If you have tried Mexican food from the country Mexico.... you'll probably want to read this before you visit this location. If you haven't... well, maybe you'll want to read it too...
Went with normal expectations of Mexican food (lived in Mexico for more than 9 yrs), so I'm aware that there isn't really an authentic Mexican restaurant in PR.
When we arrived the hostess took really good care of us, sat us down to a nice table and asked us if we wanted anything to drink before ordering, and of course we order Cerveza Sol and a Margarita! She came back with the drinks and some chips and sauce (delicious green sauce!).
We ordered our meal with her and she mentioned who was going to be our server and told us to enjoy the time.
Appetizers came. Probably like 10 mins waiting for it (still no introduction of our server, mind you place is empty).
So I'm going to start breaking our evening down:
1. Drinks:
*Cerveza Sol - not really much I can say about that... just good beer from Mexico ;)
*Margarita - good one, pretty balanced, though I gotta say....beware it's made with Jose Cuervo :|
2. Appetizers:
*Queso fundido - Pretty good and delicious! Chips were crispy and yummy. and the green sauce was spicy and flavorful!
*Sopa de Tortilla - ... was more like a caldo/broth. Had a fried tortilla sliced in half and cheese melted in the bottom. Nothing else. Kinda a let down since this soup tends to have soooo much flavor to it!
Up to here... everything is nice!! :) (Still our server was nowhere to be found, still place is empty).
We probably waited 20/25 mins from our meal (tacos). We asked our server who finally decided to pass by us and ask if everything was okay... So we joked saying that everything would be better if we had our tacos, to which she answered "it's being prepared"... and left without asking if we wanted another round of drinks or anything else.
15 mins passed by and we saw the hostess nearby, so we decided to ask her if our meal was ready. She's the one that went to check and in like 5 mins our meal was served. So... now to the breakdown of the food.
3. Tacos:
*Pastor - hmm. Dry, without any flavor, so no cinnamon. No pineapple. Too much onion, lettuce, tomato and cilantro. Just overall no no.
*Carnitas - Dry, no orange flavor... And did I mentioned... dry? And once again too much onion, lettuce, tomato and cilantro.
*Fish - Fish would've been good if it wasn't extremely salty. Like just caught from the sea and thrown into more salt just to cure it :| Lettuce was alright and the mayo spicy sauce was good... but that salt was waay too overpowering.
*Carne Molida de Res - So... it was dry, no flavor and of course waay too much lettuce, onion, tomato and cilantro. I think you'd be better off eating from Taco Bell or Taco Maker (if im PR).
Oh, and mind you... Carnitas, Pastor and Fish all have an extra cost to the price of tacos.
Never once did our serve came to our table to check if the food was okay, or if we needed something. The hostess came to pick up our plates and we told her we didn't want the extra Carne Molida taco since it was not good at all. Thankfully another server came by our table and asked us if we wanted to try another taco as a substitute, however we declined and she was the one to take that taco out of our bill.
Never once did our server or the manager came by to check on us, to apologize nor to just talk to us.
Restaurant was practically empty and there were 3 servers, manager and the hostess. You have 5 people for like 5/6 tables in the whole place... so she had a lot of time in her hands to be attentive with her tables (I know because I've been in the industry for years).
The only reason why this restaurant gets 1 star is for the hostess service... and because of the Queso Fundido...
Please do yourself a favor and do not go to this place, unless you want to just eat appetizers and have a drink. read more
