Prices have gone up as with the times, but there are some great chotkes to be had. It is always great to walk to the back of the store to look out the window at the pier and its goings on while thinking whether the grand kids would like the plush lobster or the puffin better. It does carry some t-shirts and trinket type items but most of the inventory is centered around higher quality and practical clothing. The company has been around since 1902 and is perhaps most famous for it's wide selection of warm and quality sweaters. Definitely something people need to survive the winters up here. There are also heaps of shoes and boots, scarves, warm socks, hats, swimwear, sun glasses, watches and of course high quality long underwear. I even saw some life jackets in the store. Definitely a wide variety of different and very useful items. The prices here vary but tend to reflect the higher quality of the merchandise. Jansons isn't a good place to find trinkets and souvenirs but it is a great store to find quality clothing to keep your butt warm during the cold Maine winters.

He has very dark skin and the lady following him was a blond (so am I) older lady and it was the most stereotypical racism. She never asked if he needed help or even smiled or tried to even act professional. My parents live nearby and we've been visiting them here the entire 20 yrs we've been married. This salesperson made him feel like a felon. He takes care of children who have cancer as his career but I guess they weren't interested in anything more than his skin color. I guess at least she has her job instead of his.

My friend tried on some pants, but decided to put them back. Then, she left the store as she was done shopping, and wanted some air. After I stepped out of the fitting room, my friends were all standing in a group, ready for me to buy my dress and leave together. Then, the worker asked "where's the little girl that tried on the farmer pants?" "She went outside," replied one of my friends. Out of nowhere, the worker was fuming, demanding "well where did she put the pants!?" My friend replied, guessing that she had hung them back up. "Well you better find where she put them!" screamed the worker in my friends face. My friend replied "excuse me!?" The worker repeated herself, and my friend rightfully said "she wouldn't steal them." "BULLSHIT" screamed the worker in the groups face, and said "get out of here, all of you!" Because I was away from the group, I just stood there in shock as she ushered my friends out. A moment later, the friend that tried on the pants showed the worker exactly where she had left them. I was about to walk out and not give her my business, but she basically insisted I buy my items, offering me a discount, and spouting a half-hearted apology. However, that discount was already in place as the whole store was 25% off, despite her insistence that it was just for me. Though I appreciate her apology, maybe she should have said sorry to the person she accused of stealing, and the people who she swore at and kicked out. Furthermore, said she's "I'm not normally like this," but the Google reviews speak otherwise . . .

The staff is helpful but unintrusive; if you want pants to match a shirt they will scour the store until they find exactly what you are looking for, and then leave you alone to shop your heart out some more. These people could give lessons on customer service to salespeople everywhere. I wish we had stores like this in every state, but then that would spoil its uniqueness.

There was a such a vast collection of wonderful high end purses, shoes, clothing including some sweet children's options. The owner was so knowledgeable and seems to have a great deal of experience as a fashion stylist. She even talked me out of a dress option because she said if it didn't "wow" me, then I might not wear it. I ended up with three beautiful things to add to my wardrobe. I'll definitely go back.
