We had arranged a move with Metropolitan Movers for a small move from one house to another that was four doors away. They confirmed by phone the week before, and again the day before. On the day of the move, they called to say they would be two hours late. Then they called half an hour later to say they THEY WERE NOT COMING AT ALL.
Seriously?
I have to move out of the house because it was sold and the next people were moving in.
They say their truck broke down.
I asked if they could rent a truck? "No."
I asked if they could arrange other movers. "No - the one guy they knew could move us in three weeks. And they did not know any other movers"
Well geez - I don't know any other movers either.
I asked what they could do for me - their answer "there's nothing we can do. It's not our fault - the truck broke down. I'm going to hang up now".
Worst customer service ever.
Luckily we were able to scramble and find another mover to move us the next day - AMJ Campbell. Great move with them, at only a little bit more
So the lesson on Metropolitan for me is
1) if all their equipment works perfectly, then you might be able to move. I cannot comment on the professionalism of the actual people who show up at your house... because no one actually ever showed up at our house.
2) If there are any problems, then you're screwed. and they are no help whatsover.
3) I cannot recommend them at all. Ask yourself what trouble you would be in if they didn't show up on your moving day... and then pick someone else. As I mentioned, we had a good move with AMJ Campbell.
I have contacted them a number of times asking for reimbursement of the few hundred dollars extra that it cost to move with the other mover - which is less than $200. Of course, they have not responded at all. read more
