I'm extremely disappointed with the quality of both the product and the customer service at Metropolitan Flower Exchange in Paramus. I picked up two dozen long-stem red roses for Valentine's Day for my wife and spent nearly $200. In less than two days, the roses began to wilt. For flowers at this price point, that is completely unacceptable. I called and spoke with a manager to address the issue and was told that I would need to bring the flowers back to the store myself in order to have them swapped out. When I explained that this exact situation has happened before--and that on a previous occasion the store delivered replacement flowers and picked up the old ones--I was bluntly told there was "no way" to do that. So not only am I stuck with roses that likely won't last a week, but I was also offered no flexibility, no accountability, and no real customer service. The response felt dismissive and indifferent, especially considering the amount of money spent and the occasion. I've shopped here in the past for houseplants, outdoor plants, and flowers, but this experience has completely changed my view of this business. Based on the quality and how this was handled, I now understand why this location has a 3-star rating. I will not be shopping here again. read more

Very disappointed. Been using these guys for years. They always called before an event for which I ordered flowers in the previous year to remind me. They were also very helpful and efficient taking the orders. This year, nobody called, and when I called, I had to hold on for a long time until someone answered. The person who finally answered was ditzy and disengaged, so it took a long time to place the order. This company has moved and merged, and it is clear to me that they no longer care about service and no longer value my business.. will find someone else next time. read more

What a well stocked and beautiful nursery. Bought plants for my mother's funeral last year and here I go buying a rose for her niche and plant for her bedroom. The gift of life right? I walked in and told the florist what I needed and she knew exactly what I wanted. Picked a raspberry rose - red is cliche and my mother love / hated my strong desire to be different. Also wanted to buy her a 1 year passing gift so I asked for help again and another florist knew what I wanted. She recommended a rather nice and young snake plant (trash name but whatever). Then upon seeing pots I bought her a nice cream with gold accents pot with a weathered / antique look. It had a look my mom would have appreciated and that is all that mattered. now it is not the cheapest place but the plants and flowers are healthy and high quality. Plus, it was for my mom and she has a front row niche so just masking tape a plain rose to her glass was not an option. The pot and snake plant were beautiful and going to a Home Depot for that would not have sat well. So for me, the value is there along with the service. I've been coming to this place for about 10 years. They always have a very large selection of small annuals in the spring. The prices are decent and I am able to decorate my front yard with large array of different color flowers. although small when first purchased they are good quality that they take easily when potted. I usually come for the annuals around early May. They last me all the way till November when frost kills them. In some cases they have even returned the next year. I guess from the seeds left behind in the flower beds. It's pretty cool considering they are suppose to die off. I usually have about 10% return next spring. It's not much but it's still something considering they are one season. Inside they also have a large selection of beautiful exotic plants and flowers like bird of paradise. The prices are not bad either. I've purchased them online for a gift once and ended up paying an arm and a leg. This place is much cheaper and their plants/flowers are strong and hearty. As the season ends they often have blow out sales at deep discounts to get rid of plants that are going to be left over. They have a large wrap around parking area. This place is always busy when I have stopped by. They have plenty of staff around and they are very helpful and courteous. Many times they have carried my plants to my car. read more

Always love stopping by this store and talking to Rosa. She helps me pick up the best indoor plants and educates new everytime on how to take care of them. So far her advice on any plant has been spot on and have never regretted talking with her. It's even worth to just visit the store even if you don't plan on buying anything. For me the place in itself filled with plants gives me so much joy and positivity. During summer they have a huge collection for outdoor plants at the back of the store. This place has so much to offer at anytime during the year. They have some artificial plants and other decor items in the store which is a lil expensive but amazing! Also no fee for looking at beauty right?! I visit this store almost every 3 months to get new plant babies for my home! Ofcourse not killing the ones already bought. Lol. read more

My daughter called me at the last minute asking me to grab a bouquet of flowers for her cheer coach. I've always passed by this place on my way to work so coming here was a no brainer. I walked in, was greeted and directed where to go. The young lady asked me what I wanted (I didn't know, I asked her to be creative), what was my budget ($25) and made me the most beautiful bouquet in my price range. The gentleman behind the counter helped me find some supporting spikes for my plant at home and also suggested additional plants that I can add to my window shelf. I am plant lover with over 300 pots at home. I just find out all plants from Metropolitan coming with insects. All plants from them in 2-3 months have insects. I purchased plants from different places and only from Metropolitan have problems. I have 2 big birds of paradise in the same room. 1 from them and 1 from Lowe's. Guess what... one from Metropolitan have insects all the time ... I am sick of it... No more business from me!!!! read more

