Absolutely amazing service with great food! Everyone gets free (warm) chips & salsa, so we ordered some fresh guacamole to go with it too. The guac definitely needed more flavoring. However, the dinner dishes were perfect. My husband ordered the grilled steak tacos and I ordered the fajita quesadilla. The fajita quesadilla was packed with flavors and the portions were huge. This place felt super trendy with very pretty looking drinks. The true star of this place is the staff. Our server was Dafne and she was unbelievably attentive. We've been here several times as it has a great, flavorful selection of food for vegetarians. The food is great. I highly recommend the dip trio and spicy salsa, the chips are fresh and seasoned as well. One of my favorite dishes are the enchiladas and quesadilla bowl. This was our first time here and we were very impressed with the venue. Huge, expansive restaurant with a fun, colorful decor. We had the house margarita, which to be honest wasn't very flavorful. The hubby ordered the pineapple jalapeño one which was big and he enjoyed. We weren't planning to eat (it was 5pm) but ended up ordering the guacamole and the lime ceviche. This was my second visit to Mezcalito Durham, and it was a better experience than my first. It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon, but we decided to sit inside. We were seated right away. Mezcalito is very spacious, plenty of seating inside and outside. It's a vibe. Pablo was our server. He did good. They brought out chips and individual bowls of salsa as soon as we were seated. We ordered CHORI-QUESO as an appetizer for two of us to share and drinks. All the drinks are super big, unless you order wine, so be prepared! I ordered the fajita quesadilla w/ shrimp. One of my friends ordered the ultimate ACP, and then the other ordered the quesadilla bowl. I really enjoyed my food this time. The food was hit and fresh. The presentation was great. My friend that had the ACP wasn't too happy with her food and it was smaller than most Mexican restaurants' ACP. The menu is pretty expansive, so you can definitely find something for everyone. My coworkers and I went for a work lunch and it was perfect! The lunch menu has great options and great prices to match, I got the pescado tacos and it was light and flavorful. The inside seating area is deceptively huge! We were seated in a back area by the outdoor bar, unfortunately the atmosphere and music were so loud we had to ask to moves tables to outdoors. The menu has a good selection of food ranging from around $12-35. Ended getting the pork Torta. It was delicious, I'd go back and get it again. The draft beers are around $7. They are so accommodating with bigger groups, have such beautiful decorations, all of my servers have been so kind, I went to celebrate moving into the durham area with 10+ people and they even sang happy birthday to a member of my party and delivered a special birthday treat. Mezcalitos will continue to be the place I go to celebrate or just spend quality time with people at. They switch up their beautiful decor seasonally it seems and it is so epic. I love sitting outside. The food has huge portions and is a great bang for your buck, especially if you are on a student budget. Their drinks are bigger than your head but can be sized down. Their flan is superb, and you can't go wrong with any of the food. Went to this place on a first date and was very pleased with this choice! The food was phenomenal! Well seasoned and delicious. The waiter was very helpful in helping me make a decision. I got the Carne Asada which I thought was cooked to my liking (medium rare) and was very filling. I couldn't even finish my meal. My Date got the King Burrito which he let me Try and it was also pretty good although it's not something I would order for myself. One thing I loved about this spot were the many options for cocktails. They had a very creative variety of drinks. I opted for the Mangonada and it was massive but I finished the whole thing. First time here and I was pleasantly surprised. It was busy for Sunday dinner. We got chips quickly and two kinds of salsa. We ate at the outside patio, which was breezy with the fans and cooling mist. Music playing was a bit loud, but it was festive as there was quite a bit of birthday celebrants at various tables. They have quite a bit of alcohol choices at different price points, which have different embellishments. Even something called a Tower for$85. Not sure how much alcohol is in it, as the we only had the house margarita. We had the enchiladas suizas, gringa birria (pork), and 3 kinds of tacos. I've been hearing great things about Mezcalito for some time so I was excited to finally be able to visit. Because of the location parking can be a little tricky. Luckily I was able to find street parking right away. The restaurant was really packed indoors and in the outdoor patios. This was expected since it was a Saturday evening. We were seated in the enclosed portion of the outdoor patio that was near a high traffic area and the bar. There are bars inside and in the outdoor patio of the restaurant. The table that we were seated at was very small for five people to eat at comfortably with large plates, their humongous famous drinks, etc. When I arrived my friends had just ordered. A short time later our server, Susan, took my order. I told her that I wanted the shrimp and chorizo tacos. I also pointed to the item on the menu and she asked if I wanted everything on it. But when she brought my meal it was chicken tacos. Since my friends had started eating prior to me I didn't make a big fuss about it or have my correct food prepared. The chicken tacos were ok and a little dry even with the sauce that came on them. The rice was good and the beans were ok. My friend's food looked really good and they enjoyed it so if I came back to this location I would try another dish. I also got a strawberry mojito. It was good but nothing extraordinary. Prior to my meal being prepared I tried a few chips and salsa. They were just ok. We came here to celebrate a friend's birthday so the restaurant sang happy birthday and offered a shot or dessert to celebrate. When we got our checks they were initially separated incorrectly however Susan corrected them without an issue. Just an FYI they do charge 0.75 cents for a to-go without a top. There are only two stalls in the woman's bathroom so there was a long wait & line to go to the restroom. With a restaurant this size and the size of the alcoholic drinks there def should be more. Overall my experience wasn't as good as I expected but I am possibly willing to give them another try. read more

