I had dropped off our son at the 30th Street Station. He was catching a train to NYC. We were supposed to meet friends for dinner, but had about an hour and a half to wait. SO I decided getting I should get my nails done! I googled places "near me" , read the reviews and chose THIS spot because of their high marks!! When I walked in I saw it was an intimate calm space with a cool vibe. I spoke to Sahar, who was thoughtful, and professional and understood my needs. She regretted that she missed gut not being able to accommodate me, but let me know if I could wait a bit maybe they would be able to. So I waited a bit. She then came out and said fortunately one of the manicurists was available and I could not be happier! I've had manicures in fancy ritzy hotels, and average run of the mill places ( all over the world). HONESTLY I cannot say enough about this place!! I felt as if I was treating my hands & nails to a special SPA service. Very elevated! The warm towels and the fabulous scents & creamy hand massage were phenomenal!! I ONLY wish they had a room in the back to DO this to my entire body!! The quality of polish they use is also amazing! It's been five days since my visit & my nails NEVER looked better!! My manicurist was Angelica. I think anyone employed here would do a great job! But she was very lively & professional! Would definitely return there again! Even though I'm an hour and a half out of that area.!! read more

Quite a different experience than a typical nail salon. This is a small shop that's been around for a long time. Honestly if you get chance, go. You won't regret it. They take extra care to make sure to protect your nails. No acetone smell bc they don't use those strong chemicals. I had a gel manicure today and hope to try a pedicure at some point. They take care to understand their products and how they work with the client. Also offer tea, coffee. read more

I've been getting pedicures for the past two decades in the tri-state area and abroad and hands-down Mi Cumbia is by far the absolute best of the bunch! Such a wonderfully relaxing environment with a staff that makes you feel like you are family. I have to say it is the highlight of my month! The Cartagena pedicure is absolutely exquisite. if you need time to yourself to unwind and relax that is definitely the spa treatment you want to book read more

Boy, this is not your typical nail salon. No chemical smell. Super warm personalities. And although they offer them, they don't force you to choose nail polish. Sometimes, you just want to be cleaned up and moisturized. Their products are soothing and the atmosphere is relaxing (and clean!). Gabi took care of me in my last session. It certainly will not be my last visit there. read more

Traveling in from Dallas for my company Christmas party, I had to get a manicure! I had removed dipping powder myself, and my nails were in a terrible mess. I found Mi Cumbia on Yelp and so glad I did!! The shop is an easy walk from the W Hotel, and it's a far departure from run-of-the-mill nail salons. I had the coconut manicure, which was both healing and luxurious! I will definitely be back every time I'm in Philly!! read more

I was very excited for this and had very high expectations but I was quite disappointed. I got the Coco Pedi for $144 (yes, not a type-o, 1-4-4!!!). I thought I deserved a splurge. For that price, you'd think you're getting all the bells and whistles. If I'm being honest at my regular pedicure spot I get better treatment, more of a massage, etc. What I found really interesting was they didn't even lotion your legs. There's a wide selection of colors, but that's true everywhere you go. I understand this is free of chemicals and a more organic pedicure option which I LOVE, I was just expecting more. Sadly, I won't be back! I do want to say I am glad I tried it out and supported a small business, the women were super sweet, friendly, and accommodating and did a GREAT job. My point is for the price tag I didn't see the value add. read more

Hands down one of the best Brazilian waxes I ever had. Karina does a exceptional job by sitting down with you and explaining the process, whether it's your 1st Brazilian or your 100th, since it's your first time to Mi Cumbia. Nice added touch. She was quick and efficient. and boy did I like the products. With a Brazilian, you have to to trust the technician and the product must be compatible and comfortable to your skin. GREAT TECHNICIAN & GREAT PRODUCT!!!! Love the small intimate feel of this natural oasis. The eclectic design and decor are reminiscent of Columbian culture with raw and earthy elements. Will definitely be a regular customer here. read more

