Margarita!
Sara G.

We ate at Mi Mexico twice during our all too short stay in Cortez and... as I was stuck eating tasteless Mexican food today at a chain restaurant in Denver, I reminisced about our delicious meals here and wishing for another visit. We tried their Chile Verde (so good my son had it twice), the Chili Colorado burrito (again so good that it appeared at both meals), delicious bacon wrapped shrimp, tacos al pastor, mixed fajitas and the Mi Mexico enchiladas. In every case the protein of choice was well seasoned and deliciously cooked and abundant. Great house margaritas and cervezas on tap, and a nice patio accompanied by good service. A real win in my book!

Shrimp fajitas on a black iron hot plate with a generous portion of shrimp, caramelized onions, bell pepper, and mushrooms. Excellent!!!

A new Mexican restaurant has opened in Cortez. CO. Mi Mexico serves fantastic food that is fresh, tasty and that is competitively priced. Our new favorite are the fajitas both chicken and shrimp are outstanding. Pictures are posted of the dishes. The shrimp fajitas come with a generous portion of sauteed onions, bell pepper, onions and mushrooms still sizzling on the hot plate when served. Beans, rice, pico de gallo, lettuce, and sour cream along with your choice of flour or corn tortillas make the dish complete. The fajitas are soooo good we have yet to try many other dishes but those we have tasted are fantastic as well. And there are chips, salsa, and a side of what the owner calls Salsa Mexicana which is cabbage based and excellent. We normally pass on the cabbage appetizer but this one makes us want more and more. We are regulars at all the Mexican food restaurants in the area but now this one tops our list.

Both ladies were excellent, fun and very very welcoming. Nicest people we have met thus far driving from Nevada. Always smiling, not hanging over you while you eat, and extremely polite. The food was absolutely incredible. Over a week traveling with numerous stops, La Casita De Cortez absolutely comes out on top easily. Homemade food with passion behind it and generous portions. Everything was cooked to perfection and tasted incredible. The drinks were also impeccable with a decent variety of margaritas and others. Stop here if you can and enjoy every second of it! You won't regret it!

The good things were the marinated fajita meat and fresh corn tortillas. Unfortunately the onions and peppers were charred and burnt black which meant the meat was way overcooked The outdoor dining area was nice but it was too cold for our parents so we sat inside. They didn't offer green chile salsa which is what our mom really wanted. Our server Elizabeth was very nice and seemed too busy but was kind to fulfill our repeated requests. Their portions of sour cream and side dishes to accompany the fajitas were skimpy. We had to always ask for more fearing additional charge after charge, but happily that didn't happen. Overall it was okay. I doubt I'd return.

Great little place with nice ambience and friendly, fast service! I don't know if I could call it…read morethe best Mexican food I've had, but for a burrito stuffed with a pepper stuffed with cheese, I couldn't complain. Vegetarian diners beware that the vegetarian burrito has been jettisoned from the version of the menu pictured, but there's still the chile relleno burrito (delicious) and a combo plate which I can believe be made veggie. Chips, salsa and an unremarkable cabbage slaw are served gratis. Our Modelos came with ice cold glasses with a Tajin rim. Portions were substantial, avocados were fresh, and the friendly service made me forget that earlier, at the Grand Canyon, a man of boomer age openly gestured to my relatively unobtrusive septum piercing and straight up laughed. This man is not equipped for the modern age. Anyways, it's a great place to settle down in a comfy booth, unroll a map of Colorado, and destress from hours of driving with somehow the same pickup truck always following a little too close behind you.

Being told by a local that Cortez is in want of a good restaurant this is the best they had, we gave it a try. The food was okay and nothing to write home about. In fact, I have gotten far better Mexican along the East coast than this place, though the green chiles are better in this region. The chile colorado was okay at best. The refried beans were average. No one in the group was wowed about the dishes they had. Desserts were a bit perplexing. The churros arrived without the sugar and cinnamon. The sugar combo came in a saltshaker and when applied to the churro didn't stick. The sopapillas had a mixed viewpoint amongst us. No one really enjoyed them except for me. Overall, this is average. If you're in Cortez it may be the best Mexican restaurant they have.

We looked for a lunch spot via Yelp on our way home from Telluride…read more Yelp did it again. Loungin' Lizard will be our go to every time we pass through Cortez in the future. We walked in and were immediately greeted by one of the bartenders and told to sit wherever we liked. We found a nice booth off to the side of the bar area. Our server Patrick stopped by the booth and pointed us to the food menu in the chalkboard. We also had another server but I didn't catch her name. They were both very friendly and attentive. I ordered the special for the day. A green chili Rueben & fries. Wow, this sandwich was so delicious! What a creative combination of flavors. Even the slaw in the Rueben included the green chilis. The fries were hot and crispy. My husband ordered the spicy BBQ pulled pork tacos. He said the tacos were amazing and the flavors were off the charts. They were topped with a slaw and pickles. The side of "tortilla chips" had a dusting of a very flavorful spice. Not sure what it was but very tasty. Looking over the menu, this restaurant has some very creative dishes. We can't wait to stop by again! My husband ordered
