The Sijf (Syf) is a great place to hang out and to enjoy watching the people passing by, since it…read moreis located in a nice little street, a pedestrian promenade in the old town of Rotterdam. It is a Bar and Restaurant and therefore it provides food ranging from sandwiches and toasts to bigger meals and coffees as well as desserts. The staff is very friendly and willing to help and the whole establishment is built in an artsy decorated old town house with nice stucco and mosaic facade. Its location in the center of Rotterdam makes the Sijf a perfect place from which you can go to the upper part of Rotterdam's center city as well as down to the old port, with its ships. It is located in the middle of both. The Cappuccino I had was very delicious served with a shot of cream-topped liquor as a side and a cookie, and the Hot Chocolate is also super-delicious served with a cream-top as well. The prices of both as well as the other prices are reasonable. Also the inside of the pub is great, since it features this nice old wood on two floors creating an elegant and stylish atmosphere to spend also a longer stretch of time in this establishment. Tables are put very close so need some adjustments with how you can fit your body accordingly , but it is very cozy. I liked it. We drank two beers and enjoyed vegetarian bitterballen with it. Their menu has a lot of options to select from which is great and a reason for multiple visits. Anywho, bitterballen was good. As per beer, my partner chose De Koninck Bolleke and I went for Sijf's Eigen. We both loved our own choices and couldn't agree on which was better! I loved Eigen's smell and the way the bitterness of the beer slowly became sweeter. Definitely going for more in coming days. De Koninck Bolleke has a 'jumping' feel to it. I could smell barley (hop, malt) and sensation of bubbles in your tongue like when we drink soda was refreshing. But I still preferred Eigen. Recommended! (You might have to wait a little longer for the service, though!)

Definitely my favorite burger joint in Rotterdam. I've tried…read moreseveral of the burgers on offer ( the burger club, the burger club special, hapsburger and the chicken) and they were all lovely. My new favorite is the burger au poivre, it may be the best burger I've ever had and I live in the USA. Add some fries and a beer, the perfect meal! The owners are delightful. Highly recommended.

Last Friday, me and a couple of likeminded burger fans decided to try this relatively young establishment. We arrive at peak hour and the restaurant is in full swing. We take our seats and enjoy the bustle that is so clearly visible through the open kitchen: a well-oiled, three man machine producing fine looking burgers one after another. After placing our orders we enjoy two more rounds of beer; the waiting takes a little longer than we had expected, but then again, Friday evening most places are quite busy, and thus a bit slower. The restaurant's namesake burger "The Burger Club" is, like all other burgers here, served on a rustic wooden kitchen board. Unlike other burger places, this burger isn't served paper wrapped or with a skewer through it - it's neat and can stand upright without support. This place focuses on the meat. You can choose from either local MRIJ beef, Iberico pork or (American) Wagyu beef. Personally I think using Wagyu for a burger is just a waste, so I decide on the local beef. And although I'm not a big fan of cooking burgers on a griddle, chef Luis certainly managed to pull it off: the burger I'm served is medium rare and the patty is nice and thick. My group consists of not the smallest guys, and we realize that we're not completely satisfied and saturated: though the burgers were of great quality, it lacked a little in size. We decide on getting two servings of sliders - 2 x 3 tiny burgers of the three different types of meat - to share among the five of us. The tiny version of the Iberico burger is a nice ending to my dinner, and it's a great way to get to try the other meats as well. Although the initial order took a bit longer to get served than usual, the service was great. Hostess Nanet walks around in comfortable clothes, no stiff suit, and that is also what she's trying to reflect in the service: be comfortable and enjoy. The only downside was the size of the burgers, although I'm sure some people were very comfortable with it. I'll definitely visit again soon.