If you're going to charge more than the typical nail salon please be consistent with the services offered! My manicure was wonderful. My pedicure felt rushed and tense. No offer of a neck warmer which is my favorite part! Not as relaxing as usual. It's like too much time was spent on the manicure and then it was like oh shhh I still need to do the pedicure! My manicure looks beautiful though! read more

I used to love this place, but I didnt like my last visit. The charged me charged me 66$ for the selenas pedicure which was originally 50$. I wanted a simple french pedicure and they charged me an extra 10$ without telling me that a french pedicure was an extra 10$ charge. There was no good communication. I even went to the website no where does it say a French pedicure is an extra 10$ charge ! I only had a certain amount on me at the time. Which didn't sit well with me. I also tipped because, Im a kind customer. As I got home my pedicure was smeared. I didn't spent 70$ for my pedicure to mess up not only that but the nail technician who did feet didnt do a good job on my heels. My heels were peeling when I got home they were not smooth. The service wasn't great. This is the 3rd time my pedicures have been smearing whenever I take off my shoes. Sadly this was the last time for me. read more

For the past year I have been a regular client here. No more. One issue that has bothered me on a regular basis is bathroom inaccessibility. This 'spa' has one bathroom. Every time I have come in and asked to use it, I am told that there is a service going on in the waxing/hair removal room that is on the way to the toilet and thus, I must sit, jiggling, with my legs crossed until that room is free. And usually it never becomes free during the length of my visit. How can you relax with the pressure of a full bladder? Yet and still-I'm a man with a larger capacity. I so pity the poor women who come in needing to pee who then find the 'necessary room' totally off limits. When I first began patronizing this place, service was beyond stellar. I was offered a beverage several times during my appointment, offered help with selecting a polish type/color, and had time to converse pleasantly with the woman who did my pedicure. Again-no more. On my most recent appointment, I walked in and was not acknowledged, not offered anything to drink, never mind talk of polish choice, and the manicure tech, usually a pleasant person, did not say a single word to me during the entire visit. Not even a thank you for the generous tip I always give her. 2 young women in the front, seemingly new, were swanning and mooning around like idiots, then sitting at one of the manicure stations, just hanging out. They looked bored and seriously under employed. A casual atmosphere is one thing. 2 employees who do not even make eye contact with customers, offer water or check on customer's needs but have the time to lounge around doing eff all is another matter altogether and it does not look nice or reflect well on the business. When I first started coming, the 45 minute pedicure was $58. It is now $71. With no bathroom, no courtesy or hospitality and (to me) no real value for my money, I am simply going elsewhere. It saddens and disappoints me to write this, but getting too big for your business britches and filling your shop with rude, indifferent staff is not something I am willing to pay for any longer. The Rittenhouse area, as well as most of Center City, is full of equally charming, hospitable and less expensive places that offer pedicures. And I won't ever have to suffer through any more corny versions of 'Guantanamera' over the sound system while having my nails polished. read more

My absolute favorite safe space/spa/comfort zone/happy place in Philly. Mi Cumbia makes me happy plain and simple. From their beautiful nail polish selection to how well they treat their customers, every time I go I feel like I'm with my mothers and sisters and I walk out with a bomb mani/pedi and healthy nails. Everything is always so pure. Last time I went for the ultimo combo and I felt like I was walking on the clouds, my nail tech used shaved coconut and coconut oil to give me the best arm massage, she was attentive and careful with my nails, and when I left, I kept getting compliments about my manicure. Not to mention how relaxing the pedicure was, they sit you in a chair, give you heated neck warmers and sometimes turn off the lights for extra peace. It's literally the most amazing experience for just a nail salon, I'm obsessed! read more

