Mediocre at best. I be been training for 10 years, with the last 4 yrs training 3 days a week…read more(classes, 1 on 1 , and sparring ) and was in two for a day so i thought i would take there level 3 class. Definitely a great place for a beginner who is looking to shed some lbs and is bored of the traditional gym, but definitely not a fight gym. Or if it is a fight gym they need to re evaluate their levels for classes. Very little technique but more about warm up, and cheesey burn out at the end. If the 90 min class maybe 30 min was actual pad work and it was beginner stuff. 3 punch combo with push kick. Would have got a better work out on a heavy bag at a local YMCA.

I was here on Tuesday (Uptown location) for the 6:00 pm class…read more Pros: - Good place for starting off. -There are 3 locations, uptown being the largest. - Punching bags are off to the far side away from where classes take place which is nice. - Change room is clean and there were enough lockers for everyone. - Lot's of room. - At the Downtown location, I was immediately welcomed at the door. - The pace is good for those who are just starting to work out. Cons: - You really do need to buy gloves, even if it's a trial class because the equipment (spare gloves) smells really awful. And no, it's not the smell of sweat, it's a scent that's rather indescribable. - The claim for TKMT is that no one is judgemental however the instructor said I looked horrible. I don't think she meant it to be offensive, but I was embarrassed since the whole Level 1 class turned their heads to look at me. I think the word was just a negative connotation is all. I suggest you bring a friend for the first trial for a comfortable experience.

I went to the location near Yonge & Eglinton, expecting to see a dojo like in the pictures on their website (bright, airy, clean). I was disappointed to see that it was in a basement, the walls were dirty & had holes in them. The mats on the floor were also worn looking & dirty. We talked to Chris about classes, etc & he was very knowledgable, nice & friendly. But I was put off by the condition of the practise room. It was one room and a small room for doing martial arts. Which is probably why there are holes in the walls. We watched a class for about 30 minutes with about 8 guys in it. They seemed kind of cramped. I'm giving them a middle rating since I didn't actually take a class. But for the location I would give them less. They might want to invest in new mats or at least take some time to thoroughly clean them & repair the holes in the wall & repaint the walls. Seeing this place didn't make me want to take a class there. Sorry to say that but just my opinion.

Everyone should take these classes -women and men. As practical as you can get for self defence…read more Chris really makes the classes, he's very friendly, and good-natured. He teaches in a way that's really accessible to beginners, while giving options to those more advanced. It's a pretty small and humble space, but the quality of instruction is definitely there. It's a really great way to learn practical self-defense techniques and I definitely recommend trying it out. The classes I've been to have skewed more male, but there's aways at least a few ladies and I feel like it's a very welcoming environment.

That's what I was first reminded of when I first signed up my son here. Master Kang and his instructors motivated the kids and cared about making them better. Shortly thereafter, my older son (who initially swore he had no interest in martial arts because they make you do push ups and doing the same thing over and over again was hard and annoying) asked to join his brother for classes. Being heavier set and having quit multiple other martial arts training before, we didn't expect him to last more than a month but we proceeded. In a couple of months, not only was he still taking classes with his brother but he is even more engaged to do so. His kick height has doubled where it was before, his confidence has increased, he's more respectful and he's pushing himself harder and I credit the instructors and Masters for this. Seeing both my kids' improvements, my husband and I decided to sign up and learn with our children and unlike what we initially feared, we feel quite at home and Master Kang gave us the opportunity to take part in something important to our kids which became important to us too. We now all challenge and encourage each other to do better and I can't say any other martial arts gym have ever had our entire family as engaged as Master Kang's! Try it for yourself!!

When you walk in they have a little shoe area to take off your boots/shoes and then a rack to put your coat. You check yourself in where there are iPads. They said shoes go in half size so I am usually a 8 and ended up with a 7.5 which was a bit snug but manageable. Then there are lockers further down. I found it cute they wrote a little sign on your locker - welcome to cycle bar with your name as well. They also give you a little red plastic bottle with your name too so you can refill it with water. I filled mine and drank the entire thing during my class. You definitely work up a sweat.
