The bathroom was also super weird, narrow and awkward and so dark that you can't see anything. Of the 2 stalls only one of them had toilet paper in a little roll that wasn't even properly attached to the toilet paper holder. The overall vibe is loud, "club-like," and kind of ratchet, there was a table quite far away from us but the customers were so clearly drunk and loud that the entire restaurant could hear them. We haven't even gotten to the food-- which was below average all around. We had pre-ordered the typhoon crab in advance and it was very expensive, was so over-seasoned, and the crab was not fresh at all. The bbq roast pork (char siu) was okay but incredibly oily and we couldn't finish it. The only passable entree was the fish, but even that was just a steamed fish and nothing to write home about. The service was okay, nothing spectacular but polite enough. The other nice thing was that we got these cute little mah jong desserts and I liked that the outside wall of the restaurant was decorated in mah jong pieces. But overall, this restaurant was my least favorite during our Hong Kong trip and it's just overhyped.

Service is friendly and relatively efficient. But for this price point and the coveted Michelin star, I would expect more. The food quality is so-so. The chicken wings were tender but lacking in depth of flavor. Just salt and a ton of chili peppers. The char shu roasted pork was ok. It wasn't as greasy as others but it was also a bit dry. It was really no better than any other roasted pork we found at random restaurants all over HK. The crispy cheong fan noodles were a bit greasy but flavorful and different. Let's talk about pricing. We went on a Sunday night and we booked early so we did not have a minimum spend. But it seems any bookings now have an 800HKD/pp minimum. They slap a 10% service charge on everything and they basically require you to buy an 88HKD bottle of water. Sorry, they're just not that good.

Rather than take the escalator, there is an elevator that will take you directly up. If you like and/or familiar with Din Tai Fung than The Dining Room will appeal to you. Though the vibe is different. Comparable to the differences between a parent and child. DTF is classic and traditional. While The Dining Room seems to give off a young and modern Westernized feel. I visited The Dining Room not knowing anything about it. I stumbled across it after seeing a promotion in front for a duck breast with glass noodles special. After entering the restaurant, I noticed a nice dining room that would not seem out of place in Seattle. It has the farm to table restaurant look. The restaurant has an excellent view of the Causeway Bay area. I would recommend getting a table by the windows if you can. Like a child, the menu at The Dining Room is very playful. I was amazed by the plentiful menu options. There are the obvious favorites like xiaolongbao and shengjianbao. But also less typical items, particularly in the desserts section. Some are not even Chinese. Recall there being a Japanese marshmallow dessert on the menu. Tried four things. The aforementioned duck breast with glass noodles, organic Chinese greens (don't know the actual name), an order of shengjianbao and a Jasmine pudding. The duck breast with glass noodles is more of an appetizer. It was delicious, though beware that it is a bit spicy. The Chinese greens which were boiled was a nice veggie option. I have never had them before. It seemed like a cross between lettuce and choy sum. The shengjianbao were as expected tasty. Like xiaolongbao, there is a little soup inside. One order has four pieces which is great since it allows you to order other things. The smaller dish sizes is one nice advantage that The Dining Room has over DTF. Lastly, the jasmine pudding was a nice meal ender. It is creamy and not too sweet. Has a yogurt like consistency. The only thing was that they served the pudding along with the other items. I would have preferred if they waited till I was done with the other dishes first. But that would have meant ordering it later. The food here is reasonably priced, especially given the location. It was a little over $20 USD for lunch even after the 10% service surcharge, which is still less than I would pay at DTF in the Seattle area. If you are looking for great Shanghainese food with a nice view to boot in Hong Kong, check out The Dining Room in Causeway Bay.

Their famous Shanghai pork and crab dumplings were done in a delicacy. The skin was thin but yet able to hold the meat & juice without breaking. Although the decor does not mirror Eastern tradition setting, the place has an open and comfortable environment.

Just typing about it makes me salivate! The spices used in the grilled fish are exactly the type in China that makes your lips go numb after a while. Many places can "cheat" by making the presentation fancy with lots of peppers and cilantro on top when the fish can be small. But this place does not do that and instead serves up a sizable fish. (We had 12 people in our group and we were full.) This place is not cheap but in Hong Kong, you usually get what you paid for. This was one of our best meals on this trip to Hong Kong.

There are so many featured dishes on the menu that it's hard to try them all in one go, and I am definitely coming back to try more. I went with a group of 5, and still felt like there were a ton of dishes we wanted to try but were too full, so would definitely recommend coming here with a big group. The main stars of our meal were the spicy whole fish and Peking duck. I loved the spicy whole fish - you can choose the type of spice, as well as add on a variety of optional ingredients (e.g. Vegetables, tofu) to add to the fish as a sort of side, cooking in the flavorful sauce that comes with it. The fish comes in a huge metal tray with a fire lit under, so it is kept constantly steaming, and is so flavorful and juicy. The Peking duck was also solid. Besides those main dishes, we also ordered a variety of smaller dishes like skewers, vegetables to round out the meal. The place overall felt super hip, with a ton of young people, and I would recommend making a reservation to avoid the long long wait that seems to inevitably come with restaurants HKers collectively decide are trendy. I felt like this restaurant really lived up to its promise implied by its name of Farmer & Fish, serving up variety without sacrificing quality and being confusing.

After all, it's a comfortable place for lunch if you want to avoid the lunch crowd. An alternative to dining at the APM shopping center. Ambiance The decor is not what you will normally find in Hong Kong. The place is both a store and a restaurant with a very rustic decor. At the beginning it is hard to tell whether this is an antique store or a diner. The staff there were all very young. We were sat down by the window but elected to move away of that noisy air conditioner. The menu offers salad, pizza risotto pasta and steak. Nothing too exotic will be found. As a first visit I ordered a capsicum pepperoni pizza which was very amateurish looking. The pizza dough is more like flattened Italian bread stick. And the pepperoni was ....btw what kind of cheese was that? Anyway not a good start. For a minute I thought to myself just leave. My friend had a pumpkin soup which was OK but no better than the one I made from a can at home. Next was a fungus black truffle risotto. Given my highly compressed expectation by now this risotto turned out to be ok. It arrived with a pleasant aroma and the risotto was of a near perfect texture. It kind of saved the whole experience singlehandedly. We end the meal with a funny looking tiramisu. For a good minute I thought it was a donut sprinkled with chocolate powder. Whoever came up with this had never ever tried a proper tiramisu before. I tasted neither any mascarpone nor rum. This tiramisu was a joke and deserved a 0/10. Overall food 1/10 service 3/10 and price 2/10.
