Because the auction would not be until 2/5/2026 we held on to the painting until closer to that date. My elderly parents were called 20 minutes before the auction and were pressured to put a reserve of $12,000 on the painting. My parents did not want a reserve so Sotheby's started the bid at $1! The auction closed out at less than $2,000 and by the time shipping and fees were taken out it was to leave my parents with proceeds of less than $500. They had my parents send their bank account information 3 times which I did not feel comfortable with. I had called numerous times only to be told that they are waiting on the buyer to pay. For $2,000? This is sothebys right? So back and forth being told today is the day you will receive your deposit. Well nothing has arrived as of 4/22/2026. This whole experience feels like a scam. This is not about a disgruntled seller being unhappy with the dollar amount. It is about the unethical practices that are being conducted by this renowned business. ****Edit..... after many phone calls asking where the laughable proceeds were and given excuse after excuse. I informed them that if the proceeds were not deposited within 24 hrs I would be securing legal counsel. Well lo and behold it showed up less than 24 hrs later. All I can say is fool me once.... Stay far away from this business and the unethical practices they pull on their co-signers. They will pretty much steal your consignment and make you fight for the measly proceeds....****

To wrap up this review, I ended up taking my grandfather to a competitor. They were more than happy to provide a Spanish-speaking employee, who patiently guided him and explained the value of each coin. My grandfather was very happy with their service and knowledge and ended up selling his entire collection for a pretty good penny. I don't know about you, but that sounds like your loss to me. The shifting explanation was misleading and gave the impression that the story was being adjusted after the fact to make the situation more palatable This undermines the fundamental premise of an auction- fair and open competition. Pulling a lot midstream and moving it elsewhere, combined with inconsistent explanations, suggests a lack of transparency at best. At a minimum, I would have expected a straightforward explanation and the courtesy of being informed, especially after expressing direct interest. Instead, the experience felt opaque and dismissive. If you're considering working with this auction house, be aware that listed inventory may not actually be available for bidding- even if you've already engaged. That's not a standard I would expect from a reputable auction platform.

Curious about the process, I asked a million questions to make sure that I understood all the loopholes associated with consigning. Heather and Gideon were great and patient with answering my questions and successfully convinced me to commit to selling my bag. I was visibly anxious but decided to go for it, having been told that I am able to pay a pulling fee of 10% the asking price of my bag, if for some reason I decide I wanted to keep it. Immediately when I got home, I regretted my decision and reached out to Gideon about paying the fee to get my bag back. He called me and tried to convince me to let them sell it, and bantered about how he had already added it to a list to sell at an event over the weekend and that I would have to pay more to make up for the costs were incurred for the update to the list. I looked over my BS of a "contract" which stipulated that I would be responsible for 10% (as he had also verbally stated.) When I called him again, he told me I would have to pay 10% + 15% to make up for THEIR agreement that they made with the vendor 30 mins after I left (aka this agreement probably doesn't exist.) . While I had been timid this entire process (total of 3 hours), I stood my ground and demanded that we stick to the original contract. All in all, what started out as friendly, informative service turned into a sketchy/unprofessional/unethical business. I may at first had cold feet about parting with my bag, but as soon as I felt jipped by some scheme to make easy profit off my bag... Nah fammmm - I'm keeping my baby. But a contract is a contract, so I held up my end of the bargain. They gave me a 1 hour window to get my bag immediately, to honor the 10% that was on my original contract... Absolutely ridiculous experience. I suggest coming here if you are desperate to be cheated out of your money. *** Let me make it clear, I upheld their policy and hence paid them the $120 promised by the contract I signed. This review is simply a comment to the sketchiness of TSDC's business in trying to alter that contract last-minute to make more money off of me. It is not my responsibility if the business is "disappointed" in not being given the opportunity to sell MY bag. My problem is that TSDC made it very difficult for me to take my bag back by making up excuses as to why I can't take it back, and adding an extra charges.
