. Honestly, I'm just glad my hair grows back fast. I just had the Keratin treatment done yesterday and WOW! What a difference I feel in my hair already! I booked the appointment with a Lifebooker loot for $99 - doesn't get better than that. I haven't had keratin treatments before, other than the at-home ones, which truly just don't work as the real thing. The great thing about the keratin treatment they use at this salon is that it's 100% formaldehyde free and you can wash it the same day...Which I did because this treatment leaves the hair with a bit of residue and feels heavy...I washed it last night and I couldn't believe my eyes and how silky my hair is. I believe this treatment is called Pravana. It did lighten up what's left of my ombre a little, but i'll take that over ugly hair! I am getting a toner/gloss done this weekend to make it darker for fall. I have terribly fried over-bleached and split ends due to a horrible ombre color done earlier this summer. Not only do I have dark brown almost black hair, but it was color treated (to cover up some grays) so the person who did my ombre earlier this summer stripped not only my color but my pigment......This treatment has made my hair soft, silky, easy to manage and FRIZZ FREE. No on to service....Hyacinth is just LOVELY. She is the owner of the salon and she is so gentle and really knows her stuff. She even offered to trim my hair (the dead ends) for free if I wasn't happy with the result of the keratin treatment. She offered me tea, had great conversation with her...I felt like we knew each other for a while! She made me feel comfortable and so welcome. I am DEFINITELY going back to her from now on. I don't understand the negative reviews because I got such great, personal and warm service. I've also read Maria is amazing, and Hyacinth (the owner) is also a stylist who has gotten great reviews. It's just a few blocks away from work which means I can run-in for a cut or color during my lunch hour...I'm so happy to have found this place!!!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!! read more

This is by far the worst salon I have been to. I came in on Saturday after buying a special in Union Square. I asked for a specific amount to be cut and a face frame. I was very clear that I did not want my hair shorter than specified. Hyacinth proceeded to bluntly chop my hair after putting it in a rubber band. I voiced hesitation that when she went to straighten it I would lose length. She assured me I would not. Well I did! In addition she did not cut my hair straight. It is so uneven it is an embarrassment. I have received multiple comments on how uneven it is. Also the face frame I asked for is non existent. In addition the salon tried to charge a long hair fee to blow out my hair which after the cut my hair was no longer long. I declined the blow out and asked that she just dry my hair so that I wouldn't get sick on my way home. Avoid this place at all costs!!! read more

This is strictly for their hair salon/services , not nails . Rocio is an amazing hair stylist and person , highly recommend her . I was a little weary since I initially booked a single process package through lifebooker which included a single process, cut, deep conditioner and blow out at a great price. I had seen great reviews for a stylist named Maria, so when I called to make my appointment I requested her but I was told that she was not a stylist that could be used for the lifebooker deal and I was assured that they had other stylists that were very good working with ethnic hair (I am Dominican and I have super curly /unruly hair, and tons of hair too ! ). I decided to go with it , and made the appointment on my actual Birthday , as I was going out to celebrate later that night. When I first arrived they were pretty busy, and I was feeling uneasy. However, the receptionist was friendly at check in , and she was also prompt. She paired me with Rocio , and I am super glad that she did. Rocio proceeded to introduce herself and she did consult with me to ask what I wanted done , she made sure to see what deal i had purchased , she looked closely at my hair and asked if she could take a before and after picture of me , and she proceeded to make some suggestions as to what she felt would be an ideal look for me given my appearance, facial structure , and hair texture etc. I had mentioned to Rocio that it was my Birthday , and she said that because of that she wanted to ensure that I had a wonderful hair transformation and experience. Rocio did recommend changes to the package that I brought , and it did result in an additional charge of $60 to add highlights . I did agree to it because once Rocio carefully took the time to explain her vision of my hair transformation, I was confident that her suggestion was a good one for me. I had hair color that was still growing out and so my ends were a blondish faded color , while all my new growth was my natural hair color black/deep brown. Rather than color my hair again as I initially thought , Rocio suggested covering the color at my ends that was growing out to match my natural hair color, and then adding some partial highlights in a natural warm tone to give the color more dimension but still create a natural look , almost like "Eva Longoria' she said , and she showed me a pic of Eva Longoria to demonstrate what she was talking about. It looked nice , so I agreed to it and put my trust in Rocio. Rocio was very efficient yet super friendly and talkative while she worked on my hair. She gave me some great inexpensive tips on how I could best take care of my hair and not let it get damaged even though it would have highlights and color. She didn't complain not once about my hair , even though I have a lot of hair and my hair can be challenging to work with. She took her time and checked in with me throughout letting me know how the process was going. She offered me water/something to drink as well while I was there. I did want to cut a significant amount of hair initially because I felt that my ends were damaged, however unlike most stylists who are scissor happy, Rocio recommended that I do not cut as much and get just a slightly layered trim as she said it would frame my face best and would still allow me the flexibility of being able to tie up my hair when I wear it curly , which is often. She told me that my hair was actually very healthy and that once the ends were covered with the natural color , the few split ends I had would be less visible. She was right !!! My hair came out amazing , and even other stylists in the salon congratulated Rocio on the amazing job she did with my hair . She posted the before and after pics , and I looked like a different person . Rocio has been in the business for about 20 yrs , and says that she prides herself in treating all her customers like royalty regardless of their income , source of payment (lifebooker voucher or cash, credit card etc. ) , ethnicity, or anything else. She gave me her card with her personal telephone number , and she didn't pressure me to come see her regularly , but stated for me to call her when I was ready to come back and that she was looking forward to working with me again. The only thing I am debating on is whether I should cut just a little bit more , since I wanted a more noticeable change with my hair length , but aside from that I was and still am very happy with my results and I got a ton of compliments on my birthday about how my hair looked , not to mention how soft and silky it was !!!! I have to say, my review would have been 2*s or max 3*s just based on the first 20 minutes at the salon alone. However, my stylist, Maria, did such a good job that I had to elevate the rating. I had a deal through lifebooker for a haircut and blow out. I was a bit scared reading some of the reviews on yelp. I arrived on time for my appointment, but had to wait 20 minutes for my stylist to finish up with her previous client. I really think that your stylist that they assign to you are based on your ethnicity...anyhow, the reason for my initial low rating was because another woman has walked into the salon spot 5 minutes after me and she was taken straight to the shampoo area after she put on the salon robe. At first I thought she was an employee since she seemed so familiar with the salon. However, when she was taken to the shampoo area, I realized that she was just a regular. The other thing that put me over the edge was that another stylist who was working with a client who was having a perm done was just sitting there READING a magazine while waiting for her client to be done at the electric hood. This is ALL while I'm still sitting there waiting for someone to start working on my hair. You can just imagine my frustration... My mood started to lift when Maria started to work on my hair. She did the shampooing herself and spent a lot of time working of my medium length hair. She took an hour just perfecting my hair cut. I really like the cut so Maria redeemed my frustration. Her service receives 4*s. I will return to this salon again if I get another deal on lifebooker and get Maria. Had some dude come up to me of 34th in front of sephora constantly asking me to buy this voucher of his and even though I repeatedly said no he would not stop until I bought one, he then said he would give me a deal of two for the price of one so I gave up and caved in, he then proceeded to ask for my number also saying it was for the salon or whatever then repeatedly hmu all thee time asking me to hang, blocked. So I went with a friend to get my hair cut, it was a nice environment, pretty decent, the lady was nice, got the cut whatever, but after a week i realized that my hair was completely uneven I am so upset over this please spend your money better and go somewhere else !!! read more

