Of note is the quality of their meats, which is consistently of better quality than any of their competitors and has always been cooked to perfection. the only thing comparable to the food is the service. Every person I've encountered has been friendly, kind, and attentive. As for the ambiance, they've done wonders in transforming the space from the previous iteration of Dennys. It is bright and lovely without being overbearing. I will continue to return to Don Juan's as they've earned my family's support in every way possible.

And seeing how extensively the former Denny's Restaurant was remodeled you definitely get that large corporate feeling. This is not your Mom & Pop's home-town restaurant effort. But that corporate feeling begins to fade somewhat while you are dining. The staff are friendly, helpful, and appear to be enjoying themselves as evidenced by some of them singing along to the authentic Mexican background music. The menu is huge! Would you believe 20 pages of drinks and food? Fortunately, there are photos for almost every dish, so you have no problem wondering what it is that you are ordering. Besides, most of the offerings are Tex-Mex dishes which Americans are quite familiar with by now, e.g., tacos, burritos, enchiladas, fajitas, quesadillas, and chimichangas. One thing that I found puzzling was that tamales were only available in each of the three Combo dishes. You apparently cannot order tamales singularly. Upon being seated, we were promptly served complimentary chips along with a red salsa and a refried bean dip with cheese, pepper, and tomato. The salsa had no spicing at all. We each ordered a large (24 oz.) draft Modelo Especial ($10 each). My initial test of a Mexican restaurant is to try a dish with their Mole and compare it with memories of the home cooked meal I was served by a close Mexican friend more than 30 years ago. However, I had wanted to also try something more than the Pollo Mole at Don Juan's. I zeroed in on Tampiqueña ($27); a marinated grilled steak and a mole enchilada coated in their house made Tia Maria Mole sauce. The dish was also served with refried beans, rice, lettuce, tomato, green onions, and guacamole in place of sliced avocado. The steak was pounded very thin so that the likely tougher cut that was used was not overly chewy. The flavors however, with the grilling and marinade were quite tasty. The enchilada was filled with tender chicken, and the mole coating on the flour tortilla was more sweet than savory as opposed to what I would have expected from a more traditional chicken and mole combination. I guess it was the Tia Maria. Once again, I did not notice any spiciness . I was also provided with a container of four fresh, warm, flour tortillas. While I'm not a fan of flour tortillas these were the best flour tortillas I've ever encountered. My wife ordered the Tacos Al Pastor ($21), choosing steak over pork or chicken, topped with pico de gallo and fresh cabbage in corn tortillas. The three tacos were also served with rice, lettuce, and tomato. The red salsa served on the side had no spiciness. However, a second container of salsa more brownish in color had plenty of spiciness. She was very pleased with her meal. One additional item on the dessert list called out to me from the moment I saw it on the menu. Sopapillas ($9), as served here, they are triangular shaped pastry dusted with cinnamon sugar, whipped cream, and a drizzle of chocolate sauce. They were tasty and enjoyable but nothing like what I first encountered in a Mexican restaurant more than 55 years ago in Albuquerque, New Mexico. There they were a basket of fried dough morsels served to us before our meal, with honey to be poured on them. YUM! Overall, we were pleased with our Tex-Mex experience and are very likely to return to try some additional menu items. If you want spicy, be sure to request the appropriate salsa.

First time coming here on our way back from Herkimer, New York…read more Jose was our server and he was amazing. We saw a sign on the door that if you danced your way to your table, you got something free... So we danced! We got a free taco and a free shot! We started off with the patron tree and ordered mango, peach, raspberry, and strawberry. We opted for on the rocks versus frozen. All of them were very good not overly sweet. For apps, we got chips and homemade salsa with the diablito queso (jalapeños) We ordered the Birria tacos, and the three taco combination with Carnitas and tacos al Pastor. There's a cute little photo station and a chill bar set up.

On our second visit, we asked for napkins 3 times, and the server said sure and just never came back with them. Without any explanation our server was changed out mid meal with another, and she was much better. Immediately had our empty waters filled and asked if we were ready for another round of drinks. The contrast was adult identifiable. Food here is good and comes out fast and piping hot. Service needs some tuning and it wasn't slammed during both of my visits. They seem ti have plenty of servers and help on duty, but they all seem running around but not doing what is needed to tend to the tables/guests. I will go back and again, the food is good and value/price for portion and quality very reasonable.

We couldn't decide from the awesome choices but I finally decided on Carne Al carbon tacos and beef nachos and my husband got the chicken fajita quesadilla. OMG we haven't eaten here since we first started dating in 2021 and it was mid. This time it was absolutely amazing. So amazing that everything looked so good and we forgot to take a picture. But trust me when I say every flavor was on point. We argued about who's driving home so the other can sleep. Thank you for an amazing date night filled with good food, good vibes, great service and amazing food.

Upon arrival you'll receive complimentary chips and salsa. It was fresh as the chips were warm and I could taste the fresh ingredients in the salsa. We ordered the carne asada and the Baja tacos (and the enchiladas verdes to go based on hot good the food was). The carne asada was fantastic, and it came with rice, beans, and tortillas. The Baja tacos were delicious and came with a super spicy sauce (they did have a lot of onions which was my only drawback). We ended the night with a special strawberry tres leches for Valentine's Day. It's not something I would have typically ordered but I do love tres leches and this did not disappoint - it was amazing. All in all excellent food you'll be glad you came for the food! A few other notes- the inside of the restaurant is pretty and draws on what I've seen in other Mexican restaurants. Staff were so friendly and had the perfect balance of checking in with us to letting us eat our meal. There is a small bar area that is separate from the dining area. Street parking only but there seemed to be plenty of spots. However, I would try to park as close as possible to the restaurant as the neighborhood itself didn't seem like the greatest. We had no issues during our experience but just something to consider. Overall I really liked this place and will definitely return!

Although the Capital Region has barely any Mexican street food places, I think this one takes the cake. I love that it's hidden behind a bus stop on the corner of Central and North Allen. I love that you need to walk through a narrow hallway to order and that you have to speak Spanish because no one in there speaks English. It reminds me of brighter days... literally, brighter... in a place with actual sunlight. The walls are orange: perfect. There are random boxes of avocadoes and other grocery store items scattered throughout the dining area: hilarious. The entire menu is in Spanish, so as long as you can point, you can order. The music, the broken TV, the fact that the cashier was scrolling through Instagram as she checked me out and talked on the landline phone and asked me if I wanted anything else, all in Spanish: great. Let's be real. This place gets 5 stars for memories of the SW USA. It gets 5 stars for being completely authentic. If there was a similar place in the area, I likely wouldn't award 5 stars but I felt completely transported into hopefully a version of Mexico that I was very pleased. The tortillas are not perfect. The presentation is definitely perfect and traditional with onions, cilantro, radishes, and hot sauce. You can get lengua tacos. Good luck finding those closer than 100 miles from here. Check it out if you want something very different from what you're used to, but go with an open mind. This isn't a 5-star place, but it's a 5-star experience and I'm very grateful for its presence in the area.
