Best chips and salsa in town. Staff was super friendly. Fun atmosphere. Great place. Gotta check out their quesadillas... they are FIRE. read more

Turn the music DOWN. Great lunch menu, but service can be spotty. No offer of drink refills, never saw waiter again after food delivered. Except to slap ticket on table. Music so loud could not carry on a conversation. read more

Two of us ate here on a weekday afternoon, we were literally the only people in the huge main seating area. My friend wanted to try this place because she saw they have a vegetarian menu, unlike a lot of Mexican joints. I ordered cheese enchiladas and refried beans. The waiter came out holding our plates with oven mitts and warned us they would be hot, which was strange because my enchiladas ranged from lukewarm to cold depending on which bite of them I was eating. They tasted nice -- in fact I rather liked the sauce -- but the temperature was a turnoff. (I didn't say anything to the staff because I was halfway through before I discovered the *really* cold bits and I didn't want them going to the trouble of remaking the plate.) The refried beans were pretty good but not great. This is a very nice place, clean, festively decorated, with lots of choices on the menu -- but honestly in a town with scores of excellent authentic mom-n-pop Mexican food outlets, it's not a spot I would personally choose to visit again. But if you like Chi-Chi's, Felipe's, and other joints where the fare is more Tex than Mex, this might be your jam. Service, by the way, was EXCELLENT. Very nice people. I hate to leave only three stars but that's my honest appraisal. Your mileage may vary of course. read more

this restaurant was bad i walked into the bathroom and it smelled like crap the second i got near it it was really nice but very dirty but they did have the savanna bananas playing which is a plus and the food came out quickly but the food was terrible can't even hear the music it was so dirty what a joke read more

Very good ambiance and well-decorated! The covered seating area gives a romantic vibe. Got some chicken fajitas and they were very tasty. The spicy salsa is watery though is fresh and delicious as well. The waiter was also friendly. Would recommend coming here for Mexican food in northwest Wichita. read more

This was my first time at this restaurant. There was a dead medium-sized roach on the floor next to our table that was overlooked by both the hostess and server. When we brought it to the attention of our server, he tried to sweep it under the door. I ordered a cheese enchilada and a chalupa from the lunch menu. The enchilada was a rolled up tortilla with unmelted cheese shreds inside. There was no red sauce. The soggy bean chalupa was buried under wilted lettuce and oxidized, brown guacamole. I was very disappointed. read more

Great food and great service everything I order is great and the drinks are great also

A wonderful place! The service is fast, attentive, and fun. The food is spot on, and exactly what you're looking for. We came here for a birthday, and if you let the staff know- they will come by and sing a song! And also a little tradition with whipped cream. I'm happy I came here, and I can see myself ordering takeout from here or coming back someday! read more

Sorry I forgot to take any pictures. However the food was great. I had the street tacos off the appetizers menu. You get four tacos. I had the chicken. The service was outstanding. The restaurant is very nice. Very clean. I love the ambiance. I will come back. My only complaint is they don't have wine glasses. They served my wine in a glass for magiritas. read more

Pros: The food is solid; if you've been to El Agave, Los Cocos, Playa Azul or any of the other larger, sit-down casual Mexican restaurants in town, you know what to expect--and you'll recognize the furniture. The complementary chips and salsa were fine, the menu was large but not overwhelming and we didn't have to wait too long for our food. This is a white queso-friendly establishment, which, while not considered overly "authentic" by some, is my jam. I got the chicken Chimichangas and the portion was large, flavorful and tastefully glazed in cheese sauce with standard rice/beans/salad sides. My husband got a Hawaiian-inspired chicken/shrimp dish with pineapple that came with beans with sausage (the names slip my mind) that he was very pleased with. There's a small but intentional vegetarian menu for those looking for more veg beyond the usual salad. Prices are great and still feel almost pre-pandemic, with quite a few meals under $10. Wait staff was friendly, though we had to wait a little bit longer to flag him down to get our check. Cons: We went on a Sunday night and it was surprisingly loud. There is no sound dampening in the building and with loud music and two large parties in the big room with us, we couldn't hear ourselves think. Luckily, I have earplugs in my purse, which helped, but after an exhausting week and weekend, this atmosphere was too much for us and we had to leave earlier than we wanted. People without noise sensitivities may find it fun and energizing, so take this review with a grain of salt. Overall, we enjoyed our food and would like to go back with our friends to try their table side guac, but I'm a little hesitant since I'm not sure what the noise level is at any given point. I guess we'll see! read more

Prices for food and margaritas are very reasonable and the service is excellent. This restaurant is well managed and very popular.

