I walked in and felt as if through the front door I was magically transported to some awesome market or grocery store in a Spanish speaking country. I like it! I lived in Ecuador down in South America for some time years ago doing some volunteer work over there. I also travel to Mex every chance I get..... before the covid times. So I do very much have a fondness for establishments that remind me of places I've visited in other countries. I don't have some kind of specific product or anything like that to highlight. I just overall liked the experience of being at Mi Tienda. Has a great vibe to it in my opinion. I'll be back at some point to hang around here and see what interesting food finds I can pick up. Love it! Friendly staff and they have exceptional extras like the cook to order tacos!

My boyfriend and I got tacos and my mom ordered a plate. The rice and beans were alright. Tacos were OK. Barbacoa was good, Al pastor was okay. It was cheap, but won't be getting anything other than the barbacoa next time. The agua frescas were absolutely delicious. My mom got pistachio, so creamy and yummy. I got the horchata and it was perfect. My boyfriend got sandía and it tasted so fresh and fruity. The real star of the show was the elote that they sell outside at the front. Honestly, BEST elote in Houston. And we got taki's on top for $6. We will be back just for the elote. The pan dulces and conchas were delicious too. read more

Disclaimer: This is not your typical grocery store. This is more of an H.E.B. married a Fiesta Mart and had the cutest baby grocery store you've ever visited. In case that didn't paint a good enough picture for you... this is basically a Mexican Target. You will leave with items you didn't even know you needed or wanted. I am fluent in Spanish so I can't honestly say that if you weren't you could easily distinguish the items sold here. That being said, Latinos are NOT the only shoppers that frequent this location so being a Houstonian has to play some kind of hand in the familiarity of the items right? My mom purchased this cake for me today and as we were eating it, my grandmother bit into a FUCKING STAPLE!!!! My mom called and they hung up on her twice. She called again and spoke to someone that was completely indifferent, unapologetic and hell bent on us taking them the cake to prove it-- as if we would lie about something like this. She kept denying their use of a stapler in the bakery but I have seen with my own eyes, them staple receipts, etc. We buy cakes from this place quite a few times a year but this was the last fucking time. Something could've happened to my grandmother! Fuck this place! I would leave ZERO stars if possible! read more

I'm a fan of one stop shopping at places that have everything from motor oil to groceries. Unfortunately, because I'm a bit anti Wal-Mart, I find myself making multiple trips to a variety of places. At the very least, it's a reason for me to explore more of the area. And that's how I happened upon this little gem of a place. First impression: they have a chicharron bar! Ok, I don't know if that's what it's called, but it's an awesome display of deliciously fried pork skins and yes, I made sure to take some home. It's part of the restaurant in the store that serves all sorts of tasty treats that I hope to be able to partake in next time I visit. My primary reason to visit was to check out the produce. I was hoping to find a better array and more variety than I've been seeing on my other shopping trips at other grocery stores. Definitely found some good stuff: perfectly ripe papayas and mangoes, guavas, plantains, chayote and chiles, oh my! Fresh aguas frescas. Gorditas de azucar and churros near the exit. Elotes at the outdoor stand. Definitely spoiled my appetite for dinner that night. Next time I'll just eat my dinner there. read more

This is deep Mexico with no need for a passport! This is much more than a store. It is more like a bazaar. It is definitely a pleasant cultural experience. Fiesta is good but this seems much more authentic. I love the experience! Everything you expect in a large grocery store with the exception of their AWESOME bakery. Yesterday I went there to do some shopping and decided to get lunch. I ordered the Chile relleno and while it was breaded which I like there was no sauce on it, just dry looking. The poblano pepper was raw and they stuffed it with 1/2 pound of cheese which was not even melted. I asked for a plastic knife and the lady says, we don't have any. What? How am I supposed to eat that dish. Additionally, when I paid for my food I had asked about a straw fir my drink and the young man at the cash register just motioned to me and said"over there." Over there where? Needless to say they do not have good customer service. I decided to ask for a manager and told her that I was actually in the store and she could easily see what I was complaining about. She did come by, a very nice person and was very apologetic. She comped my food and asked me if I wanted something else. I did take her offer and I decided to get two tacos which were good. I would give them 4 stars but they need to have more customer sensitivity training and teach their employees to be courteous and helpful to customers. The employees appear to be unhappy with their jobs. Come on HEB don't forget about Mi Tienda! read more

