Good authentic cheap eats. No wait, not busy. Ate the ceviche which was amazing. Very large plate for the price. Everything was good too.

Perhaps the le he at the bottom as too salty and it needed more heat and definitely garlic. The portion was good. The fish quality itself was excellent. Shenzi tiradito - I think that's what it was called. This was a solid 10/5. I would get three plates and call it a day. The sauce is slightly spicy, w tiny bits of garlic and onion and it has a good tang w the perfect amount of salt. The fish here looks like the same of the ceviche however, it is from a certain part of the fish because it melted like butter. This also had small slices of scallops which were excellent. As per usual, I tipped the plate and scooped all that delicious juice. Mint ginger lemonade - meh. I know, that one is on me...who gets mint ginger lemonade? Well, I have had it in a few places already and there was a spot that made it perfectly. To the point that it inspired me to make some when I get home and also...I proclaimed this year to be the year of mint. I'm going to use mint on everything. ANticucho corazón - skip. Little half potatoes are dry...and the anticucho itself was overcooked and the marinade of the anticucho was weak. Here's the thing, if I can make it better than I can be disappointed. It's just la our intensive to make at home. Causa de pollo is roughly 8" x 3" x 2.5"H. It's really good. As you know cause should have a layer of mashed and dressed potato and ofcourse this does. Your only complain may be that this causa is too soft and there are no texture contrasts. That's on you, so be warned, I thought it was great. Who doesn't love a dish presented w mini hard boiled quail eggs? So cute. Nigiri Nikkei ...three pieces of little mountain rice topped w a butterflied shrimp. This is another dish I would pig out on. It was excellent. We were two people and it was recommended, we ordered plenty. Which was true and it also meant I didn't have a second stomach to try an entree. So I don't know what I missed there. In conclusssion....their Nikkei and raw fish/ seafood game is STRONG here. So opt on those....a few of those....because it's excellent in flavors and quality

The seafood wontons were delicious, and my husband had the catch of the day with tacu tacu (a Peruvian dish that is rice, beans and spices) that was fantastic! I had the seafood spaghetti and it was delicious with a silky sauce that coated the noodles perfectly . The ceviche (Asian style) was the standout of the meal though-made with the catch of the day- it had sesame oil, chilis, and crushed peanuts on it , in a fresh citrus dressing. We loved our meal here! The piece sours are good too! Reservations are a must!

We went for lunch and initially tried to order the lunch special, but there was some confusion with the English menu. The server mentioned that the description wasn't quite accurate, and between my limited Spanish and their limited English, we decided it was easier to just order à la carte. The Nikkei style here seems pretty cream-cheese-forward, which isn't really my thing, so we skipped those rolls. The ones we did order were very good, though, and the pisco sours were refreshing. Overall, it was a solid introduction to Nikkei food with good flavors and drinks, and I'd definitely come back.

I started with a pisco sour; my efe had a concoction whose name I cannot recall but which was based on pisco. We shared a ceviche clásico. It was a huge portion, just like in Lima with fish, those fried kernels of corn that the Peruvians love, sweet potatoes and tigre de leche (tiger's milk). Wow! Then we split a causa with fried langostinos on top of yellow Peruvian potatoes. Yum! One suggestion: if you're not Argentine of Uruguayan ask for ají picante on the side. That will take the spice level of the causa up to the Peruvian level. Bonus points: our super helpful waiter was venezolana. Bless you, Argentina, for taking in so many Venezuelans and giving them permission to work.