Food was just fine. The service is what got us. We ordered the lunch burritos ( this was lunch time) and literally pointed at it while ordering. Got the bill and was questioning where an extra $8 was coming from. The server said, oh you got dinner not lunch plates. I said "that's not what we told you we wanted and we showed you on the menu what we wanted." Well he didn't want to make it right by changing the bill nor even apologize for getting it wrong. We were mad but didn't want to cause a scene while taking family out on a special occasion. I have never had a server force me to pay for something I clearly didn't ask for. read more

Food was alright, the male server was uncomfortable he "accidentally" touched my wife and I didn't make a deal out of it then. She wanted me to drop it but it doesn't feel like an accident. Will not be coming back. It was nice on the inside. read more

Decided to give this place a try. Very busy and happening place. The waitress was okay and not so friendly. Service could improve. Chips were cold and stale and we had to ask for fresh ones. I like that they prepare guacamole in front of you and you choose what you want in it. Made fresh and tasty. I tried their pollo poblano and the chicken and vegetable was tasty except for the sauce in it was salty. They give you plenty of meat for the beef fajita. Pricing is great. Large portion meals. And let me not forget about their charro beans. I am usually picky but it was tasty and delicious. Will come again to try a different meal. read more

Yes. Yes. Yes. Always fast! Always delicious! Always great service!! One of our favorite date night spots.

This place is crazy busy! Even then, they got us right in and got our food out quickly. Portions are very big and the waiter didn't write a thing down and remembered every detail. We will be back for sure! read more

We've been eating at Mexico Viejo for years. Always great food, great service, and very affordable. A few years ago we were getting sick after our meals. Stopped going for a few years (during the pandemic). Began going again last year 2023 and everything was back to normal. I adore the manager Saul, such a sweetheart. Our servers Jamie, Cesar, Lahlo, Olga...(I know I'm missing a few names) are wonderful people. If your meal or beverage isn't what you expected, tell your server and they'll make it right. If you like alcoholic drinks, theirs are very good and very reasonable $. We tend to eat there more often on the weekdays as "quiet" (birthdays, etc, can get pretty noisy). Overall, a great Mexican restaurant in Wichita. read more

I use to love this place.. like my favorite restaurant..then I kept having experiences where I had to speak up.. which felt intentional. My son ordered a side of guacamole for his meal and we were charged for a dip (4.50). In 2024 a few months after we started going there they changed the menu.. and increased the prices.. and portions got smaller.. now suddenly no limes (wtf) and no grenadine ie; cherry flavor.. the wait staff has always been good for the most part but I notice things that seem sketchy so I'm out.. it was fun while it lasted. Love the crew at Viejo!! Good people and GREAT food!! Get the Ranchero Special and you will NOT be disappointed!

The more I think about the place the more angry I get. Seeing the good reviews is very deceiving. The waitress staff was wonderful and patient but the manager and quality of food was poor. The food was soggy. The chili relleno was inedible. The alcohol beverages were not up to par for the price. The restaurant was nice and not too loud. Tons of space. We had no wait for our large group of 11. But No one was able to finish their food and everyone woke up feeling a tad sick. When trying to ask for help we were blown off by the manager that didn't care at all. Thank goodness for the nice waitress who explained the new kitchen staff. Not that it helped the situation. Half of us were from out of town and the other half lives in town. No one will be returning to this place. Word of advice. Dont order anything you'd like to be crunchy. Be sure to have silverware for everything bc nothing can be picked up like it should be. (tostada, quesadilla, or hard taco) Dont order anything from the specialty drink menu bc you will not get what you pay for. Unless it's bottled beer. We were really hoping for a good meal but like others have mentioned there are WAY better options in town. read more