They carry masa preparada in different flavors for your tortilla and tamale hankering. There's a cheese section where you can buy all of your staples such as Cotija, Oaxaca, Fresco, and Crema. You can also buy prepared foods in the "deli" section such as fajitas, shrimp cocktails, carnitas, tacos, and burritos. Need to feed the family and don't feel like cooking? Pick up the family special for $10.99... you'll get 2 charbroiled chickens (made right in front of you), a family sized rice and beans, and a dozen tortillas. Mi Tienda is owned by H-E-B and they did an amazing job at making this place feel just like "Mejico." I will tell you this, the place is huge and has a lot of different stands where they sell natural juices (really called aguas frescas, which translate to fresh waters), Mexican food, cooked meats, a bakery and whatever your Mexican heart desires. I know, I know.. I'm not Mexican but I feel Mexican at Mi Tienda! As you walk into Mi Tienda you can usually hear the music before actually entering the super market, oh right, did I mention this place is a super maket!?? Or to better say: Super Mercado. The Mariachi music playing is the first thing that transports you to the land of Mexico and I hope you don't mind that it is SUPER LOUD! If the Piñatas, tortilla stand, elotes stand, Mexican products do not make you feel like you are in Mexico, all the people greeting you in Spanish will! If you still don't feel like you are in Mexico, then there is something wrong with you! lol, ok.. or maybe your imagination has left you for good(therapy should help? maybe?!). I usually go to Mi Tienda for Breakfast Tacos, which cost $.50 for the first 6 and $1.69 there after. I believe the corn tacos are fifty cents but the flour are seventy five. Tacos taste great! Only complaint is that they take forever to complete your order. They are also nice enough to take advanced orders. Sometimes I forget I'm in the states and start looking for pesos in my purse to pay the bill !! I kid, I kid. I love this place and the culture in there is awesome. They don't care about cheating their customers, obviously. I had quite a time getting the sale price for something I found in a large bin on my way in the store. Even the bagger had a picture in his phone, obviously because he'd had to verify that before. The supervisor came by and she was quite rude. She explained that the 5 for 1 garlic hadn't been entered into the system and that was why I was being charged $1.67 for 5. When I tried to say something, she asked me to let her finish. Great customer service! So I wonder how many poor families who don't check their receipts had the pay the non sale price. Way to go guys! read more

I heard about this supermarket through a friend and honestly thought it was just a typical grocery store. I was in for a surprise! I came here mainly for the fresh elotes sold by a booth right outside the supermarket. I was mouth-blown by the freshness of the corn because it came straight from the cob. This is the ONLY booth that I can find that uses fresh corn. The elotes is plain with a small spread of butter on top. There is a condiment section where you can add your own mayo, lime juice, hot sauce, cheese, chilli powder, and lemon pepper seasoning. The BEST DIY elotes in the Houston/Pasadena area! The supermarket is special because it has a couple of mini Mexican restaurants inside along with a small cafeteria to enhance your dining experience. They even have a small tamales cart!!! In the same area, you can find fresh baked bread, homemade pork rinds, and tortillas. The tamales cart: I tried the chicken and the corn tamales. The chicken tamales is SPICY although I am baffled to where the spiciness is coming from. They grind/mix the chicken so well that I don't see any jalapenos/peppers. The corn tamales is sweet and makes me feel like I am eating cornbread. The price was about $1.50 for each tamales. Candy: I went a little crazy in the candy aisle. I got some dried apples and dried mangoes seasoned with Mexican lucas-like chili powder. It was delicious!!! Trader Joe's used to be my favorite place to buy chili dried mango but I found a new place for that! I also got the gummy watermelon soaked in the same seasoning. I didn't like it as much since it was too chewy for my liking. If you're looking for ingredients to make any Mexican/Hispanic recipes; I think you should come here! read more

Mi Tienda stores don't cease to amaze me. And I really have't gone through the whole grocery store. I've basically just visited afer working in the area to get an "agua fresca." Aguas frescas are those fresh fruit drinks in the huge glass containers. Being a Saturday and lunchtime, there were plenty of customers buying tamales, roasted chicken, bakery goods, tacos, cheese, fruits, you name it. I bought a taco and was served by a gentleman from the Dominican Republic. Employees have tags with their first name and country they're from. Honestly, I wouldn't expect to find someone from the D.R. working in Mi Tienda in Pasadena, Texas. I went through the bakery and they're smart to put it right in the entrance where I found a big Salvadoran quesadilla. These, as opposed to Mexican quesadillas, are a sweet bread made with cheese and topped with sesame seeds. I took a star off because I wanted a cheese pupusa and they only had mixed (pork and cheese). I ordered a chicken taco with nopal (prickly pear) and guacamole. The dining area has picnic-style seating with a big screen TV. Of course, they had a soccer game on. If I lived closer to the area, this would definitely become "Mi Tienda" "My Store." read more

