This place, aka Essen Urgent Care, is the worst. The ONLY good thing about it is its location--it's…read moreconvenient! Maybe they'll have one doctor there. Or maybe the doctor is returning calls/relaying test results while patients wait to see the doctor. There are no nurses. No np's, no PA's. Only one or two med techs who check your vitals and administer Covid, flu, etc tests. If you come on a day that there is no doctor or other clinician, you're out of luck. I only go there for Covid, etc testing. That done, I've called for results but there is no one qualified to give you verbal results. The law says only a doc, nurse or other clinician can give you results. They can fax it to you but then again, only a clinician can do that. I've waited days for answers. They have a portal app but no one is at the other end to give you the text verification "code" and it's not automated! Once I came in for a urine culture. I knew I had an infection. I gave a sample and put it in a box in the wall where I was told to put it. Hours later I got a call asking me where I left the sample, and was told they couldn't find it. I told them it was right where the doctor told me to put it. Frustrating? yes Then they couldn't tell me the result because there was no clinician there to tell me. I called 4 times before I could get the result and let my doctor (Cornell) know. This time I had a Covid test, strep and flu and RSV tests. I was told they would call me in 2 days. At 330 pm on the 2nd day I called. Same problem. No one there to give me the results. They said a doctor would call me at 4 pm. But it was already 43O pm! They then said 530 pm. It's now 7:15 pm and I received no call. At least the person on the phone was professional and lovely, but I still don't have my test results. The above are only a few of the poor experiences I've had at Essen or UriCare or whatever name they call themselves yesterday or tomorrow. The heck with convenience. From now on I'm going to city MD where there are clinicians and much better care and service. If they can't get these simple tasks done right, just imagine how bad Essen's medical care could be. Since they have also expanded next door into primary care, I fear worse for those who Also go there for convenience. It's not worth it and it could very well be a disaster.

I was seen by a physician who collected a urine sample, confirmed that I had a UTI, and prescribed medication. I had the prescription filled immediately and paid $48.50; I do not have prescription drug coverage. I took one pill when I got home and another around 11:00 p.m. I continued the same regimen on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday morning, for a total of seven doses. On Monday, 12/1, I received a call from the Customer After Care Center in the Philippines informing me that I had been prescribed the wrong medication. I was told that I would need to return to CitiMD for treatment. I explained that this would require another co-pay and another $48.50. I asked whether she could call my pharmacist with the correct prescription, but she said she could not. I asked her to refund me my original co-pay & the cost of the prescription. She laughed. I did not laugh. She insisted I contact CitiMD. I am deeply concerned that I took seven doses of the wrong medication before being notified of the error. I am also concerned that it took three and a half days to inform me that the prescription was incorrect. Given the seriousness of this situation, I believe the prescribing doctor should be held accountable. I suspect malpractice. When I contacted CitiMD, I was met with everything except kindness. Their priority was protecting the doctor -- a full-on cover your ass operation rather than addressing my concerns. The customer service was the worst I have ever experienced. I was hung up on three separate times and left on hold for two hours. They refused to let me speak with the attending physician on duty that day. Instead, they continued to point me in the direction of the Philippines Customer After Care Center even after I explained the Philippines wanted nothing to do with me. Since I could not get a call back, I decided to see my PCP to receive proper medical care. He was alarmed by what I had experienced. Given the circumstances outlined above, it is reasonable that I will not be paying the $31.65. I contacted Social Security, explaining that garnishing $31.65 from my check would only escalate the situation further.

Maternity: They calculated my due date about 15 days earlier and then told me they didn't have any availability, even when I told them my first child's due date was much later than the manual calculation. Billing: Separate instance, I was charged an extra amount on top of my insurance out-of-pocket maximum. I called their billing department, and the explanation was that it's "always the patient's responsibility to cover the NY surcharge tax." When I looked it up, it appeared that "insurance generally pays for the New York State Health Care Reform Act (HCRA) surcharges as part of the covered service cost." I contacted my insurance provider, and they confirmed the tax had already been included in the payment sent to the hospital over a month earlier. After I called back, they said the tax was applied automatically, but they checked again and confirmed my insurance had already paid more than the agreed amount, so they removed the tax. I can't imagine I'm the only person who's gone to the ER with insurance, and all patients may be automatically billed additional charges beyond their out-of-pocket maximum. For comparison, I've also been treated at NYU Langone Health and didn't encounter the same billing issue. Tip: Double-check your bill against your insurance EOB before paying.
