If I could give this doctor negative stars I would. He performed a double jaw surgery on me 10…read moreyears ago and completely destroyed my skull. Initially he had convinced myself and my parents that it would be life threatening for me to not undergo this very costly surgery, insisting my jaw would lock shut in the next few years and I would never eat again and struggle with breathing for the rest of my life. This was a lie. On the day of my surgery I was forced to consent to all listed procedures or my entire surgery would be cancelled, so when I saw 'chin augmentation' listed without ever having spoken to me or discussed desired outcomes regarding my chin shape I was concerned but given no choice other than to consent or abandon my surgical date which I had scheduled over a year in advance to align with my school schedule. When I asked for explanation as to what this chin augmentation entailed, I was assured that it was just a formality 'in case' he had to shave down or reshape my chin after repositioning my jaws. I should have abandoned the surgery altogether at this point but I unfortunately trusted the doctor and signed the form. The second I woke up from surgery I knew something was horribly wrong. There was a hole in the roof of my mouth that connected to my sinuses, there was no second surgical site for bone grafts to have been taken for the upper jaw expansion, I was bleeding profusely, and the nurses were so incompetent that one held a tissue to my nose, pinching my bleeding nose shut and telling me to blow when I had already been told I could not do this for several weeks after surgery. As my lungs were empty and I could not breath through my mouth, I could not blow, or BREATHE and had to fight this nurse off of me as I turned blue because she would not let go. My mother finally entered the room screaming and this nurse was removed from my face. I informed the medical team immediately of the hole in the roof of my mouth preventing me from being able to form suction with my mouth so I could not use the straws they were providing for liquid nutrition or hydration limiting me to syringe feeding for the entire healing period. I was told that the hole didn't exist, it was all in my head, and that the surgery had gone perfectly. This was just the start of my nightmare. I was released from the hospital after two days still unable to properly breathe or eat/drink as the I could not create any suction, the swelling was immense, and involved my sinuses as the doctor had fully ripped the roof of my mouth in half and was denying it. Within hours of arriving home the swelling had increased so much I again could not breathe, was turning blue, and had to be rushed back to the hospital. The next three weeks consisted of struggling to consume enough liquids with a syringe, and follow up appointments with my jaw still banded shut with a plastic plate between my teeth blocking the doctor from actually seeing the hole he was still denying existed. At the three week appointment he finally removed the bands, removed the plastic plate, and was 'shocked' to find the hole I had been describing to him in writing since minutes after waking up from surgery. This hole was left to fester, insisting it would close on its own for another 3 months before dr tocchio finally closed the hole one week before he knew I had a flight returning to school. This repair failed, and I was now abroad with a festering wound. The lack of bone grafts was also becoming evident as the upper jaw was not healing and was starting to move on its own with 'nonunion fractures'. I was forced to have two procedures abroad, where Dr Tocchio advised a local maxilliofacial surgeon on how to proceed with me, to remove rejecting hardware as titanium foil and screws/plates were protruding through my gums. When I returned to Toronto I saw Dr Tocchio again, who did another procedure to attempt the bone grafts he negligently skipped in favour of poorly installing a chin implant I never wanted over a year after my initial surgery. Again, in hindsight I should have found another surgeon before proceeding but dr Tocchio had overseen everything so far and was insisting it was my fault in aftercare that all these things were going wrong. I BEGGED him to take the bone grafts from my hip or ribs as my jaw was already so badly damaged and he insisted he would. When I woke up from this next procedure with no surgical sites outside of my mouth, I was livid. He had chosen to take the grafts from the tip of my jaw joint, exactly where I had begged him not to. This procedure healed poorly, still left movement in the breaks in my upper jaw, and left me so mangled there was no more solid bone left for future surgeons to attempt any further fixes. My upper jaw was now at its final state- with blocks of teeth wiggling in line with where the breaks in my jaw were. 10 years later I am still in daily pain, have attempted to end my life, have screws protruding, and 100k surgical debt.

He insisted on fixing a gummy smile that I didn't have. I told him I wasn't concerned with it and didn't think it was a gummy smile. He removed 4mm of bone from my upper jaw and now my top teeth are always hidden behind my upper lip. He also insisted on performing a sliding genioplasty because it was "cosmetically necessary" to lengthen the chin once the lower jaw was pushed back. I expressed multiple times that I did not want any work done to my chin. Now it protrudes even more than it did when I had the underbite. To top it off, I have permanent numbness on half of my lower face, and one tooth that has been a deep grey colour since. The numbness was a risk I was aware of going into the surgery, but coupled with everything else is inexcusable to me. I do not have the money for cosmetic surgeries to fix all of Dr. Tocchio's mistakes. The most I can do now is advise anyone else who might be considering this doctor to look elsewhere.