I had a gift certificate to use up and finally made it in for a shellac manicure today. I must say I am very impressed, and this place lives up to the hype. It is a gem unlike any other salon I have been to. The text-only booking system was extremely efficient, and allowed me to pay everything (including tip) ahead of time so I had nothing to worry about when I came in. The people are extremely kind, welcoming, and personable, and you can tell they put a lot of love into their work. While I love having nice nails, I can't say I've really ever come out of a manicure feeling more relaxed than when I came in, as the salons I've been to have usually been noisy and busy, in and out type of places. However, at Mi Cumbia, I truly felt relaxed and really enjoyed my experience, and not just the finished product. The salon is quaint, beautifully decorated, and has a semi-private feel. Karina, the owner, did my nails and worked some serious repair magic, as two of my nails were badly chipped. The all natural products she used smelled and felt amazing - I have never had lavender buds and mango butter as part of a manicure before, and it was such a wonderful treat. I love that instead of acetone, all you smell at Mi Cumbia are amazing and simple organic products. I had a wonderful time chatting with Karina and learning more about her unique business, as well as chatting with Sahar (I believe she is the manager? She was very fun to talk to). The price is steep for sure: at $70 for a shellac manicure, it's twice what I pay for traditional gel. However, for all of the reasons I mentioned above, I think it is worth it, and I won't be able to resist coming back. read more

I rarely post reviews, but the ladies of Mi Cumbia deserve so much praise. Prior to a recent trip to Philly with my daughter I searched for "best manicures" and Mi Cumbia did not disappoint. We both had the mango butter manicure and it was the most luxurious I've ever had, all herbal hand soak and arm massage. We will definitely return, and add pedicures, next time we go to Philly. Also a big thanks for the great lunch recommendation! read more

OMG - go here! this place is absolutely wonderful. I went here for *waxing* services because I'm going to the Caribbeans for New Years and everything went so smoothly. The spa is beautiful and quaint. Very very clean, and the staff are very professional and friendly. They even give you a free piece of Colombian chocolate after your service. I've had a bad waxing experience in the recent pass with a nail spa I went to. I thought maybe I just have sensitive skin but that's not the case. After going here I truly see how a professional takes time and strategic efforts to achieve optimal results! They even provide an after waxing creme to use a day after your service. This place is wonderful and I will definitely be a returning client. read more

This is the most extravagant, luxurious pampering session I've ever allowed myself (as a broke grad student). Yes Mi CUMBIA is going to be way WAY pricey than other local spots (probably double, sometimes more than double) more a mani pedi but you are treated like royalty. I was so truly relaxed and at peace. Maybe once a year treat yo self is doable here :P The polishes are all high end (Chanel, Dior, etc), and as some reviews have said, you are helped to choose a color and experiment. The actual experience is pure bliss; accompanied by a soothing peppermint tea and massages. Really unbeatable, but you'll have to shell out for it read more

Don't go anywhere else for waxing. The professionalism, products, atmosphere and results here are simply the best. Head over heels above the rest. The organic nail services are quite good as well. They're slightly more expensive than your average nail salon but worth the periodic indulgence. I left smelling of coconut and my boyfriend actually noticed how smooth my hands were. I understand that the non toxic products are also safe for pregnant women - a good idea for a shower gift. read more

I was not a fan. It was very crowded, loud, not air conditioned, and expensive. There were a number of children-- a problem if the kids aren't getting services and you're paying 30% more because it's a small, organic salon. Also, the bathroom is connected to one of their rooms for private services, so if someone is getting a wax, there is no bathroom. There was also a lack of flourishes-- they don't use little bowls of water to soak your hands, and my manicurist didn't have me wash my hands before she started on my gel polish. I really don't get the appeal. My manicure was fine, but I could have gotten one more quickly and comfortably at virtually any other salon in the neighborhood (for ~$20 less). read more

This little day spa is like an oasis near downtown Philly. The pedicure experience is amazing from the coconut oil to the foot massage along with a perfect cup of tea! The manicurists and ladies who do waxing (Both Vanessa and Karina who is an owner) are very knowledgeable professionals also. From the moment you enter, you are warmly welcomed by smiles and hugs from Sahar and the welcoming team. It is well worth the time for yourself to decompress in this oasis. read more

