We were visiting the Carrizo Plain and stayed in nearby Taft. Mi Casita Mexican Restaurant was suggested by the hotel and was only 1 block away. This spot is a restaurant and connected bar. Decor is old school with old banquettes but the service was warm and the restaurant is clearly a family operation. Food quality and portion size was better than expected. Prices are lower than in the San Francisco area. Rated 4.5 on Google, 3.8 on Yelp. Yelp had old menus on there, so we uploaded new ones. Food Review Free chips were very good and refillable. We tried not to eat too many! Guacamole ($8.95 for 8oz) was fresh and well made. Nice for the crispy chips. 9/10 Shrimp Fajitas ($24.95) was a large portion of medium-small sized fresh shrimp sizzling with onions, bell peppers and more. Rice and refried beans on the large separate platter. House made corn tortillas were thick and very good. I would recommend this place, but it isn't a must. The food was pretty good in flavor, but it wasn't like OMG I must have it again. I ordered the enchilada suiza and it came with soup or salad. I got the albóndigas and they too were good. The service was great and fast. I went during lunch and I was done in around 20 minutes. The host and waitress were nice and attentive. Really good service overall. The ambiance was ok. The lighting is a little low and the music sounded like it came from a broken speaker. There wasn't anything amazing that I could point out. Like I mentioned before, I do recommend it but if you're in between this place and another, I would go with the other. read more

Just came for dinner with my family and it was a great experience. Service was friendly and the food was great! Everyone was happy with what they ordered and we all had a great time chatting it up! Service was good there salads are garbage it's a couple pieces of lettuce with slight cheese and croutons not even a salad then for my meal I ordered A LA carte shrimp enchiladas no rice or beans and I got more oil and butter then I did the actual meal I literally had to tip my plate over just to drain the juice. Then after eating my meal got 2/3 through and could not eat much more do to the overwhelming taste of oil and butter. Not my 1st, 2nd, or 3rd choice. They seem like they have gone down hill more then up and the enchiladas them self were skimpy with more cheese then anything along with very tiny pieces of shrimp horrible meal! Located in Downtown Taft with plenty of parking for the area. My co-worker ordered an appetizer of guacamole which I found it to be bland. It was blended by not much sight of spices and definitely needed a touch of salt and lime juice. I ordered the standard ground beef tacos thinking I could get a good judge on their seasoning. I found everything just plain bland and in need of serious seasonings. Everything from their guacamole to their tacos and even their salsa just so darn bland. Same people running it, but absolutely different food. Seats are broken and torn. Tables wobble and some sit at a slant. I ordered a chimichanga. I got a fried tortilla wrapped around room temperature meat with 7 shreds of cheese a a teaspoon of bland red sauce. My sons carne asada tacos were more gristle than meat. I enter on an early Tuesday evening to a couple of oilfield hands drinking at the low counter bar. They turn to greet me, and I'm told, "sit anywhere you'd like" by whom I would come to know as the head of house, cashier, waiter, busboy, and prep cook of Mi Casita. This renaissance man, after cashing out the roustabouts, plunged both hands deep into a chip bin without so much as winking at a wash basin. At this point, I'm still in for the ride. When it comes to hole-in-the-wall joints, a "B" rating from the health board is sometimes short for "Best." The front door swings open to reveal a disheveled and possibly half-drunk man who saunters so confidently into the kitchen I can only assume the head chef has arrived. Perhaps I'm being too generous in saying that sound was the sink and not the grill, but when I heard the sharp beeps of a microwave pinging away, I knew the endgame was approaching. A soaking wet Al Pastor burrito where the driest thing on the plate, besides the flavorless puffs of rice, was the now rust-water orange sauce hardened and cracked around the edges of a burrito recently bathed in a radiation rotisserie. A one bite wonder. One bite is all it took for me to stand up and pay the two-man circus parading as a food joint. Be careful out there. read more

This is a tiny hole-in-the-wall, but they are HUGE on flavor! The food is not only awesome, but it is CONSISTENTLY awesome. Came here for my boyfriends brothers birthday and it was almost completely empty. Not always a good sign but the food was wow and the Margaritas were even better. He got a free shot and sanged to it was very fun. Portions are nice and big like they should be and their chips and salsa are delicious. Chips came out fresh and the salsa wasn't too spicy. I ordered the flan for dessert and if you like traditional flan like me ask for it with no chocolate sauce and no whipped cream (or just on the side). Carne asada burrito... never again. the strange smell in the car from my take-out bag should have tipped me off, but hungry as I was took it home and set out to eat it. I open up the box and see it's drenched in this weird orange sauce and thought to myself hmm maybe I didn't notice they make all their burritos, wet burritos and proceeded to dig in. My fork uncovers these rather large chunks of what was once a beef fillet, which I thought was weird, but took a bite still committed to my purchase. I imagine my taste buds recoiled at the taste of this meat. It was so bad I brought a beef chunk up to my nose to see if it smelled spoiled. I couldn't smell it over the weird sauce that turned out to be a sort of mixture of canned enchilada sauce and marinara, and thought to myself that must be the purpose of it. Not sure that Burrito L. Has even been here. In the 4 years that I've been eating here, not one complaint.. The service is prompt and very polite at all times. Smaller restraunt that could definitely use some updating. The food is fair priced and very good. The beer is cold and the chips never run out. What else could you want? When the weather permits, the outside patio is nice retreat. I'm moving away from Taft soon and will MISS this place.... :( read more