One of my favorite grocery store, got everything i need, good lower prices and cheaper gas price, it sell grilled chicken fresh tortilla and they gave a cantina where you can order food and eat it right there. So in my search for Camellia Red Beans (I'm keepin the tradition alive Mom!!!!) I slipped thru Mi Tienda to see if they had em..to my dismay, they didnt...but not @ a total loss!!! cuz awww mannnn, what they do be gottin' is wonderful odors of sweets & grilled meats eminatin' all over dis joint and one of da buddah bellyness such as myself cant/couldnt resist!!!! So I had to introduce my girl to the aquas, jamaica & watermelon..ive had better jamaica but the watermelon was damn good!! but no no no you cant just get that..nah had to step over and see what was grillin..ya herd!!! the line inside was a tad long so we went back out front where there is a stand/tent and there you can get grilled meats by the pound...damn thats just sounds good and like a lil gem to keep in ones mind (ahh i know a place i can get grilled meat by the pound!!!) they were out of barbarcoa so we opted for 2 beef fajita tacos and they were damn good - juicy & tender!!! the lady threw the corn tortillas on the grilled too, so they were a nice warm bed for the meat to lie it..squirt sum lime w cilantro & onion w some green spicy salsa!!!! bam!!! just what daddy needed!!!! read more

I love the prices here! I drive by this place everyday to work, and I make sure to pay attention to their billboard outside with the specials for that week. Although it's in spanish, I use what spanish I remember from high school to read it. (They should translate the sign) Mi Tienda is owned by HEB which correlates to the low prices and fresh food. They have a large selection of everything. There's an area where they make different types of bread, drinks, snacks, and tortillas. All fresh and made daily! I agree with others who have commented on this store. From the moment you enter the premises, you feel that have crossed the Mexican border. Most of the sales posters are written in Spanish with no English translation. The store is filled with authentic Mexican foods and utensils. It is a great choice for all your south of the border needs. My wife and I have searched many places for pure Mexican vanilla extract. It is very in other stores which carry only vanilla flavoring. Mi Tienda carries four brands of Mexican and Madagascar pure vanilla extract. I will definitely visit this store again. read more

Man o Man what a place. This store has everything that caters to the Hispanic community. This has a tortilleria ( fresh made corn tortillas), a fresh aquas (flavored water) stand, a taqueria/ grill and on the weekends barbacoa, carnitas, menudo and all that good stuff. This is a predominantly Hispanic type HEB but it has much to offer everyone. The prices are very reasonable, the produce is fresh looking and the aguas are simply amazing. Truly amazing! The main reason for our stop here was for the aguas frescas. I am a lover of horchata but when I saw the coco I knew that was the one I must order. The best decision was to order both. We shared because that's what good friends do and were happy. The aguas are so very flavorful and refreshing, especially in this horrible heat that the Houston area is plagued by. The horchata was so creamy tasting with the nutmeg being a standout flavor. I am fond of nutmeg so for me that was perfect. The coco was also creamy, cooling and full of fresh coconut taste. There were bits of coconut throughout so this agua had a little "chew" to it. The small deli looked and smelled delicious and I would definitely try many of the items in the future. The prices were very inexpensive and the servings that I saw were generous. The deli seemed very popular. The bakery was another stellar section. It was full of fresh baked goodies and the smell was so heavenly and sweet. The varieties of baked goods was abundant. The meats section was another area of abundance. There are so many meats to choose from and would be well worth the trip here to pick up some for cooking a Mexican type meal at home. The employees are friendly and the lines move efficiently. Horrible. It's always a madhouse! The service is horrible. I think the only people who like this place are the people who fit/look the demographics. I'm not trying to be a racist since I'm a minority myself. I was waiting in line for like 20mins. and never even got acknowledged. Took my business elsewhere! Never again will I step foot in this hell hole. Reminds me too much of the hell hole they all try to escape! Skip it if you're Americanized ;) There are plenty of Mexican markets that are so much better where you get treated with respect and hospitality. Try Bravo Ranch in Pasadena for example!
