Van Houten is a nice family owned garden center on Rockland. They are generally pricier than the…read morebig big stores and even your local grocery stores when they care seasonal items. But, you'll likely walk around and find specimens that wow you enough to pay a bit more for them. I bought a mandevilla, some annuals, veggies and herbs on my last visit. And, I've probably bought stuff here twice per year, every year, for the last 20 years. Sign up for their mailing list and you'll get coupons in Spring and Fall. If you want something for your yard, they likely have it. If you don't see it or aren't sure, just ask. They sell shrubs, trees, veggies, herbs, annuals, perennials, mulch, topsoil, pots and planters and they even have chicken and duck eggs in refrigerators in the main building. Parking is a little funny here. I suggest going on weekdays or off hours. Otherwise, there's some right on the main road and the overflow is off the side street. Happy gardening - it's good for you!

I picked up two dozen long-stem red roses for Valentine's Day for my wife and spent nearly $200. In less than two days, the roses began to wilt. For flowers at this price point, that is completely unacceptable. I called and spoke with a manager to address the issue and was told that I would need to bring the flowers back to the store myself in order to have them swapped out. When I explained that this exact situation has happened before--and that on a previous occasion the store delivered replacement flowers and picked up the old ones--I was bluntly told there was "no way" to do that. So not only am I stuck with roses that likely won't last a week, but I was also offered no flexibility, no accountability, and no real customer service. The response felt dismissive and indifferent, especially considering the amount of money spent and the occasion. I've shopped here in the past for houseplants, outdoor plants, and flowers, but this experience has completely changed my view of this business. Based on the quality and how this was handled, I now understand why this location has a 3-star rating. I will not be shopping here again.

"My zucchini flowered last year but didn't produce fruit, why?" They always have the answer. On my recent visit they had 6 different varities of cherry tomatoes (my favorite being Sweet Baby Girl which is impossible to find anywhere else) 5 different varieties of cucumbers, maybe 15 different varieties of tomatoes..........you get the idea. Everything grown in their greenhouse on the premises. The flowers are beautiful, healthy and they have many hard to find, unique varieties and colors. They are in no way hard sell or pushy, simply helpful! The prices are VERY REASONABLE on annuals, perennials, hanging plants, herbs, vegetables, and all of your gardening needs. RIght across the street from the Delta gas station. Doesn't look like much from the street but park your car and wander to the back............you will be surprised at the little wonderland of plants that is not visible from the road.