While removing one tooth, he destroyed two more adjacent teeth. When leaving his office, I was given the statement. Later on when I was back to my normal state of mind, I looked into the statement. The amount charged to my credit card was different from what I paid before the procedure. This second payment was charged without my authorization. The amount for bone regeneration increased from $820 to $ 1050. Also, the statement showed another "bone regeneration" the Dr. Yarmand claimed has been done, although there were no cuts, stitches or threads in that place of my mouth. To extract destroyed teeth and complete the project, I went to another surgeon. Unlike Dr. Yarmand, this other Doctor performed all procedures under local anesthesia as I requested. He did not request a one-thousand- dollar deposit before the procedure. Payments were taken only upon the completion of each procedure. For each procedure, he charged amounts the same as on the estimates. Every time, my credit card was charged in front of me. The price for each implant was 20% lower than with Mr. Yarmand. To follow-up on the second version of Dr. Yarmand response. 1. Dr. Yarmand declined my specific request for local anaesthesia in favour of IV ($680+$60). Regarding, "IV sedation comfort", the nurse tried to insert a needle into my vein 3 times. Then, she called for help another nurse who was able to get into my vein on her 2nd attempt. 2. According to the 1-st payment receipt, my credit card was charged at 9:18 a.m. in front of me before the procedure. According to the 2nd payment receipt, my credit card was charged 2nd time with different amount (to replace the 1st charge) at 12:16 p.m. without my knowledge while I was still in the operating area. According to the wall clock in the operating area, I left this area at 12:22 p.m.( 6 min after my card was charged). 3. When I asked Dr. Yarmand about my destroyed teeth he did not apologize, did not express regret about the damage he did to me. I was in shock. I couldn't discuss anything with him anymore. To replace destroyed teeth with implants, I paid $10K to another surgeon.

So you can imagine how I was dreading my visit to the oral surgeon. Thank goodness for Dr. Moncarz and the rest of the staff here. They were amazing. Friendly. Patient. Funny. Thorough. Dr. Moncarz himself was funny, friendly, and took the time to explain things to me in as much depth as I wanted. I was greatly reassured by the time I left my consultation appointment and arrived for my surgery feeling only minimally nervous. I was seen exactly on time for all of my appointments and everything seemed quite efficient while I was being seen. The staff were willing to work with me to book appointments around my crazy schedule. Dr Moncarz made sure I was armed with enough medications to deal with the pain I'd have after having four wisdom teeth (two impacted) removed under general anesthetic. He also reviewed the post-op instructions me with as well as providing a detailed handout that I could read again later. I even received a call from the office the day after my surgery checking in to see how things were going and address any questions. One star off because the clinic is a bit cluttered and the kind of dirty that happens when a place has been open for years and years. I have no concerns about safety (and I'm a nurse - I feel like I'm a pretty good judge of cleanliness and sterility), but the appearance of the place could have been more reassuring. That said, I was thrilled with the whole team and everything went as well as can be expected when you're having teeth yanked out of your head. I'd definitely recommend Dr. Moncarz should you ever be in need of similar services.

I was treated with so much care from Dr Ebrahimi to all the Ladies(staff) who always had a smile & kind words to make me feel more comfortable I was put to sleep due to some health issues & before I knew it...it was all over. The procedure took about 1/2hr & I was home relaxing & recovering within an hr. I had pain for the first day (which the Dr.warned me about) & it seemed to slow down by the next few days. I had a post op" appointment the following week & Dr Ebrahimi said everything looks great the gums are healing well. I have to say that this dentist office is so wonderful. I have been to the Danforth dentist office to & they are all amazing there to. I can't stop saying such nice things about this place. Your in good hands when you come here. Works out well, really. I can assess the longer term outcomes! I ended up with Dr Rittenberg after the oral surgeon I had been seeing packed up and left for Barrie. He was handsome, but my love for him had faded quite a bit-he didn't really indulge my (slightly obsessive) need to know all the details of my treatment-so I was less devastated than you'd think to end up switching oral surgeons midway through my course of treatment. I was pretty apprehensive at the first meeting, however. I felt like I'd been left in the lurch by the previous guy and that I really hadn't been given as much information as I'd like. Five minutes after meeting Dr R, I knew I was going to be happy. He pandered to my curious nature, answered all my questions and wasn't remotely condescending. I felt like I was participating in my treatment plan. Just like with my regular dentist! He was very thorough and very personable-including actually sitting down to speak to me instead of rushing through the consultation. The actual procedure was a breeze. I'd had something similar done before and it was long and tedious. In Dr R's hands it was short and ridiculously easy. I've had more traumatic cleanings. He has the air of someone who has done all of this a million times before. And I'm pretty sure he has! Follow-up was also good and there were no surprises with billing. The work has stood the test of time and I've had zero problems since then. I've recommended him to a colleague who was also very happy and thought the procedure was effortless too. It's worth noting that the nurses in the department have great faith in him. ALWAYS trust the nurses. They know what's what. Failing that, trust me: someone who has a mouth full of dental work.
