Super professional, knowledgable and kind. Not sure what else you need in a physician. She's the bomb.

This review is about Dr. Myriam Loyo…read more Don't waste your money! I drove all the way from Central Oregon to have a 5 minute consult which is $110! No insurance... all out of pocket for me. She spent about five minutes, no more than 10 for sure and immediately said that she would recommend seeing her partner. Dr. Wang who has a lot more experience. She was going to go grab him to see if he was available and bring him right in. At no time did she say it would be an additional $110 fee. About five minutes later, she came back to say he just started surgery but if I was willing to wait about three hours that I would be able to see him again no mention of anything additional cost. I had driven all the way from Central Oregon so I decided to stay and wait around for the doctor to finish his surgery About two hours later, the receptionist called me to confirm the appointment time with him and oh by the way, there's an additional $110 fee. Unbelievable!!! I felt completely taken advantage of the doctor hadn't spent more than five minutes with me no pictures ...hardly any discussion about future surgery etc. She wanted him to see me. It was her suggestion and her recommendation . The whole office seemed unprofessional and unprepared and disorganized. One didn't know what the other was doing etc.. I disputed the additional charge because I felt the doctor should have told me there was additional fee at the time because I could choose whether or not I wanted to waste my time instead, I waited an additional two hours. I felt that this should be on her and the fee should've been waived or comped because she literally spent less than five minutes with me before telling me I should see her partner Dr. Wang and suggesting her partner should see me which was supposed to be right away, except he wasn't available. To think they would have charged me an additional $110 even after the fact that I had just spent five minutes with her is absolutely ridiculous. They did not consider waiving the fee even after I voiced my concerns and how unprofessional and how this was her mistake that she should have told me before hand. I feel it was a complete waste of my day taking off work, traveling all the way to Portland for them to try and scam more money off of me. Maybe they're used to doing whatever they want and charging whatever ridiculous prices they do because insurance covers everything but when you don't have insurance, that is a lot of money to me for five minutes of her time in which she then recommends seen her partner and audacity of charging $110 for Ann other 5 minutes of his time??? I was so upset with the way that they handled this and I will recommend you not even bother to see her especially if you're paying out-of-pocket. Don't waste your time and don't bother . They should have made it right. I gave them ample opportunity to do so but they did not so I am a person of my word and I told him I would give a bad review as a result of them mismanaging this situation. Extremely disappointing and unprofessional

She apologized for not being more clear, explained everything and generally had a great beside manner. The hall that did intake and put numbing cream on this time has a lovely, sweet, calm presence, quite different from the guy last time. My advice? Ask lots of questions, and get a prescription for a few tablets of a prescription painkiller for the actual treatment, you won't need anything after. I did and this second treatment, while it used more power and density of coverage, was pretty easy to handle.

Initially they told me I wouldn't be seen until June, which at this point was four months out, and my surgery would be in late Summer. I figured this might be normal for medical doctors since I've never had surgery before. Turns out, booking clients months away from the original contact date isn't so common (I discovered this after looking into other surgeons). Anyways, after our original appointment date, she has rescheduled just my CONSULTATION 5 times now. I still haven't seen her in person yet because of her taking vacation days and "having a busy schedule." I definitely contacted her way before any other clients who have surgery dates at the beginning of 2017. I know for a fact because one of my friends who is seeking the same surgery contacted her in July of 2016 and was put on pretty much the same timeline that they wanted to put me on now (Consultation in September, surgery early 2017). It has been more than half a year now since I initially contacted her team and I've never even spoke with Juliana. I've only ever got her admins on the phone, which was always to change my appointment time to make it more "convenient" for them. If they are THIS willing to push client's needs aside for vacation days and other miscellaneous events, it has made me severely hesitant and apprehensive to have her perform my surgery. She'd probably just make my boobs whichever way she wanted and not take my thoughts into account just because that would be "convenient" for her. The last admin I talked to literally told me to try a different hospital, and guess what? I am! Here's to losing thousands of dollars, Juliana and your "experts."

