We ordered Chicken Sorrentino and Angel Hair with Meatballs. What we got was chicken Florentine and spaghetti with meatballs. And to boot! The pasta was mushy and overlooked. When I called to tell them the order was incorrect, the owner got on the phone to tell me it must have been my error in ordering as her employee has been there for 6 years. I asked for a refund, she told me she could bring another entree in 45 minutes or a credit for next time. At this point, I am not sure we will be ordering so I said neither worked. She got really unprofessional and was blaming her employees error on us. The order was wrong and all she needed to do was apologize and fix the problem. All restaurants make mistakes and that is ok. It is how you treat your customers that matter... especially ones that are frequent patrons. They did not treat us right. We will not be back. And if our card is not credited, we will dispute the whole bill as we did not get what we ordered.

I heard some mixed reviews of the restaurant from family and friends so, of course, I needed to formulate my own opinion. When we first entered the tavern, I truly thought it was a seat yourself kinda spot...there was no one who greeted us at the door... everyone looked kind of lost, like they were ALL new. Restaurant was rather empty at this point, so we weren't sure if they were just opening or if they were in the middle of a shift change. We waited 10 minutes to be seated, then another 10 min waiting for servers to figure out who was taking our table. All the servers seemed to look to this one dude for answers but he also didn't seem to know what he was doing. Seems strange for a restaurant not to have designated staff manage the front of the house...or some sort of a plan. Nonetheless, our server was really nice - she greeted us with a smile and got our first round of drinks to the table right away! I wish I remembered her name! I believe she wore glasses. Since we were a little bit of a larger party, we sat outside. That just meant we weren't really a priority. So if you go there...sit inside, or else they might forget about you. No fault of the servers! The organization just seems funky. That can definitely make or break a restaurant. All in all, drinks were good, food was mid, and service was decent but unorganized. I'd come back only because I'm a glutton for punishment and I have too much faith. So take this the way you want!

Country setting with horse and goat to entertain. Food was impeccable, and each course was presented with an elegant flare. It does take at least four hours. There is so much food. Service was excellent and a tour and history of the Cavallo's and restaurant founder Shirley Cavallo, had a charm to it. It's hard to believe that this wonderful establishment has been around for 50 years. This is not your grandmother's restaurant, this is an experience. I really appreciate the fact that it is BYOB, we saved money on a bar tab. Finally the kitchen is the cleanest I have ever saw in a restaurant. Congratulations to Chef Brondo. From the moment we sat down, it was clear this wasn't just dinner -- it was an experience. The bread alone was award-winning quality. The squash harvest soup was absolutely amazing -- rich, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. It was a five-course meal, and every course delivered. The cheese and cherry ravioli was an incredible sweet-and-savory combination that had me savoring every bite. The roasted duck had unique, complex flavors and was definitely delicious. I also tried a bit of the shrimp -- even though I passed most of it off -- and it was excellent. And dessert? I don't even know exactly what it was, but it was outstanding. What really sets this place apart is the full experience. We were given a tour of the property and learned about the incredible history of the building. Barry, our waiter and tour guide, was absolutely incredible -- attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about the restaurant. The private tour and the information he shared made the night even more special. We also had the privilege of meeting the owner and chef, Brondo. He was a pleasure to meet -- very cool guy and an exceptional chef. Everything about La Locanda Del Cavallo is on point: Great service Great atmosphere Great people Must-try food While the food was fantastic, the entire experience is what makes it truly unique. Highly, highly, highly recommend.

Great atmosphere! Great host!! Great food!!!…read more Pretty place with tables very well separated and the appropriate Italian music playing over the speakers. Make sure to say hello to the owner. Francesco's love of food is both obvious and contagious. Now, on to the food. We started with a very heart chicken and noodle soup that was chock full of chunks of chicken and extremely tasty. For a starter we had perogies which are served Italian style with sautéed spinach and red peppers on top. My friend's all had the day's special risotto which was a shrimp risotto. The shrimp were extremely large as was the entire portion. They each took some home. As my main I had the Italian Cold Antipasto which contained three very fresh meats and three delicious cheeses with a marinated mushroom salad in the center of the plate. The cheeses were particularly special, most notably the burrata and the sharp provolone. For dessert we shared a plate of apples and cheese as well as some slices of a white cream cake with fruit. All very fresh and very tasty. As this wasn't enough, one of my friends who had been there before, took a tomato pie home telling me that their pizza is delicious. Despite the distance I already have plans to go back in a few weeks.

I judge Italian restaurants by their marinara sauce and their eggplant dishes, such Rollatini or…read moreParmesan. Their gravy is what a good marinara should be; not over spiced, with the tomato taste bursting through. They nail it. Their eggplant is well prepared; never greasy, and obviously salted and soaked to get the bitters out. It shines through in any eggplant dish they serve. Over the years I've probably tried two dozen dishes, including fra diavlo. All were great. In New Jersey, no matter where you live. You likely have multiple choices nearby for Italian food. La Bella Villa is a shoulder above the rest. Sal aims to please, and he will often trek out of the kitchen and visit your table with a hearty greeting. And, the restaurant is lively, but never too noisy. The ambience adds to the restaurant. Many restaurants, for some reason, insist on playing loud music, often with a strong beat. It's impossible to carry on a conversation in these restaurants. We've crossed many restaurants off of our list that were otherwise very good due to loud music.

I ordered cavatelli with "meat sauce".....received what was called Bolognese sauce. The dish was swimming in a pink-colored "vodka" like sauce with ground meat in it. Again more of a vodka sauce - not really a good hearty Bolognese - not good at all. My son ordered veal Milanese. The veal cutlet again was swimming in sauce and rather soggy. The marinara sauce on the side of pasta was way too acidic.....it drives me crazy how many "Italian" restaurants get the sauce completely wrong. My wife got a pizza - equally terrible. The sauce again was way too acidic, way too salty and bland. I would also say that all of our dishes were rather bland on top of everything else.