We stopped into this restaurant due to its five-star reputation here on Yelp. I will tell you that it definitely deserves that! Our bartender/waiter Ezequiel was the best! He definitely served us with a smile. He was very attentive to all of our needs. And we couldn't have been any happier with the service of the other staff members. The ambience of the restaurant is very inviting. it is a beautiful open space/concept. With a living flower wall. Beautiful lighting throughout and a very inviting atmosphere. The manager Gilberto, was super friendly and told me all about the owners and how great that they are to work for. He has known them for years. Our food was fabulous and they served up some of the most amazing drinks I had ever seen. If you have not tried this restaurant, you definitely need to make this your next stop. This place is so fun! Colorful and HUGE drinks, festive vibe, cool ambiance. It's super large, so we didn't have to wait long to be seated at all. We had a peach and mango rum drink that was beautiful as well as delicious- we admired the cocktails at other tables too. They are generous with the delicious chips and salsa, and the server was great with his recommendations. I was eyeing the platano relleno anyway and having him say it was one of his favorites solidified my choice. It did not disappoint! It was a perfect blend of sweet, savory and creamy. The portion was generous so I have enough left for lunch tomorrow too! Parking was a challenge, but I don't fault the restaurant for that, just something to be aware of. Same with the volume- it's huge so it was understandably very loud- and the location means that you hear a lot of street noise so we had loud ambulances pass twice during our meal. I had been following Mezcalito on social media for a while and drooling over their gorgeous and elaborate cocktails, namely margaritas - my favorite! When a friend recommended it, I decided to go for dinner before a show at DPAC. I was a little worried about getting a table due to it being Friday night and its close proximity to the Durham Preforming Arts Center. This place is HUGE! We didn't have any wait for a table around 5:45. We were seated outside in the covered/heated patio. There is a bar out there, so I wouldn't say it's a true patio, but it fits the patio vibes. I really liked this area, but my only complaint was it was SO loud, like hard to hear the server and people at your table over the music. Speaking of server, ours was Pablo and he was GREAT! I know sometimes it can be hard to be extremely present on a patio, as the servers have to run to the bar, kitchen, and back to the patio, but Pablo did an awesome job. He was very personable and he went over the specials with us. He sold me on their Margarita flight which they had a new featured Margarita they called the Barbie. First of all, I love a flight of everything! It's so fun to sample, and the presentation on these drinks was completely Instagrammable. The fruit that was used to garnish was neatly cut and placed, and it was very fresh. They were fairly sweet, but they still packed a punch! They have so many fun flavors and options. I really enjoyed this, I can't wait to go back and try more! We ordered the chicken rolls as an appetizer and I really enjoyed these! 6 sizable rolls, this dish is perfect for sharing. The chicken was flavorful, the tortillas were perfectly crispy and the sauce was delightful! Chips and salsa were really fresh as well. I got the Tiras de carne as my entree. It was listed on the menu as Tiras de pollo, but they happily subbed the chicken for steak. This was DECADENT! The steak was nicely charred and paired with a chipotle sauce sent straight from sauce heaven. This came with rice and beans and tortillas - they have flour and corn, I chose corn! All food and drinks came out in a very timely manner with excellent presentation and temperature appropriate. Everything so so efficient and smooth, especially for such a huge place with a lot of moving parts. Portions were sizable and the drinks are so fun and delicious. .6 miles from DPAC! read more

This restaurant has been packed ever since they opened their Durham location. We even called them one time to make a reservation and they said they only do first come, first served. Knowing that, we popped in for Sunday brunch when they just opened. The decor is bright and festive. We enjoyed carnitas tacos with a side of chicken soup, and a Mezcalito burrito with rice, eaten along with a peach sangria and michelada. I'd have to say the food is okay but not outstanding. I thought the chicken soup was good but also very salty. I think the appeal here is the large portions and the massive alcoholic drinks they have. Made my way to this place for the first time on a Wednesday after work. While parking spaces were scarce and there was a ton of traffic in the area, I was granted access to either a table or the bar as soon as I arrived. The restaurant had decent traffic but we were able to find seats without