Review Visit: March 11th, 2015…read more Thankfully they don't sell defective Acme comics.... wait, that sounds familiar. Yep, another Acme Comics post for my blog. This one is fortunately still open and is no way related to the Acme Comics in Normal, IL (which has closed recently). I am bias towards this store as I have been here many times. This store is my first place to scope out used video games. They don't have a large selection of current generation stuff, but they do have a lot of 'retro' games. Think NES, SNES, N64, PS2, Gameboy and the like. Everything is moderately priced, if not sometimes lower/higher than market value. But it's a locally owned business, so I don't mind paying a few more dollars to support a great shop. Since their inventory shifts, there is usually always something new to see when I go in. Lately, I have been getting old GamePro, Nintendo Power, Tips & Tricks magazines for $2 a piece. Talk about a nostalgic trip. They offer a large selection of CDs but they seem to be shying away from those in the more recent years. I believe they also do have vinyl and music dvds as well. I used to purchase a large amount of cds back in the day when they had 4/$10. Still reaping the benefits of that today with a massive music collection. Moving on, this place is a Comic shop first and foremost. While they do sell other things, obviously, I am betting the comic book scene is the bulk of their customers. One of my friends alone has a massive pull list there. I don't know much about comics, but they offer a wall of new arrivals as well as your $0.50 comics. The staff can be a bit inattentive at times, but they never seem bothered when you ask them for help. All in all, a pretty great local shop.

It's pretty small inside also, but it's got a decent variety of things to look at. You might find something you like but be prepared to pay top dollar for it. Perhaps the only deal you will find here are some Pops on sale. As the 1st OFFICIAL reviewer I'm giving it an extra star to start off good. They need to make some changes here mostly around prices to truly be a 4 star place

I have had a blast bringing my friends along and they love the store too! The prices are very fair, most prices even being at retail! He's even got some fun promos going on from time to time, which was a blast to bring my friends along for as well. I will say, I got a kick out of the owner watching me and a buddy play this old Micheal Jackson arcade game when we came one time. Pretty sure he got a kick out of the sounds it played anytime we started a level haha Overall, I'd say it's a 10/10 store. If you're looking for good collectibles and comics for a great price, this is the spot. Check them out!

Review Visit: January 16th, 2016…read more Let's make the Magic happen! Oh... you played a counter spell I will preface this with a warning that I am a bit bias towards The Zone. I partake in Magic pre-releases here. I have been coming here for a long time, actually. Back when I first got into Magic and his store was located in Creve Coeur, IL. Moving on. The Zone offers a wide variety of products. From comics, posters, figures/toys, trading cards (singles and sealed), Ultra Pro products, sleeves, and other odds/ends. I have played 3 Magic pre-releases there (so far) and the store owner, Scott, has been great at hosting it each time. He even helped me set up my DCI account right before the pre-release tournament was about to start. You can pretty much throw any random question at Scott and he will have some knowledge about it and can help you out. Overall, a great store to visit if you need your Magic/comics/toys fix. Plus, Maurie's Candies is right across the street! :3

They run a constant stream of TCG - Trading Card Games and while some of the players play in offical tournaments, you can still have lots of fun and the other players don't mind helping you and answering questions to help improve your game play and deck (but you may have to wait until the game ends!) D&D organized play goes on during the week and some weekends and amazingly is still FREE, even though the store is providing you with the space to play. The only reason I give them 4 stars is because I wish they would have a larger inventory of Role Playing Games (like D&D) but until more people are buying these products I understand that they cannot increase their inventory. Some of the Products sold: 1. D&D, Burning Wheel, Traveller, GammaWorld, Pathfinder, 2. Specialized board games that you cannot find in normal stores 3. TCG, Magic, Yu-Gi-Oh!, EDH/Commander, Pokemon, 4. Miniatures: Warhammer 40K, Star Wars: X-Wing, Infinity, Mars Attacks, Relic Knights, Imperial Assault 5. Comic Books 6. Dice, some miniatures for D&D and RPG's. and much, much more! Best of all, when the original store was going to close and there were no other gaming stores within 20 miles, Bear purchased the store, kept it open and gave us all a place to play for 5 years and running now. That alone causes me to be a loyal NGiT follower! Also, I help run the D&D Encounters and D&D Expeditions games at the store.

These guys had prints that I haven't been able to locate at other shops, and everything was extremely well organized. Books were in great condition, and the staff were so kind and helpful. Very much a "reader's" comic shop, but they have tables set up for your D&D game or Magic or really whatever your fancy is. Best of all, the prices are fair, and you'd be hard pressed to find a better value in the area. I'll definitely be back. I would die for more time to dig through their back issues.

First, their store credit policy makes no sense: you can't use it on "premium" items, which defeats the purpose of having store credit at all. On top of that, when I sold them some premium Magic: The Gathering cards, the prices I was given were for the wrong versions. Because I had my three kids with me at the time, I didn't notice until later, but it felt dishonest and not worth the argument. What bothered me most, though, was how they treated me as a newer customer. I stood waiting for about 15 minutes with my kids while staff ignored me to casually chat and eat with tournament patrons who weren't even doing business at the time. They had recognized me, but still dismissed me while I was clearly trying to complete a transaction. It made me feel like my time -- and my business -- weren't valued. Most of the staff were nice, but the older bald gentleman was rude and dismissive, which really stood out. Between the poor credit rules, the card pricing issue, and the way I was treated as a customer, I can't recommend Thunder Comics. If they want to encourage more sales and playtime in their store, they should focus more on being fair, welcoming, and attentive -- especially to new customers