There is a reason Mi Cumbia has won the Best of Philly a few times. It is- without a doubt- the BEST salon in Philadelphia. I have never been so ecstatic with the service or product at a nail salon before. The staff, space, sanitation and product are all absolutely impeccable. From the moment you call for an appointment until the moment you walk through the door, you are treated like family. I always leave feeling respected and informed. And seriously- do NOT skip the coffee. It may be the best I've ever had. The products are top notch- all natural and organic, and the women always explain how to care for yourself post-appointment. The Brazilian wax is the most painless and economical that I've ever received. Carina is truly, as the receptionist called her, the "wax whisperer"- she is so sweet and truly talented. Mi Cumbia has officially ruined every other salon for me. I can't wait to really become a regular here. read more

Can't resist updating again. Every experience here is perfection, the best customer service around. As another reviewer has said, it's so rare to spend your money and feel that the business truly cares that you have a wonderful experience and leave feeling great. I first came here when I was scouting out places to get a mani/pedi for my wedding. I've been back (almost monthly) since. Everything about Mi Cumbia is a delight. The staff is so friendly, the service is excellent, and everything smells so nice to boot I love, love, love the pedicure/quiet room. It's so relaxing and I've definitely taken some short naps in there. I always look forward to my appointments here, and I always leave feeling incredibly refreshed. read more

What can I say! This place is amazing. I think the break out star is the excellent customer service and the kindness shown to customers. From the minute you walk in and until you walk you out, you're constantly met with kindness and smiling eyes (the masks hide what I believe is the actual smile). The products they used are natural, fair trade, and feel luxurious. The lower leg and forearm massages was heavenly (better than most actual lay-on-a-counter massage places). It's a little pricey for me at $176 for a mani pedi. But this will likely be my once a year "treat-yo-self" spot. read more

Hooray! Tons of colors now! Two comments after my last two relaxing visits: 1. Minx pedicures really bring in the compliments! I had silver toenails that looked like little mirrors, which I endearingly referred to as my "robo-toes," that lasted for about 4 weeks! You can walk right out of there without waiting for Minx to dry, can slap on some closed toed shoes and not worry about smudges (perfect for the cold months ahead). 2. Marjorie is the sweetest. Thanks for such a great Cumbia Colombiana pedi (I swear the platter filled with pedi ingredients looked good enough to eat!) and your help with touch up! And they were reviewed in Grid Magazine (FINALLY!): http://www.gridphilly.com/digital-edition/ September 2011 issue Karina and Justin, thanks for making Philly a healthier place to primp! read more

Mi Cumbria is the prototype of what a nail salon should be. The service is attentive, comprehensive and quality. They treat every customer with love and respect, even high maintenance customers like my friends and I. They offer you neck warmers, open the libation of your choice (as long as it's not red wine because of all the beautiful natural fibers) and their signature coffee. When you come in you are greeted with warmth, it's a small and intimate setting and the service style reflects that. The respect of the employees sets the tone for the respect they have for their customers. You can feel comfortable as a new customer in this space regardless of your background, ethnicity, or lifestyle. So if you are looking for a new venue to get a pedicure or manicure, try them. They exercise impeccable hygiene and have sanitiary practices. The packages are worth the price to create a great shared experience for a loved one, a partner or a valued employee! read more

This place just makes me extremely happy. The staff is extremely friendly and make you feel at home. The location is small, so make sure to book an appointment. They have a great color selection and the staff is always willing to help pick out a color... they've never led me to a bad color! I can't imagine going to a different nail salon! The coffee is delicious and the services are impeccable! Beware... the first time you go, you won't go to another nail salon. read more

On my quest for the perfect brow wax I came across Terra Mia. Why not I thought? Ended up with a brow and bikini wax. I was a little shocked when I saw how much hair she took off with the brow wax, but the next day it looked fantastic.. The bikini wax was pretty painless and just as fantastic. Only problem for me- my skin is super sensitive and I broke out from the brow wax-total bummer!! As I was walking out I noted a few people enjoying pedicures. My scraggly feet could definitely use some TLC so I booked a pedicure. I was short on time and as much as I would have loved to luxuriate in an hour pedicure I opted for the express pedicure. I could totally tell I was missing out. For the brief time that my tired feet were massaged it was heavenly. $42 for an express pedicure-totally not worth it, but the hour long pedicure (although pricey) might just be worth it. I really appreciated how careful the pedicurist was with the polish. Although the colors available left much to be desired for, my toes looked fantastic. read more

