The woman working went to the back to fry the cheese and prepare the rest of the meal, and my food was ready in about 7 minutes. The restaurant was clean, and the service was friendly. The Tres Golpes comes with mangú (mashed green plantains), fried cheese, Dominican salami, and sautéed onions. The combination of flavors is satisfying, and it's definitely a filling breakfast. That said, I paid $19 for this breakfast with a lime juice. While it was fresh and a good portion, I've had better Tres Golpes at other Dominican restaurants. Overall, it was a decent meal. If you're looking for authentic Dominican food in downtown Middletown, it's still worth giving them a try and deciding for yourself.

This review is not the easiest for me to write. I have been coming to the Little Columbian…read morerestaurant since 2015. I loved this place, their food was fantastic and the quality was super consistent; an excellent spot to get together with friends or a date. So much attention to detail was paid, house made dressing, salsa, all ingredients were super fresh, the meats were always cooked excellently, and the staff was friendly. I hadn't been to the restaurant in a while but at some point in the last few years the Little Columbian restaurant became My little Columbian restaurant. My friends and I went there for dinner at the end of October, there was one couple that was leaving the restaurant but we were the only ones there when we first walked in. The vibe of the restaurant has changed because they changed how they decorated the interior of the restaurant. I prefer their older vibe but no big deal. Our waitress was nice and very attentive all night and the staff in general was quite friendly. Here's my issue, the food quality is not as good as it was in the past. And if they are going to charge along the same lines as what they have, always been on the pricier side, then the quality should still be at the same level. There were a bunch of little things that added up. To start, the salad I ordered didn't have the same quality of greens (I think they used a spring mix in the past), there were some small bits of core in the salad. More to my disappointment the Salad dressing was no longer the house dressing they used to make it was Ken's balsamic dressing, which generally tastes like diabetes syrup. Maybe it was an off night for the salad and I could live with that but the lack of the old house dressing was disappointing. Speaking of cutting corners, the chimichuri used to be super fresh and of good quality ingredients. The chimichuri this time around had a lower quality olive oil and the parsley was dried instead of fresh. My friend ordered some empanadas, which were partially burnt and again the slasa wasn't the same quality as they used to make with the empanadas. For an entree, I ordered Bandeja Columbiana. The chicharon was a bit overdone but ok enough. The chorizo was probably the best part but you have to try to mess up chorizo. The maduro was kind of dry and somewhat bland. The chicken was a touch rubbery and the steak was fine; nothing to write home about. As I had mentioned before the food wasn't terrible, it was fine enough but it was not worth the price it cost. Much worse is the fact that the quality in general just isn't the same as it had been prior, maybe they just had an off night but something tells me this is how it is now. It's too bad this restaurant isn't quite what it was; it used to be one of my favorites.

There is a nice bar set up with plenty of dining seating We started off with white wine, sangrias, a mango margarita, and a mango jalapeño, margarita. We got chips and salsa and tableside guacamole made right in front of us! The salsa came out, warm, which I wasn't used to, but it was very good. It reminded me of the habichuelas (beans) when you make spanish white rice and beans. There were also fried plantains mixed in with the chips, which was a nice treat. I got the tacos de birria and a side of tostones and others got steak fajitas, a chicken quesadilla, and tostadas de carne. All of the food came out fresh and everything was very good. Our server was very friendly in accommodating and made the night flow easily. The bar was bit backed up, so our drinks took a while, but everything came out as it should.

I loved the chips served with three different salsa/dipping options. One is hot! I won't tell you which one, why ruin the fun? I ordered the shrimp and mushroom quesadilla in corn tortillas. My husband had a pork burrito. I skipped the refried beans only because I didn't know if they were vegetarian safe. The margaritas were refreshing and had more of a natural orange flavor rather than that heavy, syrupy fake-lime taste--which I really appreciated! It's a little bit of a drive for us to get there, but the food was delicious enough that we'll definitely be back. The bathroom was also clean, which is always a plus! I love the Mexican music that was playing in the background too.

It is the kind of place where you can settle in, enjoy a delicious meal, listen to great music, and truly have a memorable night out. The background music made the experience even better, with Chayanne's "Bailando Bachata," Romeo Santos, Nicky Jam, and other amazing Latin artists creating the perfect upbeat, feel-good vibe. The service was exceptional from start to finish. Our waitress, Angie, was wonderful--friendly, professional, and incredibly attentive. She made sure we had everything we needed and checked in throughout the meal without ever making us feel rushed. The entire staff was welcoming and attentive, which made the experience feel even more special. We began with the Empanadas de Queso, and they were easily a perfect 10! They were fried to a beautiful golden crisp without being overcooked, with a light, flaky exterior and a warm, perfectly blended cheese filling. The cheese was savory, creamy, and melted perfectly with every bite. The sauce served on the side was the extra touch that took them to another level--so flavorful and delicious that it left us wishing there was more. This appetizer is an absolute must-order. The Yuca Bites were another highlight. They were crispy on the outside while remaining soft, warm, and tender inside. The seasoning was just right--flavorful without overpowering the natural, comforting taste of the yuca. Every bite had a satisfying crunch followed by a smooth, buttery texture, making them incredibly easy to keep reaching for. They were simple, well prepared, and full of delicious flavor. The Rice and Green Pigeon Peas was also very good. It was not the traditional Puerto Rican-style rice and peas, but it had its own delicious flavor and character. The rice was fluffy, nicely seasoned, and complemented by the hearty, earthy taste of the green pigeon peas. It was a satisfying side that paired beautifully with the rest of the meal. The Salmon Fettuccini was outstanding. The salmon was cooked perfectly--tender, moist, and flaky, never dry or overdone. It blended beautifully with the fettuccini and flavorful sauce, creating a comforting dish with a wonderful balance of creamy pasta, savory seasoning, and fresh salmon. The flavors came together so well that every forkful was just as enjoyable as the first. For dessert, we had the Tres Leches and Bread Pudding with Vanilla Ice Cream. The portions were on the smaller side, but they were still absolutely delicious and the perfect sweet ending to the meal. The Tres Leches was moist, soft, and wonderfully rich, with that classic sweet, milky flavor that melts in your mouth. The Bread Pudding was warm, comforting, and full of sweet, spiced flavor, while the scoop of vanilla ice cream added a smooth, creamy contrast as it slowly melted over the top. Both desserts were satisfying and definitely worth ordering. Overall, MamaJuana Cafe delivered an amazing dining experience. The food was delicious, the service was impeccable, and the music and atmosphere made the night feel fun and memorable. Angie and the staff made us feel genuinely welcomed and well cared for. We are already planning our return and cannot wait to go back on a night when the DJ is there for an even more energetic and festive experience. If you are looking for flavorful food, attentive service, great Latin music, and a welcoming atmosphere in Waterbury, MamaJuana Cafe is a place you absolutely need to experience!
