Zero line to get into Mexico, literally just drive thru. Its the coming back to the US that is a pain. It took us about an hour to get thru. Tons of vendors selling, aguas frescas, churros, blankets ect. Tons of kids asking for money (sad part) 1) make sure you have a full tank of gas before you enter that line 2) make sure you go to the bathroom before you get in line 3) when approaching the border patrol officers have your passport ready 4) as of 7/12/20 you can cross into the US with a US ID and birth certificate/passport not needed (however passport is best)

While our stay in LA we've decided to make a trip to San Diego and see Mexico. We've read a lot in internet "how to travel to Mexico". It's possible to go by bus or by feet. So we've decided walking across the border and having authentic dinner. Got into Mexico was super easy and felt safe this side. Unfortunately it got dark early and recommend to go earlier across the border. Way back we were waiting about 2 hours to enter the US border control. I was really happy when we arrived the border area because some places felt us super insecure (as European). We had to walk trough some dark spots which we can't avoid. I will never miss this experience and is a lifetime story to tell. Please be careful. Border control on both sides where super friendly to us.

Ay ya ya ya....Mexico! Border...it is a love and hate. I love the goodies along the way....Mexican candy, razoados (shaved ice), fruit, candy...oh and candy. Dislike....long lines, what the French...why so long sometimes? EH, it is what it is. What I recommend...have a DD, a flask and some awesome people to play games with in the car. That is key to making time fly. Well I am sure you get the point...can take long so cross between 2-5pm or check the radio stations for "approximate time." Have fun!

Pedestrian Entry to Mexico at San Yisdro, CA

Came to the US-Mexico border near San Yisdro for my I-94 renewal. The whole process is fairly straight forward with a little bit of wait time. If you have a VALID US VISA on your passport and need renewal of your I-94 then it's a convenient location to get it done. I came here for my I-94 renewal because: 1. I got an I-94 expiry date upon arrival in San Francisco as per my passport expiry date though I had a VISA expiry date 3 years later than the passport expiry date. 2. I renewed my passport in US and needed an extension of I-94 as per my VISA expiry date. For I-94 renewal: 1. Go to San Diego, drive near the US-Mexico border near San Yisdro. You can take I5 or take an earlier exit 'Dairy Mart Road' and then take a left turn on 'Camino De La Plaza'. This will take you near the international border. 2. DO NOT enter to Mexico with your car. Park your car on the US side. There are 2-3 parking lots offering 12 hrs parking for 10-15$. 3. Go near the 'New Pedestrian Path to Mexico' and keep following the entry to Mexico signs. Go through the revolving gates and enter Mexico. You do not need a Mexico VISA if you are going to stay for less than 72 hours in Mexico. 4. Once you step into the Mexican side take a U-Turn and go near the gate for entering into US. It has signboards as 'SENTRI' / 'I-94 permits'. There is a separate queue for people who need I-94 renewal. You can ask the CBP officers at the gate and they will point you the right queue if you can't find the right one. 5. Take the above queue and enter the CBP office. You need to pay $6/person for the renewal of I-94. 6. The whole process of entering into Mexico and coming back to the US side takes around 2-3 hours depending upon the number of people in queue.

Going into mexico wasn't so bad and surprisingly everything was pretty organized. Not sure if it was because i was in a bus or not.

If you're exchanging US dollars for Mexican pesos, the exchange houses on the US side actually give better rates.

Alan, who owns this company, immediately responded to my inquiry about a cost estimate for a round trip pick up and drop off from Chula Vista to the TJ airport. The price was very reasonable and at first I was hesitant to book since I could not find reviews online but reading his website I made the decision to book with him and I'm glad I did! Alan picked me up promptly and even agreed to pick up my family at another location nearby. I found out that he lives in TJ with his family so he knows the area well and that he has been taking people not only to the airport in TJ but also drive people (including some businessmen) around the city and beyond (Ensanada, Rosarito, etc) I paid him half when he dropped us off at the airport and then the rest when he dropped us home after we came back from our trip. I would definitely book another service with him the next time I fly from Tijuana or even a day trip to the southern part of Baja California.

Like others I found this fellow on tripadvisors and most were good reviews. But in this case Alan, the owner, left four of us stranded at TIJ airport Sunday, Dec. 5 @ 7:30pm with no phone calls or messages alerting me of a problem, and I had pre-paid in advance with Paypal as he insisted! He was late by 35 minutes picking us up in San Ysidro for the transfer to TIJ airport on our outbound flight a week earlier, which could have, but didn't tip me off yet to his false promise of service. Do NOT trust him or his service the way we did unless you prefer lip service to real service. I have still NOT received a phone call or message, apologizing or explaining what went wrong...even a lame excuse would have been better than none. There was NO MISCOMMUNICATION with pick-up day or time on our return either. I sent two emails which he confirmed weeks earlier, talked with him about it on the ride to TIJ and a third email while in Mexico reminding him of the pick-up on Sunday. Needles to say, for the first visit to Tijuana Airport and arriving at night to get abandoned by your transfer company turned out to be a harrowing experience for my wife, her older sister (age 60), brother-in-law (age 65) and myself. From transfer across the border to hoofing it on foot with all our luggage was not a pretty sight. Stay CLEAR OF THIS GUY AND HIS COMPANY!! He talks a good line but does not deliver.

We worked with Cathy and while trying to decide on a destination (we had several on our list), were impressed at her in depth knowledge of what seemed to be everything related to traveling. She's very passionate and experienced as a traveler, as well as in her field as an agent. Her advice and insight definitely led us to feeling confident in all of our planning decisions. Cathy put together several itineraries for us and was always available, with a quick turn around time whenever we had any questions. Working with a travel agency can also be really pricey, but Carefree will work with you to customize a package that will fit within your budget. I especially appreciated Cathy's patience and all of the time she spent with us, whether it was communicating in person, on the phone, or email. Thank you again, Cathy, for making the planning of our honeymoon such a breeze.

The woman who said she could help me didn't even let me finish stating my problem (not even halfway through) when she just started nodding her head vigorously and saying she wouldn't help me. I walked out less than 5 minutes after I walked in. It was rude, disrespectful, and unprofessional to not even let me ask her my question. Not to mention that when I walked in, there were about 4 people there but no one attempted to help me until after a solid 30 seconds of standing there like a deer in the headlights. I took my business elsewhere (to VeryBest Travel in Bonita, CA) and they were not only willing to solve my problem, but did so in less than an hour. It doesn't cost anything to be nice and to hear a customer out to see if you can help them. Obviously, my problem wasn't so "impossible" to solve that less than an hour later another travel agency was able to help me and did solve my problem. Needless to say, I will NEVER be returning here.