I wish I had a picture, but it's normal, particularly in the evening, or weekend days, for the line…read moreof people waiting to get into La Conga to stretch a solid half block to the corner, or more. Why? Because they don't talk about it like it's the best Peruvian food around, but more that it's a great value - huge portions of good food, and a reasonable price. And that's what has, apparently, had La Conga grow from its origins as a little "mom and pop" operation on the second floor of the same building that seated about two dozen people, to the massive, couple of hundred seat place that takes up the whole ground floor and serves more than 1,000 people a day, every day. The place is noisy, but not deafening (it was running a steady 71-72 dB, about the sound level of a shower). Service is friendly, but clearly overworked. It took awhile to get someone to take our order, the waiter in our section was attending to all the small tables, and more or less ignoring us, which he said to me, "once I get them taken care of, I can take care of you guys". Yeah, but we're not hard to take care of like some bigger groups. We'd decided as a group what to order, he only had to take the order from one of us for the whole table. But, once finally ordered, food fairly flew out of the kitchen to the table. The original plan was just to order a couple of whole pollos a la brasa, the famed rotisserie chicken of Peru, and for which La Conga is particularly famous. And, what a deal - a whole chicken, with a mound of fries as big as the chicken, and a mixed salad just as big again, all for a mere 420 pesos, about $11, and enough to feed four people. But a couple of people had decided they wanted something else, and so that went out the window. We went with a chicken and a half (420 + 280 pesos) - we probably could have gone with just a single chicken. It comes out a glowing bronze color, lacquered with soy and chili paste and spices. Personally, I found it a little dry - that does happen with rotisserie chicken, but here, at least for me, more so than I've found at other places. But it is delicious, and the fries are excellent, and the salad is one of the better side salads I've had here in town with this dish. Personal favorites for pollo a la brasa in town are probably El Pollo Rico out in Chacarita and Mamaní behind the Abasto. But I'll give this one third place.... Next up, as we were working our way down to the bones of the pollo, a massive "family sized" jalea mixta - mixed fried seafood, mounded with golden brown fish fillets, calamari rings, and more. Tender and soft, accompanied by the classic cebollita, red onion salad. Maybe some lemon wedges... we could have asked. 680 pesos (they have a non-family sized one for, I think, 490 pesos, that still would have been enough for us to share). One of the group wanted chicharrón de cerdo - deep fried pork shortribs and belly. He did share some of it. Tasty, but for me, very dry, very overcooked. 260 pesos. Highly recommended on the 'net was their tortilla de camarones, a shrimp (really, I think, given their size, prawn) egg pancake that was creamy on the inside, the shrimp cooked perfectly, and a beautiful mottled brown and gold. For me, this was the best dish on the table. 390 pesos. All in all, a very good lunch. I'm not overly fond of the room, but then, that happens a lot in bigger restaurants, especially the bigger Peruvian ones, where it's just bustle, chaos, and noise. Service, once we got it, was excellent. The food good to very good - though as noted, I found two of four dishes to be overcooked and a little dry. The price, very reasonable - all the above, plus various beverages, and tip, and the eight of us walked out of their for 2800 pesos, 350 apiece, or, under $10. It wasn't, however, good enough for me to go back and stand in a long line, but if there wasn't one, I might stop in for that tortilla again....

I went with friends who were game to go splitsies on 3 different dishes, so we got to try a nice variety! The creamy chicken dish was awesome... It had a bit too much sauce, but the chicken was tender and flavorful enough to even out the ratio. The ceviche was refreshing and came with scrumptious mussels. I wasn't as blown away by our 3rd dish, fried fish in a red sauce, but it was still pretty great. The corn and bread are served with sauce that packs some punch. Loved the pop music (even though it seemed a little out of place, the choices were prime) and the friendly service. Chan chan rocked; I'm gonna recommend it to everyone I know!

Not a smile and or any tips/recomendations on dishes. We asked what size the starters was as the prices was close to the same as the mains, the waiter said small/ only a taste.. The starter was huge. (We speak decent spanish so the communication was not a problem) We tried cevitche and langostinos for starters. The cevitche was pretty good to be honest, but the langostinos was awful. Please see the picture.. They "decoraded" it with ketchup and mayo! We had a good pisco sour to wash it down with fortunately. The main dish was a hugo plate of deep fried sea food: whole pieces of shell, crab and fish. Probably enough for 4 people. For us this was really a poor experience, the service , the inovative peruvian cusine some mentioned in a review I could neither see on any plates or taste. The fish they used in both the cevitche starter and the main course was of a good quality and their pisco sour was also good, too bad they ruin thin impression with a non-existing service and some dishes who is close to a disaster. If you need to go here, stick to the cevitche no matter what!
