The restaurant is cute inside. I think I was there on a training day, there were so very many staff working but not a lot of attention or speed in response. Outside was nice you get a nice breeze and can people watch. The ambiance was casual. The food was super mediocre. I just don't think they cooked anything with any intention or particular flavor. The meat in the burrito was in two massive chunks and the beans and rice were al dente. I enjoyed the margarita special and they had a banana one which is fun and novel. I would recommend looking further afield if you are eating. But the drinks are good if that's what you are there for. read more

Wish I read reviews here before I had fajitas on the brain. Sat outside -pleasant night but people were smoking and vaping in the eating area. Sticky dirty menu. Ordered a margarita (best part of the meal even though it was weak and allegedly patron). Ordered the shrimp fajitas with guacamole and queso. When you receive your fajitas anywhere, part of the enjoyment is getting a plate of fresh sizzling hot food. Not here. Not one sizzle and shrimp looking half cooked. Guacamole was packaged and plastic tasting. Salsa was decent. Queso was marginal. Worst part was seeing the uncleaned shrimp. Stopped acting at that point!! Everything about this restaurant screams Mexican restaurant, and (worst of all), kind of Mexican stereotype. Lots of Coronoa stuff, lots of bright lights and sombrero type decor. In all very kitschy and over the top. The drink menu is large and very Mexican themed -- Tecate, Dos Equis, Negro Modelo, drinks that come in fish bowls and lots of options that end in "-arita." That said, the drinks seemed pretty solid, and I did appreciate that my Tecate came with a lime without me asking. Food-wise the menu is almost overwhelming it is so big. There seems to be a smattering of everything Mexican you might want -- salad, guacamole, enchiladas, tacos, etc. You can order pretty much anything you can think of in any combination you can think of. I ordered the dos enchiladas platter, which came with two enchiladas, beans, rice and the general sour cream, lettuce, tomato smattering. The ground beef enchilada was actually my favorite. Flavorful and nicely textured. The pulled beef was kind of dry and not as flavorful. All came smothered in this white sauce that actually in an odd way reminded me of a bechamel. It was fairly tasty, but not exactly Mexican in my book. I did enjoy that they brought free chips and salsa to the table right away (though my friend did comment that they seemed to be tortilla chips out of a bag rather than homemade, and I think she is correct.) One very positive note: Our waiter, Matt W., per my receipt, was excellent. Accommodating in every which way. Let me start off by saying this is NOT authentic Mexican food, so please do not identify it as that. If you're looking for great Americanized Mexican food, this is the place to go. Mexican Village has been around for as long as I can remember. I love the inside of this place-so colorful and festive. The food will satisfy your cravings and the drinks are tasty. I always like to get the margaritas or pitchers to share when I come here. Depending on which day of the week you visit, you can take advantage of their drink specials. The margarita bowls will warm you up real fast because they're pretty boozy. The food is your typical cheesy meaty burritos, chimichangas, quesadillas, etc. Nothing about the selection is out of the ordinary. The menu is huge though, so take the time to look through it before ordering. Bring your birthday celebrations to this place and you'll be a happy camper. Your guests will love the drinks, and you'll love your free birthday meal. It feels like half of Mexican Village's reputation in town exists because of the free birthday meals they give out. Note: When coming here in the spring/summer months, beware that there might be bees outside. The staff will warn you, but proceed with caution. My friend and I chose to sit outside on the patio, and there were definitely bees out there. They may ruin your meal, so ask the staff if there are bees before you choose to sit outside, no matter how nice the weather is. read more

My sister's birthday brought me here, as they give out a free entree and Fried ice cream on one's Birthday. Just show ID. Ordered jumbo margarita and it was good blended. Long menus bug me, I ordered overpriced fish tacos at $11 something. The description was mahi mahi with coleslaw. What arrived was 2 corn tortillas with fish, coleslaw, onions, and grated cheese and they were sloppy. They were good after I picked onions and most shredded cheese out. Canned black beans and Zatarrans rice was with it. The chips with the free chips and salsa were bagged chips not fresh. My sister's free fajitas were skimpy on the tortillas and she needed to ask for more. The fried ice cream is always good as it's with cornflakes. This place's food quality has gone downhill. Mexican Village is one of the best places in St Cloud to get Mexican cuisine. It may not be authentic, but it tastes awesome! My husband and I love the Dip Trios appetizer. You are able to select three of the dip offerings to enjoy. It is a great way to afford more than one dip and have something other than salsa to use with the chips. All the menu items I have had are wonderful. My only complaint is that at times, the table feel too close together and it feels like you are sitting on top of each other. read more

Palets change as you grow older and move away and try new foods. I was recently home for a visit and had to come back to my old stomping pre party margaritas and food favorite! It is not authentic mexican food it is americanized mexican food which is fine with me for this instance. Same with the olive garden is not authentic italian food! I've never had to douse salsa with hot sauce before but I did here. For my entree I ordered the steak fajita burrito and it was a hot mess of very little rice, some black beans, and a generous portion of fatty, gristly meat. The service was almost adequate. The ambience was tacky and loud. And apparently this is THE place to go for birthdays because our waiter spent more time singing for people with the rest of the wait staff than he did being a waiter. Not his fault, just the way it is. But the most unnerving was the persistent strobe light effects with the ceiling fans against the lights. I actually got woozy just sitting there. I do not understand why people like this place so much. I stopped in here after a concert once, mostly because I was convinced this is the best Mexican restaurant in St. Cloud. While that still may be true, it's not saying much. Hopefully I'm not off-brand in saying this, but by the looks of the decor and the taste of the food, you can TELL this place is a Mexican restaurant owned by white folks rather than one owned by Mexican-Americans, and run by Mexican-Americans; and it really shows. The cheese instead of Monterrey jack is shredded cheddar (too thin by the way), the meat lacks any spices, and everything on the menu is just dull and lifeless. Combine that with tacky, un-unified decor, long wait times, and far too high prices, and I see no reason to ever come back here. read more

I don't understand the complaints. I have frequently visited St.Cloud over the past 40 years and this has consistently been my favorite local restaurant. Went tonight for the first time in several years and found it every bit has good as ever. Chips were great, service was quick, and food was great. I had Pollo Fundido, my wife had chicken enchiladas. There was a delicious cream cheese based red sauce, that wasn't authentic, but was it good. If you're all hung up about authentic, then go to Mexico, don't look for it in the upper Midwest. Don't come here expecting anything remotely resembling authentic Mexican cuisine, come here instead for Minnesota Mexican Fillage. All 100 menu options are basically the same three ingredients (ground beef, tortilla, cheese) assembled in a different order and smothered with sauce. The food is priced reasonably but barely edible.