much effort; we opted to sit at the bar. Our bartender(s) were amazing: they were courteous, informative, cheerful and attentive. The drink list is fairly extensive...mostly mixed drinks/cocktails such as margaritas and the likes as you would expect. However, the servings are very generous and the ratio of alcohol to other ingredients is exactly what you'd want. I tried the taco trio meal (I chose shrimp, chicken and beef). The tacos were piping hot (fresh off the grill/griddle) and each one was loaded with a generous portion of flavorful and succulent protein...extremely filling. I'm looking forward to planning another visit to this establishment...it's about a 35 minute drive from where I typically roam but well worth the visit. This is hands down THE BEST TACOS North Carolina has to offer. I have dined here twice and each time was the best food I've eaten at a Hispanic restaurant. My first time dining here was for lunch. I was greeted by the hostess, who sat me down immediately (just a tip, lunch time you'll get a seat but if you're coming for dinner I would get a reservation because this place gets packed!) It is beautiful and bright when that natural sunlight hit the inside of the restaurant. It has a very large bar and believe me the drinks are even better. They even have a seating section outside that's covered. So spring and summer, the outside seating definitely the place to be for those selfies! For drinks, I got the virgin Mangonada. It is $40 but by God is it worth it! It was amazing, and looked just like the picture! You're giving a little tower of homemade chips and salsa. For appetizers I got the chicken rolls and chori-queso. I was honestly full after eating those two but who can stop when the food is so good? There were hefty portions of the chicken rolls, and it came beautifully plated. I could literally eat that queso with everything and buy the spoonfuls. You must get this queso when you come here! I ordered the Birria tacos, and my friend got the taco sampler. To be quite honest, I was really full from the appetizers, however, that Birria taco was amazing! And those tacos, samplers came out, sizzling and hot! My second time dining, I opted for the queso again, and this time I got the Pastor Tacos. You get three tacos and it was the most perfect season taco Pastore I've ever had. And for them to pair it with that pickled onions *chefs kiss. It also comes with a little bowl of rice and beans. I looked and they had the rice and beans separate because some people don't like for their food to touch. And this came with black beans and they were really season. You can eat these by themselves if you're vegetarian. The rice was nice and fluffy and also perfectly season For my drink, I got a virgin Mojito and the waiter was advised of my fruit allergy and make sure my drink was made perfect. I absolutely fell in love with the interior and vibes of this restaurant. This restaurant was very hip with a young crowd . We got here over the weekend and it was a full house . We didn't have to wait long to be seated and was situated in the corner of the restaurant over looking the bar . Our host and waitress were very friendly and service from start to finish was wonderful . Food was delicious and appetizers were good as well. I definitely want to come back again as the food was great , service was awesome despite how busy they were , and the environment itself had great vibes . Our favorite Mexican spot in Durham hands down. The food is always a 5/5. The service however is almost always a hot mess. We literally watched five wait staff all circle around each other tonight not knowing where to go. Something is always either forgotten entirely or placed wrong. We are always patient though because I truly don't believe it is the waitstaff's fault. This is on MANAGEMENT and OWNERSHIP to care enough about their staff and establishment to figure out better systems for their staff to be able to provide cohesive and seamless service. Since it was a bit of a drive from Durham, I was excited to find out they were opening the Durham location. Mezcalito is a Tex-Mex restaurant with a fun drink menu. I strongly recommend getting a drink from here! You will not regret it :) All of their their entrées are delicious. Out of few dishes I've tried, I like their Ultimate APC the best! I always ask for house made hot sauce when I'm visiting a Tex-Med restaurant, and Mezcalito's hot sauce is banging. If you are into spicy food, strongly recommend mixing their hot sauce with salsa! Parking is pretty bad. There isn't a dedicated parking lot, so be prepared to parking on the street or a limited parking space (dirt road) next to Ponysaurus Brewing Company. read more

Absolutely unacceptable experience -- charged and humiliated with no apology I had one of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever encountered. After paying for my meal, I was publicly told by the manager that my card was declined -- despite my bank clearly showing the transaction went through. I calmly tried to explain and even showed proof on my banking app, but was dismissed and essentially called a liar. Things escalated to the point that the police had to be involved, all because the manager refused to believe the payment had gone through. Later, it was discovered that it was a software error on their end, and that I was charged as I had stated from the beginning. What makes this experience even worse is that I never received an apology -- not for the mistake, not for the public embarrassment, and not for the stress of being treated like a criminal over their own technical issue. Customer service and accountability clearly mean nothing here. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Mistakes can happen -- but how you handle them matters just as much, and this was handled terribly. read more