If you're in need for flowers quickly and don't care much about service and affordability then Metropolitan and Flower Exchange is the place. The place is overly priced and the quality of their flowers and roses are sub-par at best. There are plenty of mom and pop shops that offer better deals and a higher quality product. I recently came here for a dozen roses and by the 2nd day the roses already started dying and changing colors. Very upsetting in a sense that my wife didn't really get to enjoy the roses enough since we were away over the weekend. The staff that handles all of the flower arrangements are nice, but they are a bit on the stingy side with the babys breath and all the other things that come with the flower arrangements. Definitely will be planning accordingly next time so I can stray away from Metropolitan and Flower Exchange. read more

Worst place ever! DONT EVEN WASTE YOUR TIME! I went in and asked for help and wanted to purchase flowers for centerpieces. A young blonde who couldn't be bothered told me she couldn't sell me the flowers I wanted bc they were "low" on them , she then told me she couldn't even sell me ONE yet they were still out on display to be purchased. I asked nicely if she thought Home Depot might carry them and she said "idk I don't work there" with an attitude. I'm surprised she's even employable bc by the looks of her and her attitude , she doesn't care about herself or the job. This place is awful. I'll never give them my business again. First off, their service sucks. No-one smiles or offers their assistance. They stand at the register and look at you as if you're asking for another favor. 3 years in a row I purchase plants from them and other garden centers; and 98% of the plants I've purchased from Metro have died from root rot after a week of purchasing them! Which leads me to believe that they just water the heck out of them not caring what type of plant they are. OK, so I did notice some people did not smile, until I talked to them. The girl working in the floral section was extremely RUDE and cold. If I could give ZERO stars, I would. First time I went (should've been the last) I approached the counter with a plant in hand. The man at the register was arguing with some poor woman who was a customer trying to find out where her flower delivery was. When I got up to the counter, the guy could not have been more rude. I chalked it up to the fact that he was or doing with the customer before me, however, being in customer service myself, the customer is always right. Being a glutton for punishment, I stopped in again about two months later and had the displeasure of being "served" by the same surly, rude gentleman at the counter. He treats all of his customers as if they are intruding on his day and as if he's doing us some favor. Never says thank you, and if you have a question about a plant, he barely takes the time to answer and you get the feeling that he really knows absolutely nothing. The $100 "designer's choice" arrangement is consistently beautiful and lush - you can even make special requests such as color palette and flower preferences. Not sure why there are so many nasty reviews. Was in there for over an hour just in awe of all their stock. They had tons of houseplants of all sizes, and the prices were fair. Their planters & pots where a bit overpriced to me. They had beginner plants, succulents, large plants, and even trees. They also have soils & add-ons. The man working behind the counter was very kind and helpful. All of the plants appeared healthy. I like to look at the plants roots PRIOR to buying, which includes me taking them out of the nursery pot (to see if there are bugs, root rot, etc) and no one gave me an issue (like they do at Lowe's). There were some gnats around (which is inevitable with nurseries) but all plants seemed healthy - just check & do your research about plants before buying! They aren't always as simple as throwing them in some dirt! Will be back! read more

Service is always bad here. Advice doesn't seem to be one of the strong points. It's like pulling teeth to find out what I'm buying and how it will do. You're a plant store you should know your product better. People don't seem to want to help. The one time I had an issue with a purchase it was a nightmare to get them to fix it and it was their fault. Been here a couple dozen times and this past week came in for my garden stuff for the summer. Just realized why am I giving this place money so often when I don't like it. I have two plants from IKEA and one that a friend gave me and both are doing great despite similar care instructions. My husband ordered Calla lilies for our anniversary. He was very specific: CALLA LILIES. They're "our flower" and that's what he sends ... ALWAYS. I received a mixed flower arrangement. Nice enough flowers but mostly carnations, snap dragons and tulips. When he called to say they'd sent the wrong arrangement, they said "Our website says we have the right to substitute." Really??? When someone orders a specific flower they can substitute? They refused to exchange the arrangement and refused to credit our charge card. I have no experience dealing with the florist part of the business, but the indoor and outdoor plants I've bought there over the years have done well. The prices are usually average for the area. But there is a 40% off Fourth of July sale where plants can be bought for very cheap. I'm only taking a star off because they have occasionally carried sick goldfish and sold bettas in vases, which are not a proper home for them. read more