This is my first Yelp review, and I hope it will help other Portlanders avoid what I've experienced…read morewith this provider. While he is capable of a friendly bedside manner, his host of administrative issues and ethically questionable billing practices negatively impacted me--and my health. I would advise others to seek another primary care provider. I scheduled a wellness visit with Shay (Dr. Hosseinion's first name) online a year ago after moving to Portland. During this first visit, we talked through my medical history and he also refilled two existing prescriptions from my prior MD. No physical exam beyond listening to heart/lungs. He wrote me a letter for my employer stating that he had seen me "for an annual wellness visit." Finally, he ordered a single blood test; I declined the standard panel. After the appointment, he billed my insurance company for $390. I wrote to ask about this--my last handful of wellness exams/physicals were covered at 100%--and he told me the care I received was defined as a "problem visit," offering to see me for a second visit to use the wellness exam benefit. I spoke with my insurance company, who confirmed the visit should have been billed as a wellness appointment plus an additional code for extra services. I contacted Shay's offsite billing office to request this change. I was willing to pay for the appointment, but believed it was billed improperly, resulting in an unfairly high balance left to me. It took one year of calls every month or two to get a response: No, he will not change the billing to include the wellness code or compromise on the balance. Why did it take so long to get a response? Per the billing office rep: "There's nothing we could do. We're not in his office. He's very hard to reach." In the meantime, I decided not to return for a second "wellness" visit, as Shay suggested, after my insurance company told me that getting lab results but billing for a wellness visit would be fraudulent. Instead, I waited a month, then requested a copy of my lab results three times in December. And again on Jan 4th. And again on Jan 10th. Finally, I called the lab, where a tech assured me the results were delivered to Shay in late November, less than 24 hours after the test. I sent Shay an email expressing my dismay at the wait; he did not apologize, but said they'd mail me a copy. I waited another couple weeks. When it didn't arrive, an assistant told me it was lost in the mail. I finally went to the office in person and got a paper copy. In the midst of this, the billing office told me part of the reason I wasn't receiving an invoice was because they had the wrong address on file for me - received from Shay's office (which had a copy of my driver's license). In any case, the labs showed a treatable medical issue -- something I would have liked to have known about ASAP. All told, it took me about two months to get that piece of paper. About six months later, and some eight months after the initial appointment, I got an email from Shay. He said he had my lab results and asked me to schedule an appointment. He said he found a problem in them. I would have appreciated more timely, accurate and honest communication from this physician and his assistant regarding billing and my lab results. I could have been informed during my visit that the wellness billing code would not be used in any way (using it plus another code could have, per the insurance company, mitigated some of the cost). Because such communication was lacking (and because this doctor wrote a letter to the opposite effect), I think some compromise on the final balance due would have been fair. Shay had paperwork explaining that refilling prescriptions could result in additional billing, but I could not have predicted that the entire visit would be coded to the maximum possible reimbursement. I think it is unfair to expect lay people to have this level of knowledge, particularly as there is a variance among providers in billing practices for these visits. At the least, I would have expected timely communication of my lab result. I would have begun taking a needed supplement months earlier if I had seen my lab results, and would have appreciated a simple acknowledgement that my health was comprised when I didn't receive it. For what it's worth, I paid my bill in full before submitting this review, and within days of hearing back from the billing office.

I had a recent visit with Dr. Shay and was reminded of the many reasons why I have stayed with him…read moreas my primary doctor for all these years--his fair assessment of my complaints ( physically, emotionally) and what is best needed for them, which may not be what one might expect. I go to a doctor to tell me things that I am not able to know without their help! But sometimes, it's about validating what I already know is true: When I wanted a prescription for a UTI, he reminded me that I already knew exactly what to do ( I am an herbalist)---and I confessed I was worried that I wouldn't be able to completely remedy it before traveling. SO he agreed to give me a prescription for an antibiotic for peace of mind, and guess what? It worked. I didn't need the antibiotics ultimately, but having his support helped me stay on the herbs and get better. As demonstrated in the above example, I have always felt that he listens very well to my concerns about any aspect of our visit, and modifies his approach if its appropriate, in regards to my feedback. The result is a feeling of a real collaborative partnership in my sense of health, my sense of well-being. He runs a unique, very small business, and is a unique thinker-healer-doctor-- which creates a different feel than a "typical" doctors office ( like him rolling up on his skateboard for our appointment! The best start to a visit!) but, despite some of the home-spun, DIY qualities, it has never lacked the overall professionalism of getting through all the steps of an appointment: From setting up appointment times, reminding, interpreting lab results, making decisions about what's next or referrals, paying co-pays and billing insurance---all has gone smoothly, and faster and less hassle/issues than I have had with any other medical office. He even was able to mail a prescription to me when I was far away from Portland, and needing his help---and FAST!