The one star is for the hair cut only. I had gotten a deal for Haircut and Blowout through Lifebooker. The only reason I went all the way to the city was for a nice blowout. I walked in smiling. It was my birthday and I was looking forward to beautiful bouncy hair. I liked that Hyacinth sat me down and asked what I wanted and then..the complaining started, your hairs too long, too thick. I have heard that before so brushed it off. Then the highlights, then the bangs then the hair again then she decided to leave for 10 mins. I sat there still smiling in my wet towel. Replying to birthday wishes on my phone. She came back complained, cut. I was slowly losing the smile. She went off for another 15 min. break. to eat lunch. Now I was running late for my own party. After the hair cut I showed a pic of a blowout I had gotten done before and loved. She cackled and said that she cant do that. Excuse me?Am I not paying u for this? I have had a blowout done like that before multiple times and it has never been a prob for my "thick" hair! She said she will try. Ok. I noticed right off her technique was completely different. Fine. I waited with clenched teeth. After she was done complaining about my bangs she grabbed the smock on me and walked off. I had to twist and turn to view my hair. Minuscule curls. Not at all what wanted. Clenched teeth. In tears. I just wanted to leave. The receptionist couldn't be bothered to get my coat so I bumbled around looking for it while she watched. I regret tipping her at all even though I had scaled it down. I walked out and remembered she had not applied any hairspray. I ran to Macys bathroom. Of course my hair was stick straight now. She took 2 1/2 hrs and now nothing to show for it. I sat through all that complaining for nothing! The whole reason I traveled all the way to the city was a I called her. She again complained about my thick hair. I cut her off and told her that's never been a prob before. She wanted more money for curls. Rrrright like I got my money's worth for the blowout. Never going back and telling all my friends the same Bottom Line-If you have thick hair, she has no idea how to deal with it and is rude to boot. read more

I hate giving 1 star reviews but this place really deserves it for a few reasons. First (and probably the most important) the stylist completely ruined by hair. I wanted a simple cut/trim and some side bangs. Nothing fancy, an average stylist could do it. He literally hacked away at my hair, I have never in 20 years had such a terrible hair cut in my life. My hair was unevenly cut, and my bangs were like a blob of hair poking out of my head. When I asked if he could fix it, he just made it worse sadly. Also, they charged me so many hidden fees. Before I started the cut I specifically told the receptionist and the stylist I dont want any extras so ask me 1st before doing anything. She charged me over $50 in extras, from some service fee to long hair fee to blow drying fee. Even though before he started to dry my hair I asked if it was extra and he said no. Then after when I was paying he just disappeared and the receptionist charged me all these extras. And just as a warning, they have a sign in their salon saying if you give them a good yelp review you get free products. So just be warned that their ratings are way over-estimated too. Stay away if you dont want to spend months growing out a terrible cut. read more

Great salon! I got one of the promotions in Bryant Park from a guy. I was a little suspicious at first but made an appointment. The first couple times I had to cancel but they were super understanding and they book very quickly so make sure you don't lose your time spot! I got my shampoo/conditioning , cut and blow dry by Hyacinth who gives AMAZING skull rubs and is very knowledgable about hair. She recommended some products to me and advised me ways I can decrease to not damage my hair being an athlete. Really good experience over all! read more

HADE THE WORST EXPERIENCE BUT DIDN'T EVEN GET THE SERVICE. Honestly I was really upset! I wanted to check this place out so I got a Groupon to see how the service will be. I made an appointment but I couldn't make it, I called them to let them know but know one answered so I left a voice mail. The following day I wanted to call for another appointment I checked my Groupon and it said REDEEMED. Mind you I never stepped foot into the salon. I called for an explanation she told me with an ATTITUDE "well since you didn't show up we went ahead and redeemed". When I told her I called she said we didn't get anything.