Where is the 100 star option? Oh, it doesn't exist? That's a shame bc they should create it JUST for this salon. I've been coming to Mi Cumbia for about 5 months now and I don't see myself going back to any other nail salon or spa. On top of the sweet and welcoming people that you will undoubtedly fall in love with, you will enjoy the best manicure, pedicure and service you've ever had. I'm sure you're like "ok how good could it be?" Listen. Just go and you'll see what I'm talking about. There's a reason people travel from NYC to get this experience. I highly recommend the coconut mani and pedi. They brush warm coconut oil on your arms and legs for a massage and then exfoliate your skin with fresh coconut shavings. It's straight up one of my top 5 favorite feelings that I've ever experienced. TOP 5. And the massage? Holy s***. I've actually never had a massage as great as this when I was just going to the nail salon. The staff at Mi Cumbia are exceptional. Period. Any one of their manicuristas are knwoledgeable, attentive, kind and have always taken great care of me when I'm in. Feels like I'm hanging with my girl friends. Karina and Hustine have done a phenomenal job plus they're family is just beautiful. Thank you! Side story: after my last apt. I couldn't find my car and thought I was either THAT lost or someone had stolen it. Unsure of what to do, and in a complete panic, I went back to Mi Cumbia. They were closed but Kaila and Sahar welcomed me in, calmed me down, and then actually drove me around the block just incase they could help me find my car. I was stunned by their kindness and genuine desire to help me. I ended up finding my car a little later on, lol. Bottom line: Support Mi Cumbia. Thank me later. read more

It was a nice experience being there for the first time yesterday. I had very nice two ladies that worked with me. I would off wished they just kept me with one lady, I don't understand why they have to switch from manicure to pedicure. Overall, it was nice I loved my nails and the treatment for my feet, I felt refresh. Will definitely come back. 7/6/2018 I was not as happy with the Coconut Manicura this time around. First, some of my nails were left with bubbles. You can't tell with the photo- if not I would post it. Then when I did the math and the small heart on both ring fingers was $10 per nail! Never again! I have gotten really extravagant nails with gems and other things for a lot less. A simple heart maybe like $3 dollars each would be reasonable. If I would of known, no heart for me! That was too much! The environment and staff still very nice, but I think their prices need to be checked for some services and the regular manicure is really not worth it, it looked like I did them myself. Not too happy this time! read more

I visited Mi Cumbia for the first time today and was very happy with my manicure by Blanca. I got the shellac manicure, which took just under 30 minutes to complete. The atmosphere of this small salon is very comfortable and welcoming, the staff were very friendly (and offered beverages) and explained how I could remove the polish. I bite my nails and I have gnarly toes, so when my girly friend announced, "let's get mani pedis!" I was hit with a rush of sadness and shame. I would love to be one of the pretty-nailed ladies unabashedly flailing their shiny nails around town, I'd love to beckon a gentleman with the wave of a perfectly manicured finger. But I am not one of them. No, I am not a manicured maiden. Or so I thought. Rosie was the first to assess the situation. As I sat in the fancy pedi-chair, Rosie asked me to put on the headphones and prepare myself for a spiritual toe-voyage into a dream filled with Enya sounds and rhythmic chair massages. Rosie and I didn't talk much, but I'm pretty sure it's because she was busy catching her breath the whole time she scrubbed away at my feet. On she trudged applying lotions, ground cornmeal (no joke), and finally the blue polish I selected for my toes. They're brilliant. Next, I walked my sorry fingers over to Colombian Karina. Without even mentioning their dire condition, she applied creams and massaged my hands (like they even deserved it). We chatted along, about our similar ethnic background, about the machete she wishes she had with which to cut the coconuts, about sports, the weather, and love. It was a very human experience. She prodded me to go with a french manicure until finally, I didn't say (but said) "oui s'il vous plaît." So here I sit, in front of my computer with pretty toes and pretty fingers feeling like a pretty girl. read more
