I ordered a skirt online. I got the ugliest thing I've ever seen in the mail: bright yellow with a couple black eyeballs on it. It didn't slightly even resemble the beautiful red and dark blue skirt in the photo, which had a little bit of gold in it. It was a classic bait-and-switch, for which they take NO RESPONSIBILITY. It was apparently all my fault. After all, they had a "color dot" that somehow told me I could have gotten this. They said they were quite clear on their end. read more

Really nice, super unique and somewhat interestingly located hippie/ worldly jewelry, clothing, relic store next to the picturesque village of Damariscotta. Nice selection of worldy goods, unique clothing, and a lot of cool t-shirts. Also got that kinda Nag Champa smell, with a selection of incenses if your into that type of thing. This place is just awesome - a hippy haven in the middle of nowhere. Driving by on the highway it's hard to miss... all sorts of colorful things flowing in the wind from tie-dyed Grateful Dead tees to ultra comfy hanging hammock chairs. Inside you'll find everything from incense and hand drums to sarongs and jewelry. Oh the jewelry. What a selection of gorgeous pieces from around the world, all reasonably priced (as in, very easy to come across true finds for under $100). You could spend an entire day browsing the selection at Mexicali, and the delightful staff will help you with anything you need. Props to the owners for taking pride in sustainable and fair-trade goods! On top of all the accessories, you can find some great teak furniture here and carved wooden items. You'd be hard pressed not find the perfect gift here, almost no matter who you're buying for. If you're in the area, this place is definitely worth checking out. I've been going to this particular Mexicali Blues for years, every summer. It's always been a part of my vacation itinerary. I typically spend $100-$200 or more on jewelry and clothes and household items. This year was a bit disappointing. I went last year, mid-COVID, and had a better experience. There wasn't much new or interesting stock this time, which may be COVID-related. And this time the employees were young, and disinterested. This may be a result of not being able to find people to work for low wages and no benefits. I don't know what MB's HR policies are, so I'll just leave that there. There were many customers when I came in (at least two groups, plus me and my partner). There were I think 3 people working. Two were at the jewelry counter. One of them was helping the other order something from MB online for herself. I know this based on the conversation I heard as I browsed the jewelry. They did stop long enough to ask me if I needed any help. But then continued on to decide if she should order from the warehouse or from another store. No mingling with the customers, asking them if they needed anything, they actually were in a little meeting by themselves. There was a 3rd person working who I didn't realize was an employee at first, I thought she was a customer. When I saw her wander behind the counter, I asked her if there was a skirt in the size I needed, as none were on the rack. She said, "We may have it down in the back, but we may not. I'm not sure. Do you want me to check?" She obviously didn't want to but yes, I wouldn't have asked if I didn't want the skirt.....She came back and said, "No we don't have it. Sorry." What she did not say was, "Would you like me to see if it's at one of our other stores? Or I can order it and have it shipped to you." Which is what is supposed to be in the script, given my experience over the past umpteen years......I left at that point. Maybe I'll order the skirt online, maybe not.....But she certainly lost an opportunity for the company. But again, not sure what MB's HR policies are. And she seemed like maybe she'd just started working there, and maybe she'd had no one coaching her. The other two were not at all involved in providing service so I'm not sure if anyone has been there to guide her. read more

To start off, the place as beautiful merchandise. But the reason my shopping experience was unenjoyable, stressful and had me considering leaving the store, was the unnecessarily rude staff. When you walk in, you aren't even acknowledged, I made a point of greeting them and didn't even receive a bare "hello". When I would ask questions I given a one word answer like they were annoyed I was even asking. As I shopped, I was followed, watched and made very uncomfortable. Anytime I neatly refolded a shirt or tapestry after looking at it, I was given dirty glances and they immediately came to fold it after me. I decided to give the benefit of the doubt, and still purchase the items solely because I needed to get out of there. When I placed my product on the counter, the staff noticed me but just kept folding their clothes behind the counter. I waited, making eye contact with them for at least 2 minutes before I said, "hello, I am ready." They sighed and put down whatever they were doing and slowly walked over to check out my clothes as if it were a chore. When I asked if they take cash, they looked at me as if I had three eyes and harshly said "no." I quickly walked out without even a bare, thanks for buying! And felt their eyes burn into my back. I absolutely love their product (even if it on the expensive side for cheap things) but I just cannot bring my self to go back because of how awful the shopping experience was. I really hope they see this, so they will never have to make any other human feel as humiliated and uncomfortable by simply walking into their store. read more

We had another great experience here! The customer service was excellent and some of the associates stopped what they were doing and went down and talked and played with my baby. They're very sociable and friendly. I highly recommend this store! I also love the fact there is all kinds of hippie things and bumper stickers that encourage to help save the world. read more
