Hidden amongst the factory buildings in Kwun Tong is a restaurant that is rather unconventional- in…read morethe sense that its supposed to be a "canteen" rather than restaurant. In the past HK's licensing rules would allow "canteens" to serve specific companies/ buildings and this was rather prevalent in the Kwun Tong area. As Kwun Tong developed and shed its factory roots, many restaurants began serving outsiders and the variety changed from the usual sauce on a whole heap of rice to something a bit niche. Factory 99 would be impossible to find if you didn't know what you were looking for. They are not allowed to have a massive billboard and/or the usual signs showing that there's a restaurant inside; instead you go up a flight of stairs to the first floor where you will be greeted by a rather well decorated restaurant with a lot of US mock billboards from 1950s (you will know what I mean when you get there). The food itself changes everyday but the general offerings include baked rice of all sorts, burgers and steaks. You can say its trying to mimic a diner but I guess they are just trying to serve whatever they find to be popular. For the princely sum of 60 HKD you get a full set of soup (the usual red/white/ Chinese), the main course and a drink. The fact that its rather tasty is an absolute bonus; because in most cases expectations are rather low and I think this place has exceeded it by far. I wouldn't all the way for it, but if you are in the area then you should give it a try.

It's not too hard to find, as there are plenty of signage leading from the front of the industrial looking building. After a short flight of stairs, you turn into the well decorated, comfortable interior of the cafe that's a nice escape from the hustle and bustle outside. On the weekday afternoon I was there, the place was packed with people on their lunch break from their offices. Nevertheless, I was able to get a table. The place was well lit, with a clean design that feels quite comfortable even when it's packed. I ordered the lunch set, which comes with soup (cream of mushroom), garlic bread, an entree of your choice and a drink (ranges from ~HKD 60 - 120ish, which isn't bad at all!) I also really appreciated that they had a designated healthy entree option (with the number of calories listed), since I'm trying to eat healthy. The mushroom soup was decent and tastes homemade, although could be a little thicker in my opinion. I got the healthy entree option, which is brown rice with grilled chicken and an okra salad. The okra gave the salad such a nice refreshing touch in terms of novelty, and was well dressed. Chicken could be a tad bit more juicy but had the delicious grilled flavor, and I enjoyed the sesame-based sauce on it - plus I actually felt super healthy eating it! On the top floor of…read moreK11, Good Place - unlike other restaurants with names like "Lucky Top Restaurant", "Celestial Curry", or "Super Duper Number One - POW!" - Good Place actually lives up to its name: it doesn't tout itself as stratospherically great, but it's better than OK - it's quite GOOD. Came here three times in two weeks for a casual business lunch. Being on the top floor and a little more expensive than a greasy spoon, this place never became terribly crowded nor noisy, even during peak lunch hours. Decor is crafted textured light pine wooden bench seating in an open space with little distance between tables. Every table has a jug of water and two glasses. Lunch menu has several set meal options - all meat filled - as well as a la carte. The emphasis is on healthy dining with simple ingredients. The set meals - a panko style fried pork cutlet, halibut with greens, and something steak like - all range from about HKD84 to HKD88. Each set meal comes with a soup and after lunch beverage of coffee/tea/lemon water. You also have a choice of white or five-grain rice. The cutlet was nicely-breaded and fried and substantial enough for me for a lunch meal. The palm-sized halibut fillet, which seemed it had been a little over-frozen and kind of mushy, despite the nice subtle sauce - is not enough food for someone over the age of 4. The hefty bowls of rice make up for the lack of the main...or are SUPPOSED TO, however. Being that it's a set menu at HK$90 or less we couldn't really complain. If you order a la carte - and there is a good selection of meats and pastas - there are many other satisfying options. On one occasion, a diner at the table next to us had a Flintstone-size steak that would make you want to loosen the buttons on your pants and yell, WILLLLMMAAAAA! The steak came with a few obligatory vegetables, and the man - who was not much larger than the steak itself - wolfed it down within 10 minutes. Good place. Good grief.