Honestly wasn't a huge fan of this place. I chose to dine here because I was craving Mexican food at the time. Their table side guacamole and chips and salsa were yummy. I ordered the taco salad with the grilled chicken and steak mixed - wasn't a fan of how the meat was cooked. I should've done a vegetarian dish instead. Their fried items are pretty greasy too. read more

Note: This review will only be over food and service as I did not dine in. I was on the west side of town and wanted to pick up some fast Mexican food. Mexico Viejo was the first to show up on my Google search and it had fairly good reviews. I gave them a call, and a nice gentleman answered and took my order. There was a little confusion here and there but things turned out alright after I asked for him to confirm my order. Again, I'm not sure what's up with me and the rain but it was raining pretty badly on my way to the restaurant. The parking lot was PACKED, which in a way was reassuring. I walked in and was welcomed by the workers at the front. One of them gave me my order. After paying, I turned around to see the door already held open for me by one of the workers. They all smiled and told me to have a nice day. What great service! I ordered one tamale because I knew I was going to be full from my other order. The tamale itself was yummy, but the ground beef and sauce that covered it diminished the taste of the shredded pork, and not in a good way either. Overall I didn't enjoy it too much. The flautas were tasty, but not as crunchy as I wanted. Not only that, the shell did not blanket the meat very well which made the meat fall very easily. It was sloppy. It was filling and flavorful nevertheless. The price was definitely unbeatable due to the service and food portion. I can totally see why they receive a lot of love from locals. read more

Decided to try this place for dinner based on all the good reviews. Started off with a margaritas on the rocks. One of the better margaritas I've had. Once we ordered our food came out pretty quickly. I ordered the Fajitas Jalisco which is steak, chicken, and shrimp. Very good, and I have plenty left for dinner tomorrow. Prices were also quite reasonable! read more

We came Sunday afternoon about 5:15pm. This place was really busy! Sign says they can have 206 people in this establishment. The hostess was so busy but keeping it all together. We were seated in 15 mins. Big parties were coming in and waiting. Parties from 8-16. All the staff was really great. Smiling and assuring everyone was happy. Chips and salsa were good. Husband has Chile Rellano and burrito combo, I had taco and chicken fajita. All good. The chicken was seasoned and stuffed in the tortilla. Both were get 2 combos for $9.99. I don't know what the problem was but on Sunday Sept 1, had to wait 15 minutes to order and at least another 50 minutes for the food, even though other who arrived after us were already eating. Forgot one drink and my wife had to go to the bar to complain since the waitress was not to be found. Even though we've eaten there many times before, this experience will make us think twice before going back. read more

Absolutely excellent. Service was amazing and the margarita was the best I've had in town! The authentic setting was great as well

The food is always amazing and we always have excellent service! This is our favorite Mexican place in Wichita.

Turns out you don't have to be Mexican or old to eat here! Service was top notch. They were busy as all get out but we didn't have to wait too long for our food. I had the taquitos mexicanos and literally lost my mind! I'm full right now. Kinda have a good food baby goin on but considering ordering more for the road. My wife had something a white chick would eat like a taco or something but I tried her charro beans and didn't give them back. They were freaking amazing! I think I'm turning Mexican after eating these. Si. Ya es claro! Estoy mexicano ya! You gotta try this place! read more

We have eaten here before but today was a big disappointment. The service was terrible as were we initially presented with someone else's order. Then when we got our order it was lukewarm at best and the quality was just not the usual. The service industry is reeling and good help is hard to find. I hope this place gets their act together and focuses on service and food quality once again. read more

We love this place!! The food is delicious and the service excellent and fast! Great teamwork!!....and we eat here a lot:)

Good food, yet inexpensive. The service is also very good and their margaritas are also on point.

Terrific food, great service and a good value. We have been several times and they never fail to impress.

This is my "go to" Mexican restaurant in Wichita. Best food, salsa, and margaritas. Patty is the best margarita maker ever! A must try!
