Just a quick review of this place because I'm not sure what to say about it. The lack of other decent Italian style delis around Spitalfields makes this a good option for this kind of lunch food. And at five pounds for a sandwich and a reasonable sized salad bowl, this is a better value lunch than a lot of places in the area and left me feeling full. Though you could grab almost the same thing from a nearby Tesco Express for less.
There's a choice of about four different types of already made white bread rolls: fish fingers and salad, a tuna melt, roast beef, or the brie and turkey one which I went for. It was well made with a nice floury roll, lettuce that tasted crisp and fresh, more than one slice of turkey and some thick not-too-cheap-tasting brie smeared with just the right amount of cranberry sauce. It was a high quality sandwich, though there wasn't anything extra special or distinctive about it that would have made me really excited.
The tuna mayonnaise and pasta salad was similar. It was well made with a good balance of reasonable quality ingredients and not too much mayonnaise, but not doing anything that distinctive. The deli has quite a few other salads in big bowls that looked really fresh and I think might have been a bit more distinctive.
There are also Calzone pizzas and dishes with lasagne and pasta bakes which to me looked a bit small and prepared in advance (dried out?) but which might be good if heated up.
If you're looking to have lunch somewhere with a bit of atmosphere or comfort, then head somewhere else. Here you can either take your food away, or try to pick a place amongst the suited masses sitting on the picnic benches nearby. read more
